@@XyrianHD gasly is considered a top driver and they’ve been relatively equal on pace while being teammates. He beat Alonso on points one season, and even if alonso’s luck is considered bad that’s still an impressive feat. And he generally wasn’t too far off Alonso in pace. He’s not an elite level driver, but definitely deserves his spot. Don’t let hatred cloud your judgement

@@bengrove97 I think he has the potential to be a top driver, but even being on the worst team, he won’t get himself with a better car by being an asshole to the current people he works with (even if they have beef) and trying to gain brownie points by only letting certain people by as a (kinda petty) way of trying to gain that team’s favor when being lapped. Technically speaking, he has pulled a move from the worst team on the grid to a better team with few positive results to show for it this season, which was what my comment was harping on. It’s a good move for him and I’m glad he’s found security in his career doing what he loves, and I’m interested in seeing if he really does flourish and become a top driver with a better car. I also hope he can start working on himself to stop his asshole-ish behavior because I think without that he becomes a much better product as a driver which can make much more money through bigger sponsorships because he’s like-able. And so he remained silent for a long time and for years he did not expose the "weaknesses" of this team, nor did he bring up any dirty facts about the operational efficiency, efficiency or logistics. Whatever, he cannot be denied the label of an employee who maintains correctness and the principle of confidentiality. The fact that he was the first to decide to leave Alpine in mid-2023, and remained involved in the team's problems until the end, presents him in a very good light (contrary to popular opinion about an egoistic driver). The guy knew that he would leave at the beginning of the season, being targeted by Haas, Williams and Audi. (contrary to the fairy tale put forth by the offended Alpine, which, in order to hide the fact that another driver was escaping from them, decided to use the events in Monaco and convince everyone that it had fired a driver who had been working on an escape for over half a year...). He could have adopted an indifferent and dissatisfied attitude, which is common among departing drivers. Meanwhile, he entered the season more involved than his teammate, defended the team from the prying press and shooed journalists away in Bahrain (something the team never did for him and made him a scapegoat). He motivated everyone on the radio and outside and got the most out of that car. Only now has he let loose and adopted the narrative of drivers who have previously escaped Renault. Considering how the team thanked him after almost 5 years of sporting, financial, practical and emotional involvement, it is not surprising.

As an Alpine fan i must say, i am so angry at Alpine for how they are handling the engine situation. They have the resources, they have the people, they just need to invest in the facility. Yeah, its a lot of money, but it‘ll be worth it and pay itself back. The current engine is behind the competition, but its only marginal. Nothing you couldnt be working and find out why that is with the prooer resources. Now with these rumours (and noone even telling them whats going on), even if Alpine remains with Viry (there was no final decision yet), the poor people in Viry are going to be unhappy. Good people are going to be leaving. I honestly hope that some workers in Viry are going for a strike. Maybe this is exactly what Alpine needs to wake up from its bubble.

Given the history of Haas, Ocon will feel right at home there. As for Bearman, he would just have to drive better than 2021 rookies, which shouldn't be that difficult (sorry, Schumi Jr. fans, but deep down you know he was no good). Also, I think that having hard teammate in rookie season could actually help Bearman develop as a driver, because there's nothing more satisfying than beating such teammate. And Alpine situation is not even worth commenting on anymore. Team has been complete fiasco since their return. Their first 3 seasons were mediocre as hell (outside of occasional good performance by Hulk) and the team lacked any deeper appeal. Ricciardo brought some much needed life and energy but he left quickly, soon followed by Cyril and Prost. After Alpine rebrand, they managed to anger Alonso, lose their future prospect, lost Otmar by scapegoating him and got stuck with unambitious driver duo, with the team being managed by incompetent corporate stooges. The whole engine thing is just another dagger in the coffin.

Been saying it for years. The Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi alliance should team up with Mercedes. The Merc X Class is a rebodied Nissan. GM & Honda could team up to supply Aston Martin & Andretti with different branding on the engines. They do it in Indycar. RBR losing Honda is huge. Good luck building your own engines with Ford batteries, a company getting out of EV’s. Future mid pack team. If Alpine isn’t gone then maybe it’s VCARB?
