The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Season 1 Episode 2, The Star Spangled Man - MCU on Disney Plus

Looks like Disney Plus has another hit on their hands: MCU Phase Four series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is only on its second episode but is already dishing out action, secrets, conflict, new super heroes, and big bad villains. In our review and recap of Episode 2, The Star Spangled Man, we're taking a closer look at Sam Wilson/Falcon's unique challenges as a Black super hero (Anthony Mackie), his fraught relationship with Bucky/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) now that mutual friend Steve Rogers is gone (?), and why they'd team up against anarchist group the Flag Smashers.
In this episode, Sam and Bucky repeatedly encounter John Walker, the new Captain America (and sidekick BattleStar!), who rubs them the wrong way, learn that the Flag Smashers have multiple super soldiers within their ranks, pay a visit to an Isaiah, an elderly Black super soldier that Bucky once knew, have a couple's counselling session that doesn't go very well, get their butts kicked by a girl, and refuse help from John Walker (Wyatt Russell), who's acting like he outranks them.

Keep your eye on Eli Bradley: in the comics, he goes on to become The Patriot in the Young Avengers.
The song playing for John Walker in the stadium is a marching band version of 'Star-Spangled Man" the song written by Alan Menken and David Zippel for Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), which was performed at Steve Rogers' USO tour during WWII.
The first appearance of Isaiah Bradley. In the comics, Isaiah was one of a group of African-American soldiers who were the first test subjects in attempts to recreate Project Rebirth that gave Steve Rogers his enhancements. Unfortunately, while Bradley's treatment appeared successful enough for him to emulate Captain America, he also suffered the usual failures to recreate Doctor Erskine's work and his mind was badly affected.
Bucky (Sebastian Stan) says he's called White Wolf. This is a nickname that was given him by local children while he was recuperating in Wakanda, as revealed in a Black Panther post-credit scene.
The Flag-Smashers flee to escape the minions of the Power Broker. In the comics, the Power Broker was a criminal business entrepreneur who clandestinely offered the service of a body-enhancement treatment that could give recipients super-strength, but at a hidden cost of a high-rate of serious adverse reactions that could lead to grotesque body distortions. One of the recipients was John Walker
