It genuinely sounded like a masterpiece of a season, but sadly Omniverse was cancelled and they had to end it on season 8

I really appreciate the addition of weaker/"useless" aliens to bens roster in this series, Asmuth made the Omnitrix as a way for all life to understand each other, and surely not *every* alien in the universe is a super cool action guy, some are simply "the worst," and I really appreciate a more realistic and rounded out arsenal of not just powerful aliens but aliens that are just regular dudes.

Yeah so do I. Really emphasizes this thing about Ben using a storing device as a weapon. Of course I'd rather want to see Four Arms or Big Chill than Walkatrout or Molestache but it makes all the sense that among 10.000 aliens you have many who are even weaker than a human.

The writer made the reboot for young kids, and I was devastated when I found out wildmutt doesn’t exist any more. And wild vine has two legs instead of his four plant like appendages, and they put spikes on literally almost every character.

It's also weird how they're all humanoid. There's practically no variety anymore. Ben used to have aliens with different body types that actually made them look alien. In the reboot, they took one look at stinkfly and said "You know what would be good? Making him a bipedal knock off version of big chill"

The humanoid thing actually plays into why Wildmutt wasn’t included. Man of Action has said that the CN higher ups basically said to make the aliens all bipedal and more humanoid, and said that they would allow Wildmutt if he was made bipedal like how they did Stinkfly. Given that Wildmutt’s entire concept hinges on him literally being a quadrupedal dog alien, MoA scrapped the use of Wildmutt for the series, though a Vulpimancer prisoner did show up in the Null Void along with an Ectonurite, Opticoid, Pisciss Volann, and a Loboan (ie Ghostfreak, Eye Guy, Ripjaws, and Blitzwolfer) in Ben 10 vs The Universe, so we did at least get that.

Yeah, while watching this video essay series I interpreted it as the form of Ben which is technically still older than in the OG series, but he has had experiences that really reality-checked him into realizing he still needs to mature more, so he's displayed in a more youthful-looking style. But this might also not have been done on purpose by the artists, directors, etc.

This video really gave me more love for Omniverse. I was one of the fans who weren't too keen on Omniverse's art style but over the years I've come to enjoy and appreciate it's existence in the original continuity. I personally would love an HBO MAX series doing an episodic space roadtrip continuation of Omniverse that Ben teased at the end. It was also rumored to happen before Omniverse was wrapped up. I fell off after Omniverse because I aged out of the demographic but I rewatched the entire classic saga sometime ago and was surprised at how well it holds up. Omniverse has my favorite art style out of all the shows but the original is the best one overall to me. I’ve always been a huge sci-fi fan so this franchise found me at the perfect time and had a massive influence on my development and I don’t think I’ll ever truly stop loving it.

Omniverse season 9 wasn't disgarded because of the reboot decision. It was most likely because omniverse was losing its funding due to the decline of toy sales, and then gave up and burned of the final three seasons at 6am time slots with no advertising. Purposely giving the show bad ratings.(they didn't even post them on their website at that time either). That's most likely why they made a reboot for the series. If it wasn't for cartoon network basiclally sweeping Ben 10 underneath the carpet all that time, We may have actually had that 9th season.

I love how they didn’t definitively choose a prime Ben or timeline like most multiverses end up having. It really makes the art style changes and voice actor changes all feel more natural and make sense. And they perfectly filled in the holes of the lore throughout the series, having this perfect balance of continuity and change.

Omniverse is one of my favorite series within the Ben 10 franchise. I was admittedly taken back at first when seeing the art style, but after I quickly realized who the artist was behind it, I was more than ready for it. Rook as a new character was a great foil or counterbalance to Ben. Ben is all experience, no training, while Rook is all training and no experience. I love Dynamics like this. The new aliens we got introduced to are some of my favorite among the lineup. Ball Weevil, Gravattack, and even Bloxx became three of my absolute favorites. I made a smaller comment about this during your community post, but there are a few things that this series unfortunately does that ruins other aspects of the other series. The Rooters Arc is the worst one, ruining Kevin and the other Alien Children's backstories.

