Forza Motorsport 3 was my first Forza title. I thought it was absolutely amazing, and so of course I played Motorsport 4. The thing is, Motorsport 3 has that sort of nostalgic feeling to it, I don't even know how to describe it. It's just such a good game man.

Features from fm2 but refined and features from fm4 that were improved slightly. I honestly think fm4 players have the same nostalgic feeling u do, they played only 4 or 4 first

The Rally di Positano is my favourite course in the entire franchise actually. I know the Amalfi Coast returned in FM4 under the name, but the full masterpiece was only in FM3. I wish it and Fujimi could return in a future FM game. Imagine how gorgeous they'd look with modern graphics!

​@@xXVibrantSnowXx The biggest problem I have with the FM2 soundtrack is the fact that it only plays parts of certain songs instead of playing the full song. I feel FM3 has a better structured soundtrack with a separate list of songs for racing and in the menus.

I agree FM3 was truly the peak of the series. It just had that type of energy that was present in the previous two but further amplified. The racing music was the best in the series , the menu music fitted the game perfectly, the physics where actually surprisingly friendly, and of course, the super overpowered/unrealistic builds with engine swaps you could do (If i remember correctly, FM3 had more engine swaps overall than 4).

FM3 was definitely the best visually looking game. The track environment was better and the driving physics was better. FM4 was just the best overall game, especially in the content department. The soundtrack in FM4 still to this day brings so much emotion. I still get goosebumps everytime listening to it. We were all hoping for Microsoft and Turn 10 to build off of FM3 & FM4 but they went the complete opposite direction

Man, Lance Hayes' soundtrack in FM3 is absolutely phenomenal. Best in the series for me. I love FM4, but I have more childhood memories associated with FM3, and I love the atmosphere. Like you said, it's clean and professional, and the 'view car' function in the dealership with that menu music... just awesome.

I was one of those that switched over from PS2 to 360, since I'm a huge racing nerd. It was such a giant leap going from GT4, which I love, that I never went back to PS. The graphics, the physics, the game play, was more than just next level. It was a huge leap.

Same story here, went from GT3/GT4 to FM4/FH1. Although unfortunately I only enjoyed my PS2 childhood, I only got my X360 games at a recent grown age, I wish I could be multiple years younger.

I played FM2 on numerous occasions when released, although it was my cousin’s game. We wound up knowing a guy who would modify 360’s, and ended up with an endless number of new games (2009-2010) booted to the HDD. Forza Motorsport 3 was my entrant into the series, & by far my favorite to play.

3 isn't quite the peak but it's so close, it feels like it's 80% of the way to FM4 in terms of everything. The game has aged so damn well though irrespective of FM4 and is 100% worth playing. If you're also playing it on Xbox 360 then it's the last Motorsport game that you can still get most of the DLC for legitimately. The Ultimate Collection Edition of the game includes all the DLC on a Disc except the Community Choice Pack and some of the special Pre-Order stuff. Definitely agree on the Soundtrack as well, Lance Hayes did an absolutely phenomenal job with both 3 and 4's OST.

I fucking loved the Calendar gameplay, being able to have a real career and the feeling of something new everyday. So many games could benefit from it instead of just a set list. And the white interface is 2nd only to the Colin McRae games.

Peak of forza is motorsport 4. That's when they pushed 360 to it's limits. Huge graphical jump from fm3. Also please play it on 360 for full experience since emulation of the game on xenia is pretty bad. They introduced for the first time in forza series image based lighting. Image-based lighting basically means that the cars are lit by the image of the environment around them. So if you put that car anywhere in the world, it will be lit correctly. You haven’t got to fake it, you haven’t got to bake it. The cars are totally real-time image-based lit. That’s one of the reasons they look good. It ran at 720p and constant 60fps without a single frame drop. Overhauled AI and better physics. They introduced the option to create car clubs and share garages within that club, and that the game will support 16 player online racing. They changed cockpit view on all cars , they needed to overhaul cockpit for every car because of the new lighting system. They increased the fov and changed how light reacts to materials inside the cockpit . Also they added 500 cars at the launch. They also introduced autovista for the first time and had 25 fully explorable cars with insane amounts of details. Players can utilize Kinect to look into a corner using a new head tracking feature. This allows them to look toward the apex of a corner or at nearby cars. The controller or steering wheel is used to control the car while Kinect is used independently for viewing around the driver. Players can also use Kinect as a game controller. In this setting the game automatically accelerates and decelerates the player's vehicle utilizing a modified version of the feature known as Auto Brake in Forza Motorsport 3. Sound from over 500 cars was captured on a dyno in a Redmond, WA garage, using the same recording setup first used with the Bizarre Creations' PGR games beginning in 2001. Fans of the game were also solicited to bring their own cars for recording. An 8 to 10 channel recording device captured sound from microphones at the engine, intake, and exhaust. High SPL mics were used on the loudest of cars, notably the Mazda 787B, to reduce distortion. In Autovista mode, engine startups were recorded in 5.1 from the perspective of the driver's head plus mics near the engine and exhaust.

What comes after is the peak, although I miss the full Rally di Positano track hugely which only this game has. The people who designed the 360 era FM titles must have either all left or fell down long flights of stairs after FM4, because everyone from that point on seemed to forget what made FM2/3/4 so great. And unpopular opinion here, I have seen nothing of the new FM so far that makes me reconsider that.

