Patches should not have been Captain, broke his mind, too much pressure. Subban was never going to be captain, way too excitable. Markov should have been Captain, he was already our general!
@amsro9094

@Steven Pleky would have been fine too. But I disagree with your language reason for Markov, his English is actually decent. Here's two interesting quotes from therrien. "I'd prefer a player whose actions speak for themselves on the ice. In Pittsburgh, I gave the title to Evegeny Malkin in Sidney Crosby's absence. Not only does he speak very little, he doesn't even speak english." "I'd have no objection to seeing Andrei Markov become the next captain of the team. What you are looking for first and foremost is a player that leads by example on the ice and shows up every game." I still think with markov as Captain would have been the ideal future.

It's so crazy...has a young black man when I was at school they use to call me a negative leader just because i was questioning things when it didn't make sense for me. PK Subban in the comments is being called selfish and flamboyant because he has personality. Whenever a black man is not a yes man he's a problem.

Yep . I was waiting for the racist stuff to come in here - you must be a racist if that's the way you're looking at it - no team keeps him, he doesn't get along in locker rooms - has nothing to do with his skin color. It's the same thing I told my kids: A jerk is a jerk - it's an equal opportunity label But I hope you felt better pointing out someone's skin color - revealing the fact that's what you notice & your prejudiced! It's amazing how you people don't even see how you tip your hands - it's very offensive to black people that you're whipping out skin color when you're supposed to be judging people by the content of their character PK Subban has a well-known reputation for not getting along - but now he can count on snowflakes like you to give him excuses for his behavior.

You're a comedian! It was crystal clear that PK had already reached his peak and left it behind him by that point. He played two more solid seasons with the Preds after the trade, after which he was very much a has been, still in his 20s. Trading this dressing room cancer was genius and got Montreal a Captain with a capital C, to lead them to within three games of a Stanley Cup.

To bad things turned out like they did for PK Subban. He played with passion for his team in montreal I used to think what if they named him Captain of the Montreal Canadiens! the Buzz in this city 🐝👏 and also his wonderful contribution💲with his name if they had named him Captain mrs. It's no secret that PK's flamboyant antics weren't popular among the players in the dressing room. Unfortunately he was cancer and I was very happy to see him go. It was clear by that point that he wasn't going to get anywhere near Norris status. Interesting how that trade turned out, with Subban playing just one year more than Weber even with a four year age difference. Vegas is paying Weber until 2026. One of Bergevin's high points with the organization.

Pacioretty was not captain material and neither would Subban if he was named captain. Takes certain kind of temperament to be captain that I don't believe neither of them had. Being star player of team should not automatically make you captain. Bobby Orr as great as he was not captain of Bruins.

Let’s be honest , a management that chooses a coach based on the language he speaks over a coach that is better for the team says a lot. Subban was great in Montreal but he was too much for management too handle. There was no way in hell they would make him captain even though the fans loved him. Obviously in the dressing room , things were different.

Sincerely hope you are not a fan of this team. If you are, shame on you for not understanding the fabric and the history of the Canadiens. This is OUR team. Always has been. You anglos can root for it but you need to understand what it represents to us francophones. Plain and simple. If you’re a fan, go read about the team’s history, its debut. See maybe if there were another hockey team in town at the time. Canadiens means Québécois, hope you know that. French canadians used to call themselves Canadiens long before “English Canada” had heard of the term.

@@4inchesofpleasure “OUR TEAM” ..typical quebec racist comment. That way of thinking is why this city is crumbling and finishing last in economic growth. Do you know that English business men started the team? Do you know that English business men owned the team? Maybe you should re-read the history of the Montreal Canadiens and figure out what the hell you are talking about . The team is loved by both anglos and Francophones across Canada. You don’t have to be French to be true fan. Your statement is Ridiculous.. My point was not to put down any French coach but when a organization picks based on language as a first criteria , we as fans have a problem. French or English , pick the best person for the job, period! Since you are being a dick and say you know your history, let me enlighten you and all the douchebags who think like you. Of all 24 Stanley cups won by the montreal Canadiens, do you know 19 of them were won by English coaches? And ..almost all general managers from that era were English general managers. Look at the stats since serge Savard . How many cups ? Only 1 since 1993? How many were French coaches and general managers from then until now? ...Almost all except Bob Gainey.. It’s nice to love the Montreal Canadiens and have the blinders on. The real Quebecois Canadiens hockey fans know exactly what’s going on .we have been seeing it since 1993.. All others are too ignorant to admit it. Sometimes yo7 have to swallow your pride and pick the best man for the job. Even if he is English..

@@nickgritz1188 “A suggestion from Gardner that the team be named Le Canadien and stocked entirely with french speaking locals was greeted enthusiastically by O'Brien”. This is OUR TEAM. This team was meant to reflect francophones. And you think that an unilingual head coach should be behind the bench? “Off the ice, using his promotional knowhow, Kennedy helped ignite French Canadian nationalist sentiments, stimulating competition between his club and the Wanderers, which greatly helped to increase the number of spectators in seats. In essense, Kennedy, a sly Irishman, helped forge the team's soon to be termed "Flying Frenchman" identity. “ This is the history of the team you root for that you seem to ignore. I don’t have a problem with an anglophone coach like Scotty Bowman who spoke french fluently. And I wouldn’t have a problem with the Habs hiring a new coach who didn’t speak a lick of French but promised to make an effort and learn the language as a way to respect the fans, which, like it or not, are mainly french speaking. Marc Crawford did it in Québec. It is about respect. Learn your history. we are Les Canadiens. There was a very clear divide early on between the Wanderers and Les Canadiens. There was a linguistic divide. And cool of you to shit on Québec with your Anglo-centric imperialism. We are a fucking minority and we have a right to hold on to our patrimoine. Anyone is welcomed to join us, but who the fuck are you to judge how we do business. Fuckin’ A we’re gonna protect our team and be respected. Like I said, if Gerard Gallant is willing to learn the language if we hire him, sure, go ahead. Why not. Why do you root for the Habs if you hate Québécois and our history and pain. Pick up a book mate. Seriously.

If PK was such a revered guy, how ironic that he wore out his welcome in Nashville in a short period of time. Too much hype. Great skill once he made the team in Montreal, but he was not the same player (skill wise) in Nashville. I think it hurt his ego immensely when he was traded out of Nashville. To end up in New Jersey is kinda sad. I always thought he *might* come full circle and play one final season in Montreal. But not with Bergy still in as GM. No way.
