The Fall of Forza Motorsport

After being on top with Motorsport 3 & 4, both Microsoft and Turn 10 would be hit with the roughest patch of Xbox's history, caused by the many questionable decisions made by both developers and publishers. After some time I finally experienced Forza Motorsport 5, 6 and 7 to confirm if its truly as bad as I've heard with the many questionable changes that was made.

Everything from the nonstop talking about built from the ground up to cars that were going to be brand new for Motorsport at first but got into FH5 right after. And the advertising in the reveal trailer of the "cover car" that turns out it was locked behind a paywall, which I do think was changed so fair on them for that one I guess

@@TheoF1 They rebuilt the game engine from the ground up and that was done, They were refering to the game engine and the way it handled the physics and the cars etc. They might of used some older car assets but that's fine with me the part that mattered was the physics cause the old engine was not really good at them. This is why the apex used to throw your car off and they slid around alot. They might of run out of time to rebuild every car but they were reworked at least the way the interact with the surface they are driving on...

Fun Fact FM5 was the only Motorsport game that was actually built from the ground up. They remodeled all cars interiors so they can be viewed in the FORZA VISTA mode which was previously called AUTO VISTA in FM 4. In FM4 there was only 25 explorable cars while in FM5 all cars were completely explorable which is insane. Also all tracks in the game were completely remodeled for the new engine(includes lighting and physics). Most work definitely went into FM 5 out of all FM games cuz they basically haven't changed much since then. Even FM5 looks better than FM 2023 in most cases. FM 5 should not deserve the hate it did considering how much it changed the franchise and how much work has been put into it considering really small under 2 year development cycle.

@@ramirez4456 They upgraded almost all cars since they had more power with xone on the new engine. They probably only reused 25 cars from FM 4 that were available in AUTO VISTA cuz they were the only detailed and explorable ones. I said the interiors were completely remodeled on all cars including the ability to open trunk and place where engine is located which FM 4 didn't have AT ALL. All of them did receive upgrades so they can fit better in the new lighting system (includes changes to their surfaces and paints also upgrades to models). THIS ALL COUNTS AS A REMODEL. Have you seen FM 5 models being compared to FM 2023? FM 5 has much much more detailed car models.

The main problem with modern Forza is just that they're soulless. The older games had a certain playfulness to them, whether it be through the art style, soundtrack, progression and career mode or the numerous quirky cars with loads of customization. Most of that is gone since FM5. Modern Forza tries way too hard to be this serious track racer that it just ends up becoming boring slop that no one will come back to in 10 years from now.

you guys love farming views huh. The game is fun, needs stability patches and other updates but come on now. Physics feel good on wheel when tweaked. Everything else just needs an update. If youre not into motorsport and tracks then obviously hop on horizon. But GT7, forza motorsport, acc are the same game people..they each have there own flaws that you can say its not real but come on. Pick your favorite car and get on the track and shut up damn

We want a complete *game,* with a real campaign mode, replayability, and a progression system that lets the player have some control over their decisions. The ultra-linear campaign modes of both GT7 and Forza Motorsport provide zero opportunity for players to progress in a manner that they find fun and rewarding, and the post-games of both feel empty and pointless, with only a few weekly challenges for players to put a couple hours into. Quite frankly, if physics and tracks are all that matters, Assetto Corsa probably had your attention more than Forza could ever hope to. And that's not a bad thing, it's just that Forza Motorsport and GT are not that kind of game.

honestly not sure why i love playing new forza motorsport but i enjoy that game the handing and overall gameplay and graphics are much better than 8th gen fm's. the main downsides are lack of content just like fm5 ( its not worse than this at least when i compared them in launch ) and many bugs ( it is like they give us a beta version for players to test for them ) turn 10 just waste of new fm potential with many problems hope they fix them in future very soon because this game with this graphic and physics can be one the best forza games at least better than 8th gen fm games

Ironically of all the games that should've been delayed, it should've been 5. I give 5 a moderate pass for having less content just due to maintaining the same release period while also having to remake pretty much all of the car and track assets. The autovista in 4 was a very limited selection because most of the cars were too low res, FM5 had it for every car because every car was remade. How FM8 took even longer to come up with less content, half-baked ideas, looking worse, AND re-using most of the same car models baffles me. Hell, it even has less tracks.

