Yeah I just really dislike that narrative, and it is not just them. Sure you have a possible advantage if it is your engine vs being a customer but it is not impossible to overcome. It also doesn't take into account that generally a customer team is quite a bit lower down the order than their provider anyway and their customer status isn't the difference maker. And in this example, Alpine would either have to produce a car that is so much better than their current engine deficit (And look how that worked out for Red Bull) or overcome the hurdles of being a customer by having a better car than Mercedes. Either way they need to not have a bad car and management.

Keep an eye on Haas as this culture is also very clear for US based masters like Penske, Andretti, and Haas themselves over there... Beyond these factors, any OEM experienced person will see that the Alpine F1 gig has moved already into a "brand marketing" thingy that we also saw from Mini-BMW when they did the racing series that went directly away once the Mini sales were reaching targets - Remember my words :)

F1 teams come and go, but a constructor with the history, pedigree and legacy of success that Renault has is nothing less than a titanic blow to the sport. It's one thing for the likes of backmarker teams like HRT and Marussia to fizzle out, but one of F1's most historically successful entities withdrawing because of the sheer ineptitude of it's managerial class is a disaster of unbelievable proportions.

This is beginning to end. How as an F-1 team that's own engine decides abandon it and becomes a customer of another? Since has hybrid era began, they have had struggling. Alpine is the less likeable team from the grid (for me) and its selling to Andretti or to any other would be the best way.

Renault has done everything wrong since re entering in 2016, the one defining factor has always been the edict to run the program on the cheap yet expect the same results as the front runners. They are mimicking a factory effort while operating like a privateer, and bringing flavio back in was always going to be regressive. De Meo has been the biggest disaster since Jerome Stoll finally went away, he simply has no idea how to run a race team.

I’m telling you now, Renault will sell its team to Hitech. The hiring of Oliver is pretty obvious.

This was a terrible move for Renault, what they should have done is sell the damn team and stay as an engine supplier. Renault has been historically more successful in this role than being a full works team. The only time they have won this way was 2005-2006 with Alonso. But as an engine supplier, wufff they've got tremendous success. What a shame, I really really like the Renault brand, but this stupidity to push for that Alpine brand has hurt them dearly.

This is highly unlikely but… It would be cool to see Peugeot in F1 A more likely option is to have Andretti just buy them (I would like this too)

Could the reason why Renault wants out of F1 becuse ROI does not look good and there very limited sales market for them? Renault only list 15 countries they have sales in with Brazil being the nearest market to North America with 56,000 sales in H1

@@BiggieTrismegistus They actually were somewhat common in the 60s with Dauphines , R8s and R10s. Sold some R12s and R17 Gordinis. Then about 1975 they tied up with AMC and sold R5 LeCars and then later Alliance and something else - Encores and the sport coupe based on the R17 platform. Then a slow death. Gone before the 90s. Quirky niche cars trying to take on Japan.

Jaguar needs some marketing an f1 team will be a great part of their marketing portfolio

Of course they’re selling the team. They’re giving us their status as a works team. And they’re thinking about crazy moves like getting only fans as a title sponsor. Andretti - here is a team you can buy and join F1. What a dumpster fire. I feel for Pierre.

Not all car manufacturers need F1 to promote the brand. However, a BMW, Porsche or Lamborghini F1 team does sound cool!

With every move they make, they devalue the team and brand. At the rate they are going right now, they will have to pay someone to take it.

TR won’t stop bashing Briatore until they can somehow force him out of Alpine. Then they’ll focus on undermining Max and Alonso again. I like how you ignore every single pro to ditching the factory engine.

Renault doesn't need the money, the Renault F1 team is just an advert for Alpine anyway. They just don't want to spend millions on engine development that might not work out for them.
