i personally don’t get the kid laroi hate, it’s quite clear he was just more of a singer than a rapper and he was in the rap scene for a bit but over time his ‘rapping’ wasn’t that good so he decided to just go into pop because even if it’s maybe not what he wanted to do that’s what suited his skill set more. My favorite emo rapper of all time Drippin So Pretty has switched up his sound and has been making either moody rock or electronic rap. And I’ve noticed MANY artists have been doing something similar. Paris Shadows has been leaning heavily into post punk lately, for example.
