Over the past twenty years, most West Indian players had and still have no loyalty to their own team and hence, were the architects of their team's self destruction. West Indies players use the team just to get international recognition, then suddenly, they are unavailable, yet at the same time they are available to T20 teams all over the world. Lots of mercenaries and a few loyalists. That's WI problem. Roy Greaves Montserrat West Indies

You are absolutely , all those players are one of the major reasons wi cricket has gone to the toilet , I would also add lack of professionalism , I remember a test they got murdered in Trinidad in 2004 and Gayle and Sarwan after the match were dancing with the carib girls , that says it all no passion or pride .
@mervinwinston6178 Жыл бұрын
And just Gayle and Sarwan don't like each other . We are in a mess, and it's gonna take a miracle to get us out. I notice that the differences between West Indies and other nation is that they fly under one flag and the various Islands in the West Indies are always bickering as to which island is better .

The comment about the lack of National Pride due to the fact that players are not playing for their countries directly is misplaced. The region has a shared history that bonded us not merely by choice but destiny. It is that shared History that fueled the passion of the past and will do the same in the future.

The talent is available and the pride is there , selection is the main downfall of our teams . Certain players have been given too many opportunities and are still averaging in the mind 20's early 30's , while others are given one or two games then forgotten. Selectors say they will pick the teams based on performance but the leading wicket taker for the regional 4 day competition for the last 5 years has not been given more than two games at a time. Never played back to back series.

Losing to Scotland and the Dutch in Zimbabwe pretty much sealed the fact the Windies aren’t the powerhouse they once were. The top players are now more focused on playing in overseas leagues for big money and you can’t really blame them when you consider how short careers can be. Maybe the CPL will help keep more players at home, but will the CWI have the finances to keep it going, only time will tell if it’s sustainable for the long term.

True, but the game will go on. The issue is deeper than what most cricket commentators will tell you. It is an issue of economics. People don't have money to feed their family and send their children to school. They will not take the little they have to go and see a cricket match. We need to develop our own multinational businesses in the Caribbean so these companies can sponsor our sporting institutions. These monies can build new grounds and renovate the old ones. Example India, England and Australia. But as always most of our politicians rather take an under table cut from a foreign business.

The deliberate and systemic removal of West Indians from the English county circuit, increased emigration rates, competing sports, loss of social mobility/ cache via playing cricket, the advent of global T20 leagues and a seemingly cultural pervasive aversion to science/ analysis - now a requisite of the modern sports. Player attitude has improved and the team comprehensively defeated England and Sri Lanka in 2022. All is therefore not lost, but with fewer crowds and minimal local corporate interest, the future international setup looks quite grim.

STRANGE/FUNNY? The controversy of the "controversial" runout in the second test nfortunately didn't reflect exactly what happened. The fact is the batsman should be awarded a boundary instead was given out, runout. In the fielder's attempt to pull back the ball it hit his knee and continued to hit the boundary line and rolled back unto the field. It was all the third umpire's failure to focus on the ball.
@portcullis5622 Жыл бұрын
I think you must be confusing two separate incidents. The controversy in the Second Ashes Test was caused by Bairstow being stumped after wandering out of his ground, facing the fast bowler. As the 'keeper was standing well back, there was a slight delay, so it looked harsh. Actually, it was fair enough (especially as Bairstow is a 'keeper and should have known better) and if it had been off a spinner, most people wouldn't have questioned it. The ball went nowhere near the boundary.

If one sees through the MSM's storyline, salient parts of the story are missing. I've listed them below: 1. ICC's new rules introduced in the 80s to blunt the never-ending line of pace bowling talent WI was producing. 2. Big 3's economic clout in the last 2 decades, which wholely ignored the (non-white countries with the exception of India) likes of WI, Pakistan BD & SL(Cricketing Aptheid) 3. Denied access to WI players in English County Cricket for more than 3 decades. 4. Current divide & rule scheduling protocol of ICC in all formats & especially in Tests 5. Stupid rating system of the ICC, which doesn't make any sense. A proper mathematical model needs to be used in the days of AI. The current RATING system is for the time when manual scoreboards were in use.

Eg lack of interest . Change in rules,limit of west indies overseas players , interest in other sports limit on bouncers , T20s ,harder for carribean fans to get tickets abroad. It's time for change. West Indies cricket should be cancelled. We should play as indivdual nations as we do in football athletics and netball,why not cricket . Due to top west indian players in the T20s, the west indies are having to pick 3rd elevens for tests. Its unfair on the players and the crowds. Might as well start from the begining as indivdual cricket nations .

Remember how Virat Kohli reacted to the Indian crowd during the World Cup in England? Basically telling them “ENOUGH!”. Anything like that from captain marvellous Stokes? Not a hint. In fact the English players went out of their way to whip up crowds. I’ve no doubt they were hoping this would add pressure to Smith to breaking point. Finally, one of the greatest five batsman of all time left the crease for the final time on English shores to a round of the usual moronic boos. Well played England, you last bastion of civility, manners and the spirit of cricket. Hypocrites!