Motorsport 5 did have drag races they were pretty popular online i think you can change the game mode in freeplay to access them and Motorsport 6 online was the pretty good with the league events were you could win Unicorn cars by acquiring enough points. do believe there were only 3 in the leagues and some were hidden in menus and the carrier. Motorsport 7 was a lot more different when it launched but they redid a lot of the menus on options in the updates were you mentioned them removing the loot boxes along with fixing the game but it was rumoured in the time they spent fixing the game there was meant to be a rally/offroad expansion hence the all the offroad vehicles

You forgot to mention that the split-screen multiplayer for FM 5 - 7 is also completely broken lol. The sounds and controls are so busted its kinda funny. In FM6 it would sometimes glitch out and player 1 would be controlling player 2s car at the same time which was super weird i have no idea if it was fixed but it was funny.

Looking at these older FM titles here, they sure have been treated with more care than the new Motorsport game even if some of them were a little bland. I kind of appreciate the short time I had with FM7 despite the few issues it had, the new motorsport just doesn't do it for me. It's really bad how awful the series has become and this is from someone who went to PS4 after FM4. I don't have hopes for this series anymore because if Gran Turismo can be ruined by capitalism's worst elements within the industry, we've already seen it with the new FM. They're going to shelve the series and pretty much cancel it for the foreseeable future.

My issue with Forza is, hands down, the AI. The top three cars are gone at the beginning of the race; don’t race each other, and don’t race you once they are passed. I would love a Forza game with ACC AI. Forza fails at racing

It seems to me that for years developers have only wanted to show off their great graphics. I've noticed this especially with Forza ( regardless of whether it's Motorsport or Horizon), especially since the xbox one era. Unfortunately, the gameplay takes a back seat. And there are unfortunately many players who are dazzled by beautiful graphics...

Late Forza game are really shallow in my opinion. Also the level up in FM7 is a bit different. In later level up are many cars which are not for free. You just get a discount on these cars, which is quite annoying tbh. On bright side, money is not a big deal

I hate that starting in FM5 they got rid of the 1st 2 transmission upgrades being just putting a short shifter on the existing transmission then letting you change the final drive and instead the 1st upgrade puts in a stupid close ratio 5 speed. I want to be able to just make the final drive lower in an old muscle car/sports car so it doesn''t hit redline at 110-120 mph anymore, but now I have to find out what the actual gear ratios are with a racing transmission just so I can have a taller final drive with the "Stock" gearbox. Why'd they break that specifically which wasn't broken before? Did they think we wanted a 5 speed conversion for all 3-4 speed cars?

So, you want to artificially manipulate the final drive rather than have them artificially manipulate the number of gears it has? And, this is a major problem for you? Waah, this car has an unrealistic number of gears when it should have an unrealistic final drive!

What I mean is they got rid of what was a normal thing to modify, putting in a shorter or taller final drive, after fm4 for a stupid close ratio 5 speed as the 1st transmission upgrade on an older car, and 2nd upgrade being adjusting the final drive on that stupid close ratio 5 speed. You should say, be able to change the final drive on a car like the 69 Camaro ss396 from the 3.91 stock to a 3.08 to 1 or taller to get the top speed from around 115 at redline to 140+. I'm not talking putting an insane 5.99 final drive on a modern supercar to give it insane acceleration and a 120 top speed

Forza is a good franchise but the issue is they're trying too much to compete with Gran Turismo franchise, and i hate to say this but i wouldn't mind to see an exact copy of Gran Turismo with Forza name on it, with Rally Tracks and the recent adition of Lake Lousie snow track.

