Over the Top is a very cool spell to resolve, it's not that chaotic since every player resolves his stuff after another. But since our boy Calvin always has like 420 permanents in play, yeah it can get messy. But it's funny. As long as the group thinks it's fine, just keep on playing it!

Missed you boys! Also, got the tokens in the mail, thank you foilks. Edit: I finished the video, and I came back to answer the Over the Top question. I personally love when you make decks that are smarter than you. Tbh, watching you guys and interacting in the discord made me realize how much I love value engines. I built a Sefris deck because I watched you play Sefris so many times, and the circus that deck can produce inspired me to search/build decks that are smarter than me. Yeah, one could argue is a bit much, but I learned and entertained myself watching some of the ridiculous decks you guys have here. So I'd vote to keep the over the top BS, it could lead some other people to realize cool interactions and crazy ideas they wouldn't perceive otherwise. Plus, the atmosphere when you guys play is like a group I'd find at my LGS. The banter and all, make the over the top stuff exciting and fun to engage with.

Hell yeah, I love getting validated on my deck ideas. Also, probably accurate to say my decks being smarter than me.

was it just a “this guy is way too far ahead to win, so let’s scoop now” ending?

I could have done a better job communicating that; TTrgr had the win on board after the Over the Top

I haven’t watched yet, but looking at the deck list this isn’t the build for Caesar you had on your Trgrr profile on Moxfield. What made you change from a more token centric build? Also where’s Guy? I always enjoyed his decks as well.

There was a Warp World in the "Raining Cats and Dogs" precon released by secret lair a few months back. You know, the one that reads "overload Chaos Warp" and puts away everyone's lands before pulling out a ton more midrange engine pieces and mostly not changing which player is in the lead. The same card that almost always raises the question of "are you sure you shuffled?" when someone's best threat comes right back out. I was confused when I saw that inclusion in that deck without also including Over the Top. Personally, Warp World is mean, bogs down games, and puts peoples' lands back into their deck. yuck. Over the Top, however, pays off the players that can generate more permanents with more cards from their deck, still bogs down games, and doesn't mess with everyones' lands. There's an annoying divide of power level for token decks where they go from "10 1/1s with no text" to "10 4/4s with flying/vigilance/lifelink/double strike/etc." and payoffs like Over the Top give your tiny tokens meaning without them getting lorded into being 3-drop value by a few enchantments or tribal cards (at the cost of becoming a bit more combo-y). I wouldn't run Warp World in a wide deck, but Over the Top feels appropriate.

Big spells and big plays are what make Commander games fun. Keep using Over the Top. It's a funny card. At some point in any Commander game there's bound to be a turn where, due to interaction being a thing, you have to play it out. If anyone is to blame for a long turn, it's the other players not saying that they have nothing for it. It's for that reason that I am very honest once spells like that resolve, so the turn can move along and we can shuffle up for another one. Tbh, if they wanna stop playing cards like Over the Top, then they might as well pseudo-ban every other big spell that has a big effect on the game or just entire decks altogether, because I've seen some decks from various people on the Stack that do more for less.
@MTGTheStack9 ай бұрын
hear that, ajdin? they say they ought to ban every fun thing if we ban overtop. ban all fun, ajdin. wait how did you get behind me, ajdin. please put the gun down, ajdin.

I think the only time this is a thing is when people try to play with themselves to much that it is what the game becomes. It is such a common thing these days where the majority are building a commander deck without the thought of interacting being a key part of every deck(I enjoy watching them lose),please stop this and just build a good deck
@drakko959 ай бұрын
@@lolitacarrion4468 Majority is a bit of a stretch, and as far as what a "good" deck constitutes, that's up for the individual to decide. One look at the decklists shows that they were built with interaction in mind, not the other way around. It just so happens that this game played out in the way that it did. I'll say this again since it seems like I wasn't clear enough before, but the whole "playing with themselves" thing can be resolved by the other players just being honest and conceding at that point. It's not as though the situation we saw didn't have a clear end result. If it was just someone spinning their wheels while doing nothing to progress the game, I'd agree with you, but seeing as this game wasn't that, you're wrong.