I was able to catch up to Omniverse right up until before the final Arc because I had lost cable TV for a while, though I still enjoyed what I got to see as I was totally fine with the artstyle change, Rook's presence and tonal shifts (though I honestly wanted Gwen to keep her Episode 1 design). If anything, it was a great middle ground between the classic and sequel series that came before as well as a general celebration of everything Ben 10 in general. Will definitely catch up with the remainder of Omniverse at some point. Though by the time the reboot came out I was already growing out of CN and all the bad things I kept hearing about it made me skip it alltogether. Regardless, this was a great retrospective and it reawakened a lot of memories I had watching each of the first 4 series when they were first released. Keep it up.

Thank you for doing this retrospective as someone who fondly remembers OS to UAF and had internet friends to binge OV with and decide to like the reboot once season 3 hit. and thank you for not outright shitting on or being passive aggressive with the reboot, I see the flaws in it too and it's pros as well. I love Yuri as vilgax such a highlight. I don't see a lot of fans being open about the reboot, even when the "Benwunners" get in the way. I always thought this was a midquel that would go between the original Ben 10 and Ben 10 Alien force, showing Ben after his childhood being in his pre-teenage years. I never thought this was actually a sequel to all the other series.

as someone who really enjoyed the first Ben 10 series when I started watching in the middle of the show and then was into Alien Force's first two seasons but dropped off during the third (and then a similar thing happened with Ultimate Alien, where I got into it halfway through season 1 and really enjoyed the rest of that season, but dropped off in season 2), Omniverse is the one I pretty much watched all the way through (started only a few episodes in, and continued to the end) and as such is the one I have the most nostalgia for, watching it during my last two years of high school and my first semester of college. I recently finished a rewatch in honor of the show's 10th anniversary, and I still really enjoy it, especially the Malware arc (as he's my favorite villain and is voiced by Corey Burton, my all time favorite voice actor) and everything to do with the multiverse and time travel.

@@potatofarmergyro1720 and the design is so detailed too. Must have been pretty hard to animate. Props to them. Not to mention UAF would always recycle things whenever they they could in pretty lazy ways. Well, that was uncalled for, I like UAF too, but overall the visuals could have been better. A lot of designs in OV are improvements over the UAF ones. Try saying that on Instagram, especially Indian posts. Heck, set your phone on vibration to achieve pure bass. Overall I don't understand the people that still hate OV to this day despite not watching it just because of the style change. And heck, it's a cartoon. It should look like one, you know.

Made it through the whole 3 part series. I loved Ben 10 as a kid and as I approach my 30s seeing this really hit me with the most nostalgia I've had in a long time. Makes me want to watch the whole thing because I didn't finish omniverse and maybe missed a big chunk of ultimate alien, I don't remember. Anyway this was awesome thanks for reminding me how much I love Ben 10 looking forward to your next mega project (provided the work for this one didn't make you never want to do it again)

I saw the premiere and thought it looked lame but it probably marries the elements of Ben 10 the best imo. I appreciate your videos man. Ben 10 was one of my favorite shows and I kinda left it behind when Omniverse came out caus it seemed "too kiddie." Glad I go to re-live a new Ben 10 as an adult. Thanks for reminding me! Omiverse is my favorite of the seasons. We're at the point of the show where it's gone on so long that it allows the show to go full blown crazy, and I really enjoy that. And Walkatrout and Toepick are probably my two favorite aliens.