Gran Turismo also has quite a few problems. To be honest, I'm tired of simulation racing games. Also, I want Burnout, MotorStorm, Ridge Racer more than Need for Speed. what really makes me angry is Namco did not announce a new Ridge Racer, but personified it. For god's sake, Ridge Racer's rival, Cruis'n returned in 2017, Hot Wheels racing game returned in 2021, and LEGO racing game and F-Zero returned this year. Top Gear(Top Racer in Japan) returns next year. Even San Francisco Rush might return. I saw that Digital Eclipse and Atari were interested in San Francisco Rush. If Rush returns, Namco should be prepared to be criticized. It's sad that most of Raycevick's criticisms of racing games are true.

I honestly thought the FM7 multiplayer got killed off years ago on PC at least. I preordered the ultimate version after skipping the Xbox One in favour of a new PC. Whenever I tried to get into multiplayer I would get black screens every time. Then after the message about end of life I figured they killed it well before then. As you say the sterile nature was so weird after coming from FM4 and previous games. And levelling up wasn't always a free car, but discounted.

Played every Forza since FM2 when I was a child. I have been a diehard Forza defender and Xbox fanatic. Between the decay of the franchise and the gradual moving-on of my Xbox friend groups, I made the switch to PS5 last week. If you ever cared about Motorsport, I promise you that you will love and enjoy GT7 more than any Forza Motorsport besides FM4 perhaps. Everything about it is just more satisfying, challenging, and dynamic. Don’t reward Turn10 and Microsoft’s incompetence. Vote with your feet.

I LOVED the original Motorsport back in the day. Never really played any of the following releases until I got Motorsport 7, albeit a little late into the games life cycle. The game was relatively enjoyable to play, and had me excited for 8 as I believe it had recently been announced when I started my journey on 7. Sad to see what they’ve done with this new title, I really had high hopes.

​​@@Cyberbrickmaster1986xenia, the Xbox 360 emulator lets you play forza motorsport up to fm 4. It runs reasonably well. Some crashes may happen and i am unsure about steering wheel support. But it runs and i enjoy it. Also playing gran turismo 4 and 5 on my PC. But gt 5 runs... less well.

I hated the homologation in FM7. It didn't seem like a Forza game anymore. I also don't share the opinions about the music in that game. I preferred FM3 and 4 more and 6 was pretty good as well. Having said that, I only had music outside of a race but I kind of need it there or else it feels really dreary. Anyway, good video.

Yeah, FM8 or whatever they want to call it, the graphics can look good, but they only seem to look good when it rains and its night time, but its to me only marginally better than FM7 when it rains at night, FM7 also I think did a better job with hydroplaning, it seems like its non existent in this one. I do like the handling better int he new FM, I personally like the car leveling system, though it does need a bit of work, no reason to unlock race stuff so early and street stuff so late, or removing a spare tire, thats something that should be locked behind a level, I do think most things should be unlocked at like level 20 - 25 and the rest of the way just numbers, maybe a cash pay out when you reach level 50, idk. Graphics during the day is washed out, in some cases the colors make it look worst than FM7. Carrer mode is not great, Its boring, vary little to do with actual track/race cars, but 98% of does just street cars, It kinda feels weird.