FM3's career mode is hands down better than 4's. Season play, longer races all around and actual endurance events still present, all this stuff was watered down heavily in the next game

Well, it's very close to the summit. But... Let's just say that it is friendlier to the player than it's sequel. Anyways, FM3 is Still an amazing game I play to this day. One can't simply say that he finished Forza, he can say how many times he finished Forza.

I think FM4 does everything a little bit better and was the perfect sendoff into Horizon 1 :) AND FM4 runs nearly perfect on Xenia, all the kinks regarding shadows and artifacts seem to be gone...

My biggest issue, is I could never get it to run on the emulator. Same with FM4. It would just crash when trying to load. And it never accepted the 2nd disc, just crashes when swapping to it. But got my old Xbox out and played 3. Was fun but feels so weird going from GT4 to FM3. But loves both games as a kid.

I really want to experience games like FM4 or FM5 on the hardware that they're made for. Microsoft delisting these games from the digital stores is a huge bummer and unless I buy a second-hand console, I'll have to wait for emulators to catch up and make these games fully playable for a guy like me. (Although games like FH2 make matters a bit worse with its delisted DLCs)

I started with FM2 and the transition to 3 was amazing but the transition to 4 was almost out of this world. FM4 is definitely the best game in the series no question. Maybe an unpopular opinion but Horizon 1 is the best Horizon game too.

@@DoVe_7What I actually did for FM4 was go into the games files and manually fix the shadows by entering each race track files and editing a few lines (didn’t know patches existed) and since I assume the FM3 is coded 99% the same, I would assume you can do the same thing there.

Forza Motorsport 3&4 are the peak while 1&2 are their era. Alfa Romeo Racing Italiano rewind system from 2006 then Grid 2008 says hi. Love it's point systems no PI/PP system too. Wish racing games or other games in general had better systems, but they get ignored for eh RPG systems of modern games so much innovation gone because oh the industry is bland with ideas. The only good thing is the position system in FM8 wow and garbage RPG unlocks as hated as GT7 no thank you GT5 levels and Forza ones were good enough not too much hindering. I think freedom/brief curation makes sense but suitable restrictions not everywhere so players literally have no idea what they can do, have more questions and get bored because they literally can't do anything at all it's not fun. Car games are good but some are so sad for eighth gen bikes have been more exciting to jump to even. Otherwise these games are great then FM6 linear or other aspects in FM5-8. Also back when GT6/7 and FM6 were anniversary games and not good games to represent them. Good tracks, not as good as Alpine Ring or Blue Mountains of 1 or Test Track of 2 but still. 360 was a good console for its 512MB RAM power PC (DVD may have held it back but they did a good job with what they had I think) was a great idea like Wii/GameCube and the 1080p of Xbox 360 games are good looking still. The orchestras are eh for tone, it's too overly done for racing I think even if I hate that style in high quality video games or over EDM or Rock or something. Quality over quantity, good modes and taking over from PGR. I don't find 3&4 better or worse they have different content for the second disk for sure. Not the same way as PGR 3 (liked more) 4 where I don't like the calendar approach (sure the other aspects are good but still) I can skip it in 3&4 for the list if I want. I can play how I like of 2 ways from the start even if it's intended as a go back to later type menu. The auto powering tune of the cars sucks. You buy them yourself for challenges and preferred play style. Also upgrades seem a waste if you know what your doing/opponents. I rarely ever upgrade because I bought the car/drive it well enough or auto upgrades on the reward cars so I don't have to buy it. So either way not much I need it for but appreciate it. GT games go hard on difficulty for them if don't have the right car. Forza is more fair in scale of car choices/event restrictions. Also rewards and levels make sense not oh fast game progression broken. XD Learn from the past of 1-4 Turn 10.

Forza 4 is definitely the better game but I got Forza 3 in a bundle with Halo 3 ODST and the Xbox 360 Elite back in 2010. The soundtrack and overall feeling of Forza 3 was so special back then… I cant really describe it but everything was so carefree in life as 13 year old kid. I never gave away my 360 and so sometimes I just start these games to feel this vibe again!

Peak? That would imply future Motorsport titles didn’t have better graphics, physics, tuning, events, rewind, nor did they have class and division additions. FM 6 and FM 7 are obviously more polished/defined in all or most of those aspects, not to imply it’s better in those aspects. Rewind is the same, which is good because there should still be no reason to use it unless an A.I spins you out… but FM7 has a VERY good assist to prevent the AI from doing this. Remind me how good FM4’s assist is for this issue. Mainly, what makes the newer motorsports better is the success of the physics. Unfortunately, the only way to understand what I mean requires a determination to take a car around a track as fast as possible; For most car divisions, the only way to take a car around a track as fast as possible is to turn off the assists; For too many players, turning off the assists leads to a bad time, a panic to find a “usable” tune, and a declaration that the old games were better (because the physics were less refined, meaning angled corners didn’t cause spin-outs without user input - looking at you Bernese Alps)… Turn off assists and learn how to drive without them; Learn to use the edge of traction loss rather than allow an assist to apply pressure to the brakes and/or limit your throttle input. THEN you’ll understand why the new Motorsports are better.
