I actually think the pacing for these episodes aren't that slow! They are trying to establish characters plus give a little more character development to naruto and sakura who we have seen only a little bit of since the original Naruto series. We saw their skills in the last arc but i think we are getting a little bit more of their teenage personalities here. Edit: Just checked the anime as well. The sub correctly used wood style deep forest emergence, it was just the dub that called it secret earth jutsu: Deep Forest Creation.

I really don’t understand the constant hate for “you are my friend.” It’s basically the main purpose of the entire Sasuke rescue mission from Naruto’s perspective. It makes perfect sense to be in the op. Distance is at least a decent op imo. I’ve always enjoyed it.

It's always been my second least favorite of the series and one of the only ones I actively dislike. It feels like the song is practically the same from the first second to the last. It has a tiny bit of shape near the beginning then the rest of the song is almost a flat line.

In my experience most people like the repeated English phrase in that op and sing along. By my count, "You are my friend" is only used twice in "Distance" (plus one use of "Thank you my friend") and they're spaced out by over a minute. It's hard to see that as an overuse, even if you don't prefer the line itself since many ops have a chorus that repeats the same words at least twice.

@@Cowmoo83 Hm, you raise a good point. To me, the phrase "Fighting Dreamers" is balanced by the high energy, upbeat nature of the song. Normally I do dislike hearing too much "engrish", or accented english, but strangely, I do actually like that song despite that. Considering that Distance uses "You are my friend" only twice, I suppose it isn't because of the repetition, but rather the corniness of the phrase itself. Maybe one could argue that the "Fighting Dreamers" line is also corny, but it just doesn't feel that way to me because I feel that song is purposefully less serious in tone, and I don't hear any accent in it. It also doesn't help that the Normies are constantly singing it out to make fun of Distance, which I think is pretty funny, but makes me dislike the song slightly more.

Shizune’s literally been flapping in the wind trying to hang on throughout Tsunade’s reckless escapades before becoming Hokage, now is still her advisor despite never being listened to. As a viewer watching a show, we know Tsunade is a good character who knows what she’s doing and that Naruto will continue to get stronger, but what Shizune tried to do wasn’t unreasonable. With the Akatsuki nearly having captured Naruto years before near the Leaf Village and disabling one of the village’s top Jonin with just two members, then capturing the strongest person in the Sand Village in front of everybody. Fortifying against the Akatsuki is a reasonable move, just nobody realizes they wouldn’t have a chance with their current strength. Deidara is probably the most instantaneously dangerous to an urban area we’ve seen yet, but Sasori took down a Kingdom, Itachi eliminated one the Leaf Village’s strongest clans, and Kisame, previous member of the Legendary Seven Swordsmen of the Hidden Mist, is stated to have higher chakra levels than any of them. And that’s just the Akatsuki we know so far.

@@nashetania What does this episode have ANYTHING to do with what I said? I'm referring to the overall impact that Sai's character should have on both Naruto and Sakura. Both are chasing a guy who doesn't want to be with them. He has his own path to walk and they act as if he was kidnapped or something. Also, I said MOSTLY Sakura, because at least Naruto has a identifiable relationship between sasuke, where he himself referred to naruto as his best friend. Sakura's reasons seem purely selfish and childish. She needs someone to smack reality into her so she actually moves on and stops living in a fantasy where for some reason she believes that she and Sasuke are already a couple or something. So overall BOTH Naruto and Sakura are annoying and selfish in their pursuit of sasuke. However, Sakura is someone who I believe needs the biggest grasp of reality. Also, Sai was ONE HUNDRED PERCENT correct about Sasuke, but someone as thick headed sakura just doesn't want to hear it, which proves my point.

Your discussion about the transformation jutsu at the end made me realize that jutsu is more useful than I originally thought. When Gamabunta transformed as the nine tails, he was able to use his fake claws and tails to scratch and hurl trees at Shukaku. Imagine if you use the transformtion jutsu under water and transform into a fish, you can use your fake gils to breath.

It's probably because Yamato is clearly an important character and nearly every character of importance has lineage or heritage of established characters, on top of using the same jutsu. Considering how little we actually see that mask being used I think it's fair that they are assuming that mask is a family heirloom or clan style, even if it's wrong I don't think we need to throw them under the bus for that.

Team’s 7 obsession with Sasuke is honestly one of my least favorite things in this anime. Seriously, it never made sense to me, Sakura’s infatuation and Naruto’s protectiveness. Maybe all of the deadly missions helped them bond off scenes, because otherwise their friendship feels mostly artificial to me. It’s like something that the author tries to inform the viewers but not shown properly. Idk, unpopular opinion maybe?

No, I agree with you. The author is not very good at the concept, "show, don't tell." Infactuation with Sasuke, sure I guess because that is the most base and shallow level of love, but she says multiple times in the show that she is in love with Sasuke...and there is just so much wrong with that. We aren't given anything in the show that would suggest she has a reason to care for him, let alone fall for him. He either doesn't pay her any mind or he's downright rude to her. Also, the author has admitted that he's not good at writing female characters, and it's blatantly obvious because every female character, especially the younger female characters, whole motivation is an obsession over a guy. Tsunade and Temari are the only exceptions, which is why I like them way more.

When Sakura was a preteen, it would somewhat make sense for her to fall for him, as he's the cliche popular cool guy every girl has a crush on. But after everything that happens between them, makes 0 sense for her to still pine for him, he gave her 0 reasons for her to feed her feelings. Same for Naruto, the whole "rivals but actually care deeply for each other" thing doesn't stick that well imo, because it's all one sided. Well, Sasuke did save him once and deep deep down I think he appreciated that Naruto sincerely cares about him and that both of them understand each other at a deeper level, before he went rogue. But all the actual bonding between them was rarely, if ever, shown and that's just... not how irl friendships work. I think Sasuke is actually too damaged to care much for anyone except himself and his goal, so a better arc for him would've been if he got to learn to grow past his trauma and heal.

Naruto and sakura's obsession with sasuke is ridiculous. They've known sasuke as teammates for what a year? Shikamaru is better friend to naruto than sasuke ever was and for sakura to be this obsessed with someone who's only ever shown disdain towards her is insane.

Well considering like gaara sasuke is a mirror of what Naruto could have been. Also in Shippuden Naruto is way more obsessed with sasuke than Sakura is. Hell in this Arc when they meet orochimaru again Sakura isn't the one screaming give sasuke back like a jealous ex girlfriend, and lose control Making everything worst, it's Naruto. Also a year is long enough to get to know and understand someone.

I think the only problem with the pacing here is the setup: after spending an entire arc watching Naruto and Kakashi jump trees and Chiyo flashbacking (with maybe 2 episodes worth of screen time being on the actual fight you care about), they then hit us up with a tangible clue to Orochimaru and Sasuke, which carrys real narrative weight. So everyone gets real excited. At the same time, we're introduced to Sai and Yamato. Now I know looking back that Sai and Yamato are badass characters and I like Sai's story in particular, but at this point these characters are completely unknown. Compare that to finding out what's up with Sasuke and facing Orochimaru, which we have been teased with, and there's no comparison. So no matter how cool the characters Yamato and Sai are, it just feels like filler. It's more poor decision making when it comes to overall structure than the actual pacing episode to episode.