To me it's one of those things. Mobile cut the depth design or console depth but MTX. Showcases were the best parts of 5-7, career tours were basic no FF cup strategy just hatchback.... Fine, bad , better than 6, half 5&7 tied but casual audience appeal or 'different' they got worse. Can't say for online but singleplayer eh. Sure their voices but eh tours, forced tracks and more doesn't change the garbage structure. Or content handling but their voices and words save it. I don't notice those in Forza Motorsport but still FM6 is a remix game and a bad one. Mod weight avoid on Raptor event. FN3' affinity it's 5 levels so easier to do. XD sure...... I get yrh systems do differ but even still not much or 3-4 changed in some areas so the extension than the 5 level limit of FM3 and percentage. I find that funny sorry. Is it better yes of percentage discounts but its so little effort to reach level 5 anyway. That's why it's funny. Not saying oh pro gamer logic I just find it ironic that sure the changes are there but the level scales are so different besides the upgrades and manufacturers affinity for car prices or upgrades or the 5% to otherwise increase as yes too far and I hate weak percentages so I don't disagree there just find it funny because it's such a big jump in FM3 for less work while the other is ok in FM4 while 5 it's a bigger jump of percentages and system structure. I get the manufacturer then part discounts but I never ever use upgrades I play on average so unless you play on hard difficulty why bother with upgrades ever. It's not Gran Turismo difficulty structure Forza Motorsport never did follow that design. It followed it's design and you never need them. Good driving and not breaking the car and your good. So to me the discounts meant nothing unless higher difficulty. Sure it can effect that higher difficulty player but for most people they won't even ever have to engage with the systems. Does it work maybe? The differences I get of more brand loyalty and percentage scaling so more grinding and also different then the FM3 discounts and 5 levels then 10+ or however many but otherwise eh. For me I never cared but for high level players sure I totiser it being a bit more work. I just never used upgrades, I used the car I could or stock highest class range/event opponent option so..... Barely any challenge. But still turned the auto driving off because that setting is annoying. At least it's not FM7 3 options well I'll pick the car for the event opening or credits not the gear/liveries thanks. What a joke. FM5 giving nothing but credits and discounts I mean it still something and you get so much of it it's not that hard. Do I think your over thinking and overcomparing I get the car reward appeal but it's not a bad thing compared to the others worse design. Credits/discounts are still a benefit even if oh no not another character or weapon or thing to keep me moving forward. I like weapons, enemies and levels to keep me going but if it pulls back on that I don't mind it's not that bad. I don't find something new every hour to be always that exciting. But I get it's important for attention span and players not being bored/seeking something out of the game sure...... That and yes something for your efforts of playing the game I get that but it's still a reward just not the bigger obvious reward you wanted or are used to. But again you don't need them. You pick and choose. It's not Honda Fit GT6 here at least. FM5 has no need for rewards you have no progression strategy of the calender/all event list or GT format of drivetrain, FF cup, Sega GT displacement. Sure car class of F to S or car models of hatchback to supercar but otherwise it makes sense why they did it to be OPEN then restricted the point is choice like open worlds but also casual choice of mobile games or well as you expect wish fulfilment you seem to miss that point of why 5 is desiithat way. I get the wow car moments matter but more with game design with progression not do whatever you want and winning a car you could get some satisfaction but does it matter not really. And hey it's less in your face then others do I enjoy FM5 for that being open but less pandering. Ah car incentives sigh. The Top Gear voices are great but otherwise eh levels and wish fulfilment and you barely need them. Play and no depth. Some design can align of better. The 3rd and more was a fair balance I think as I suck at it sometimes but usually out of boredom and physics. I mean currency sure but hey it's better than here is a supercar you can't use in FM6 because tours are focused on those car classes aka did they learn from Project Gotham Racing 2 people were disappointed because oh race car class events at the end progression what. Even for arcade mode nah canihave that change the game to allow them so easily the wish fulfilment dream car boring people. So why does FM6 understand neither of these aspects but wants to be wish fulfilment one at least not for the career mode anyway but the arcade/online anyway. XD FM5 is ok for it's championship approach made me think Gran Turismo 1 only slightly different and longer, varied event types then pushed to showcases of FM6 so FM6 career is boring. Aka why FM5&7 are better to me. Excitement I mean sure but do you want a car that'd right like FM1-4 or too high end and not what you need of FM6+ FM5 not giving you cars allows you to buy whatever, sure grinding but it's less supercars in your face. Even if FM5 allows more car class choice to access any at any time any new tours or past events or bonus events at any time while FM6 forces you to do tours and gives cars which makes no sense. FM5 might be less exciting but it's more open so it is more exciting compared to the others. If you want open then more restrictions that matter for structure then FM6 structure being too awkward while 7 balanced it out more. Even Ride 2 having Forza Motorsport 6 cutscenes made me roll my eyes while 4 having Forza Motorsport 1&2 region system made me smile but angry at the difficulty of the AI/tasks and also disappointed the length of them besides the structure being cool. To me Codemasters and Milestone are nailing it, the deeper Sims are doing their things and the others are too but just disappoint me. Aka Project Cars is fine but 3 is Shift 3 so hit and miss. I enjoy Shift 1 hate Shift 2, PC3 is as bad as Shift 2 or worse. GT/Forza are competing but still not compelling or interesting in their ideas. A position selection.... MX vs ATV Unleashed or not that much a step at all Forza use cases or otherwise in racing games. That and well less appealing RPG system then Alfa Romeo one make by Milestone offering RPG points or the better and intro to rewind systems in 2006...... With Evolution GT or Apex after or before. I take WRC 2023 for Sega GT car builder thanks. With Gravel/OnRush (multiplatform MotorStorm with new mode types is how I see OnRush) somewhere in there as an ignored rally game because people just did game show and not much compelling it was fun. I'll get to the other Dirt games besides Dirt 2 PSP & 3 PS3 I have played. But Gravel and Inrush were fun. The racing genre is hit and miss. Same with Hack n slashes. God of War bleh, Hellblade similar, Valkyrie Elysium yes please, Bayonetta 3 eh passable then again parts of Astral Chain/EMC5 in there so eh. DMC5 fine I guess not played enough of it but eh had similar issues. Hack n slashes and Tactics RPGs are like the only two keeping me cariifor current gen. If Stellar Blade is good sure otherwise eh retro. Racing barely is at this point that's for sure. Platformers eh too Mario/Banjo nostalgia focused or porting the ones no Indies care to be inspired by do good I guess but still says a lot of the Indie space those that try and those that are cheap inspirations of popular childhoods because customers are idiots I mean marrow focused on key design they seek regardless of what gens/key games they look at, compare or don't play to replicate an experience or care about their differences if the big one is still in their mind or the Devs are idiots/narrow inspired too both possible. Built from the ground up aka we wasted years with assets old and new and our engine for ray tracing and trash elements you don't care about then making the game.