This entire retrospective was incredible. As someone who grew up watchin Ben 10 I wasn't fond of Omniverse like most but this made me appreciate it more than I thought I would & made me realize I watched FAR more of It than I initially remembered lol. The reboot at least doesn't seem AS bad as I initially thought it would with my TTG Vietnam flashbacks still semi-fresh at the time but I still ain't genuinely touchin it wit a 10 foot pole. It's 1 of my fav cartoon franchises & would love to see more \

Yea I really appreciate you making this Ben 10 series. When Omniverse came out I looked at it the same way I did Teen Titans Go. I saw the art style and immediately thought it was an entirely different show that didn’t remain faithful to the overall story. In hindsight I wish I would’ve watched it because the art style is actually really nice and from what I’m hearing, the story was pretty good as well.. sidenote: omg I love the Secret Saturdays man so underrated needed more than 2 seasons. The kid me would’ve died seeing their crossover 😭

Finally finished watching the last of this 3 part series, and you made me fall in love with this show again. I was 10 when this show came out and I grew up with it. My friends and I never had all the toys individually, but together we were able to bring what we had and use our imaginations to further the story of Ben10. I've watched all three videos completely. This is a nice retrospective series. I watched all the Ben 10 incarcerations. My favorite is Omniverse. I liked the writing and the animation. Everything else up to this point was nice and okay. Omniverse was just goofy enough and serious enough that they complemented each other. I tried watching the 2017 reboot. I couldn't get into it. I acknowledge that is designed more for kids, which is fine, but it just didn't jell. Now, if there was another continuation, personally I'd like to see something between Omniverse and the Reboot. I don't care about the animation, if the story is good, I'd get down with it

Binging this entire three part series was a ton of fun. I was only an "in passing" fan of Ben 10 back in the day. But now, having young kids, my 5 year old son loves the reboot and even plays the newest game. Even though I dropped the series off at Ultimate Alien (mainly because my parents didn't want cable TV anymore) I'm so glad that the legacy of what I enjoyed as a kid at around 10 years old is till honored to this day despite me not liking the majority of the writing and art style. Omniverse had some really bad filler in my opinion, and Ben’s personality spiked up and down in terms of snob, but it will always be special because of how it closed the book on Ben Prime. The reboot was a great ride too, especially when it comes to all of the over 10 minute specials and movie.

Watching all 3 of these videos has made me want to revisit the franchise. I never got to watch it as a kid so I watched it as a older teenager at 16 or 17, it was my favorite show. Watched all through to Ultimate Alien. Omniverse had been it for a while but I assumed it was a reboot but when I have it a chance I adored what it did! Thank you for making these three videos and the length of them was great! Gave me time to enjoy and reflect! Can’t wait to see more!

Hey, Jordan, I just wanna tell you how much I've enjoyed your long form 'Ben 10' retrospective. I watched all three parts today. I still remember watching the premiere of the very first episode of the original series and immediately falling in love with the art style. The spirit of Jack Kirby is alive and well in every aspect of the classic show. 'Alien Force' was a big adjustment for me, I felt like 15 year-old Ben was too bland, like he'd matured out of being himself. The quality of the writing kept me on board, however, and I adore how strong the resolution of the Highbreed arc was. The return of Ben's ego and over-inflated confidence in the following season was welcome to me and I felt the show was never stronger than the Ultimate Aggregor arc of 'Ultimate Alien.' The shift in art direction in 'Omniverse' was such a breath of fresh air! I didn't prefer all the redesigns (as a diehard Big Chill fan I could never adjust to that swole-A-F redesign), but I was overjoyed at how considered every element was. I wish I had seen more of the show in its original run, but the episodes were airing wildly out of order and eventually I had to stop because the carefully plotted story was just impossible to follow when airing as a jumble of episodes from different arcs. To date I have never seen the final couple of arcs, but I am relieved to learn that the show was given a proper, satisfying send-off. I think you and I are of a similar mind when it comes to the reboot series. Every now and then I saw flashes of utter brilliance, but most of the time it swung between stale retread of what came before and dull attempts to turn an action adventure show into a dumb comedy with no consequences or overarching story. Once again, congratulations on putting out such a great, in-depth look at the incredible world - no, universe - no, *omniverse* - that is 'Ben 10.' I can't wait to see how 'Ben 10' returns to build onto the series' strong legacy.

Honestly, Omniverse was nutty. It's basically Ben 10 with elements of TF: Animated, probably because DJW was involved. The reboot isn't very good from what I've seen, but David Kaye plays Grandpa Max so that's one good thing.
