Actually more than Viv, Clive Loyed was more devastating and punishing to the Australian fast bowlers. But more than his batting he was famous for his captaincy. In 1976 actually WI had very good spinners and fast bowlers couldn't do good against even Indians. But still on Fifth test he put his captaincy, even his place in the team on edge and kicked out all spinners from WI team ( including his own cousin Lance Gibbs), and went with those 4 inexperienced fast bowlers and directed them only to bowl fast. That was a watershed moment of a captain's life ever in the history of Cricket. No other captain in history took such a courageous decision ever... *And rest is history* ....

Richards did face Garner, Daniel, Holding, Marshall,Patterson,Walsh and some lesser known fast bowlers over the years in WI domestic cricket. Rather sorry to say that he didn't have a great record against them and batsmen like Gavaskar, Gooch, Wessels, Lamb,Border had far better average than him when it came to facing the four fast bowlers of WI with any combination. Richards never faced 4 dreaded WI fast bowlers together and even then his average against 2 or 3 of them together was much less than that of his famous contemporaries who have been mentioned above. Kapil Dev, Hadlee and Imran Khan also dismissed him cheaply a number of times. How many sixes did Richards hit of the bowling of these 3 bowlers? It was the overall strength of the WI team that paved the way. Many instances when Richards failed with the bat and the West Indies still won those tests and ODI's due to the efforts of other team members.

But, the headmaster saw me on TV, after school. they zoomed in to show a kid hanging over the boundary fence, picking up a ball that was whacked for four runs, and giving it to the Windies fielder. Back at school, on parade, he just looked me in the eye and said quietly "So, how was the cricket?" I replied "VERY GOOD Sir!" Nothing more was said as he walked away with a twinkle in his eye. That bouncer didn't change anything. Viv miss timed the hookshot and got hit. Either way, the West Indies went back to Australia for revenge and nothing would've prevented that. Viv Richards, The' Master Blaster'! Great video, thoroughly enjoyed!

Though the highlight was king viv here let’s not forget what a great captain Clive Lloyd was. The role that he played here will probably define him as the greatest captain cricket has ever seen .

Australians🇦🇺 say: Don Bradman is the greatest batsman ever lived. Indians🇮🇳 say: Sachin Tendulkar is the greatest batsman ever lived. But deep down we all know there was only one king who deserves the title or greatest ever batsman of all time and his name is “Sir Vivian Richards”.🔥

As an Aussie, I have to agree. He was my favourite player when I was young and I had three Slazenger V100 bats just because he used them.

People who are saying Vivian richards is better than Gavaskar fail to point out the unlike Gavaskar , Vivian never faced the Four Horseman of Apocalypse Pace Attack since they were in his team . Just like how Ricky Pointing never face the greatest bowling team of 2000s -McGrath and Warne in International cricket

Wonderfully narrated and thank you for telling this story of yours. Very nicely done ! I compiled my all time Test XI in 2020 in response to one of the ECB videos back then (it hasn't changed), and despite all the talent I've seen in about 45 years of being a fan of cricket (I'm 52 as of now), Sir Viv was a certainty. I had an option with Botham, but even as a kid in England, I was in awe of Sir Viv. Still am. Just for amusement - my XI :) Graham Smith Alistair Cook Brian Lara Sachin Tendulkar Sir Viv Richards Jacques Kallis Andy Flower Shane Warne Richard Hadlee Wasim Akram Malcolm Marshall

Excellent video, very well written and presented. What a player was Viv. His stats might not have been as good as some others, but he had that capacity to galvanize the crowd with his presence, and his stroke play and attitude proves that stats aren't everything, not by a long shot. Clearly the dominant batsman in world cricket since WW2.

I loved watching the Windies play the Aussies during the 1980’s and 90’s. Even though I wanted Australia to win I still enjoyed the contest that the Windies gave us. Vic, what a legend, the Master Blaster 😊

You tell the story well I watched that awesome foursome as a kid. I played rep cricket in 80’s no helmets it’s hard to explain to those now wearing helmets how mentally fatiguing high quality fast bowling was to face over after over. The 4 were all great bowlers wonder how well they would go now, one major issue was under 10 overs per hour. For Malcom M who came later was the best of them and the one who would have dominated even today.

Amazing video. I knew about the 1975 series from 'Fire in Babylon' trailer, but not the 1979 one or it was Windies' first series win in Australia. What a team! Undefeated from 1980-1995, IMO the best test team of all time. Hats off to the Champion players!