I can't remember when i played a racing game were i had to earn the price car, ohh now i remember, Gran Turismo 1, 2, 3, 4 :-D I wonder why racing gamers wine about missing cars and other meaningless things, when a mechanic from before the internet were a thing is more powerfull than what we have to day :-D The player would have a reason to comple that race series or championship or race, to win an awesome car. Just imagine if you the player in Forza Horizon could win cars, by winning races, insted of the crs were handed to you :-D or in Forza Motorsport (what ever number) you had to complete a race series to get a car, maybe like GT 1 style were there are 4 cars and random picking, even that would be cooler than what we have now 😀 I wonder is it even possible to start a debate war between Gran Turismo and Forza games anymore? How i see it, none of them have nothing to pull the player in with or any reason to play :-D ... but then again i maybe wrong, but prove me wrong :-D

The reviews are largely negative. Theyve copied and pasted the worst from FM7 and claimed its all new. They've also eliminated freedom of choice with the BS car points leveling system and called it a car RPG forcing you to drive a car for literally hours before you accumulate enough car points to modify your car to be competitive. Example, I drove a Camaro ZL1 1LE for 3 hours yesterday leveling it up enough to take it to the top of S class. Another 20 min or so fine tuning it. Did the same for a Corvette and a Lambo. 9 hours to modify and tune 3 cars into S Class... The grind the game forces you to do is absolutely BS. Thats my biggest issue with the game. The sound, can be fixed, cars can be added, tracks can be added, modifications and body kits etc can be added but this leveleing system needs to be eliminated entirely. The only reason I can think they added this, was to slow players down while they catch up development of their massively unfinished game. Its garbage rn. 74% of the reviews on the Microsoft store are 2 or 1 stars. The fanbase is not happy and I'm one of them.

Well Forza Motorsport is a huge waste of potential. Whole thing what they tried to sell is only polished graphics. While GT7 selling the best of racing art so far. Have both consoles Series X and PS5 but in this case potentially Series X doesn't meet many gamers expectations with the new Motorsport. I'll say this jumping for a brilliant SIM like AC and jumping down to GT7 and ACC is like changing the room in the same paddock but when jumping to Motorsport it's like public nasty toilet so far.
