I was looking for a simple no nonsense podcast platform to find and download podcasts. One day I heard they were shutting down google podcasts, that is how I first heard of it. It was basically the thing I was looking for. There is your problem!

Google really has failed at everything they've done. the entire platform is built out of things they bought, even Gmail is not their creation.

"nothing revolutionary" and facebook literally rewrote their interface to give you groups, more restrictions on who could see your posts, more integration with video, the stream (remember FB had a "wall" at that time and more. Google+ failed bc facebook was so dominant and within a year they incorporated everything that was revolutionary about Google+ and I don't know what you find "intuitive" but it is a whole lot easier to drag and drop someone into circles (which you create yourself), than it is to assign them a status through a menu, especially when it didn't exist

I wasn't on social media for a long long time and then when Google+ became a thing I decided to try it out. I got lost in it. Like I would be in meetings and I'd look up and realize I'd missed half the meeting (which wasn't unusual at the time given that I was barely sleeping. Long story). I left Google+ when they got dickish about names. Soon after that the layout of the sight got more.... ADHD. Like you couldn't just scroll down, you had to scan sideways. Which really doesn't work for my brain. So I got out at around the right time.

Simple, attractive interface, intuitive, close to real life behavior, I liked G+ which I saw almost like a game with circles.

As the author of Google+ for Business, I sure felt the sting of some of this. Not that it's wrong. Just I wished they would've kept it alive a bit longer.

They started the G+ at the wrong moment. And made it too complex for users. They had to be privacy sensitive but what the business needed is giving third parties unfettered access to user's data. Without proper business api companies did not have an incentive to move to G+.
