I always thought boeing shot themselves in the foot when instead of upgrading the 757 to 21st century specifications (composites, new engine options battery systems etc etc) akin to the 777x instead of stretching the 737 beyond its airframe capability, I read somewhere a pilot said about the 2 that the 737 stretch versions that they need alot of runway and rotation speed and are stretched in climb performance compared to the 757. An improved 757 could have been another world beating aircraft, and who are now developing the natural successor to the 757 legacy? Airbus A321 xlr.

Boeing should have definitely re-engined and updated the 757 a long time ago. I’ve been very vocal for a long time about Boeing’s short sightedness in the withdrawal of the 757 model from it’s lineup. In 2005 the industry was already seeing the shift in point to point operations but Boeing was way too focused on the Dreamliner. Personally i think that if Boeing has the ability to upgrade the plans & resume production then they should do that now, ditch the NMA plans because by the time that is ready to go to market, the aviation industry won’t even resemble what it has been for the last twenty years.

The real genius of the 75/6 was the common type rating, both for pilots and the avionics were interchangeable. Iirc there was an issue with the 767 yaw damper (SB included both hw and sw upgrades - which required replacing the proms for both processors, so it was effectively all hw anyway) which meant a lot of expense for the (unaffected) 757 being updated as well. Memory is being stretched; there was a SL and a couple of SBs that were usually all done at the same time I think. I was on the bench, so don't know who paid the bill, but a heck of a lot of 757s had avionics upgrades they didn't technically need. Interchangeable parts must have been a dream at the time, but obviously the unexpected costs kicked in.

When the Dreamliner was being developed, I think Boeing really should have made a Dreamliner that would be six-abreast, and directly replacing all B737 variants in terms of capacity, instead of doing the B737MAX. Now that Boeing is planning to launch an NMA, it's still not too late for that to happen. This six-abreast Dreamliner should be called the B797. Perhaps there may not be much of a case for a B767X, but I think that there very well might be much of a case for a B757X. It should be done like the B777X; it should at least have the basic wing design, windows size, and interior and overhead bins as the B777X. I am certain that CFM can develop a LEAP variant to power it.

One of my favorite airliners to fly on, I will miss flying them out of EGE with the rocket-like takeoff and rapid left turn to miss the mountains at the end of the runway. The 737s and A319s they are flying out now just don’t climb anywhere near the same. Fortunately I did get a round trip to Maui on 757s earlier this month.

Never have I flew on one of them, but had the oportunity to take a few photos of a charter flight at SCIP. Very well looking plane.

I always liked the plane. Nice narrow fuselage. Slick design.

The 757 is a successful and great looking aircraft, the climb performance was amazing!! The only regular operator here at LHR is Icelandair with the -200/300 and DHL with their freighters.

Answer to your concluding questions: yes and yes. My second preferred Boeing to look at ( after the 747 of course), and it is just obvious that the 757 was prone to compete with the XLR, if only.

No commercial aircraft looks as intimidating add the 757. It is one of those aircraft that laughs in the face of trouble and has the highest thrust to weight ratio to back it up. The 757 was a favorite to perform the aggressive departure procedure out of KSNA that required an ungodly steep takeoff so as to reach a specific altitude before flying over the houses of some very rich people. 757 Captains used to warn passengers before departure of the unusual takeoff and nearly go vertical to get the job done. It was quite the ride. I will miss this amazing aircraft, for sure.

I've been on a Delta 757 between LAX and MCO. A real shame they're being retired, but good on Delta for keeping theirs!

The very first plain I flew on so I will always have a fondness for the 757

I love how Delta still retains a large fleet of 757’s. Whereas American (and probably United sooner than later) have all but given up on the 757.

I've flown on the 757 numerous times, the last being a flight on United to Hawaii. It surely deserves an update.

Ive flown in 757’s since the early 1990’s and really like them. It would be nice to see Boeing modernize it to compete with the A321XLR. The fact that airlines like American, United, and Delta continue to use them in spite of their age speaks well for the utility of the type.
@mraviatorboii25103 жыл бұрын
American no longer flies them, United will phased them out for the A321XLR by 2025, Delta will continue to fly them tho!!!

Have flown in Northwest, American Airlines and Delta 757's: Delta's were the 300 series, with engine upgrades from the original 200 series American and Northwest were flying. Enjoyed both much more than any 737 I've been on. Just felt roomier, more stable, and quieter.

Such a stunning aircraft to look at and a super nice ride. I routinely booked flights just to ride on it and shall miss it terribly. Great sound and best STOL capability in its class. Good idea to consider a modern version.

Regularly fly Delta on the SNA to ATL route which uses the 757. Great aircraft to fly in and will be missed when they eventually go into retirement.

Not only my favorite looking airliner, but many pilots who have flown her love her, some calling the 757 a “muscle jet.” While it may have made sense to discontinue production under the 2004 conditions, with recent changes and the need for Boeing to expedite completion with the A321 XLR, I am in the camp wanting a re-engined 757, following the Max or Neo template, to come forward.

The 757 was ahead of it's time. Boeing should re-engine and update the 757.

And I still love seeing the 757 modified and used for the Sec. Of State Post in the United States Presidential Fleet. And so the Vice President Post uses on of the 757s and that is nice also. They are great aircraft. I am glad I have worked on the 757s during my career.
