PK was like 5-10 years ahead of his time. If he was coming up now, wouldn't be an issue. And hell yeah, it was jealousy, it was Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat syndrome with Joseph and his jealous brothers.

PK was a Best Man at Markov's wedding, remains one of Carey Price (and his family)'s best friends... Has TONS of close friends in the NHL, still (Cam Atkinson, Roman Josi, most Devils players.) Seems to me the problem might have been Patches more than PK?

No question that PK is a great person. His personality is not that of a good leader. Unfortunately for Montreal, they didn't have a real leader who was able to work alongside him and create balance.

Bad management team and front office made little if any positive contribution to the team. Coaching was questionable... they could not accept that a black man could be a super star in a traditionally whitemans sport.

@@terrygoral2974 If he were black with a name like Louis-Paul Daigneault or something, he might have had a chance. But otherwise, you're right. The Habs would rather spend millions drafting the likes of Guillaume Latendresse in the first round than to actually build a proper team.

Being a great person has nothing to do with loving the spotlight, and it's true, PK was always in it or trying to be in it no matter what city he played in. I would say the city and the team brand would benefit, but in the locker room, his persona would get old quick.

The players picked Pacioretty and, no offense, he was probably the worst captain the Habs ever had. Worse by far, being trade out of Montreal broke PK's heart. He was never the same player after that. PK bled blue, white and red each and every game....no weak shifts, no minimum effort. We lost a lot when we traded PK and the only upside of Pacioretty's demise and trade was getting Suzuki.....now there's a captain!

PK was amazing his first year with the Preds. His health was also deteriorating. Patch was a better captain than Koivu. Take out cancer and it's not much different.

Dumb fans just think Koivu as some super elite player that was leading the league in scoring 20 games in or something. That's like dumb gas who think the EGG line was elite because had an amazing 5-10 game run 😂😂.

I don't get the hate toward PK or Patches. They were good players for us. Worked hard, performed, and never got into any trouble. I just saw PK interviewing Patches about his trade and injury. Of course it was a media event but there seems to be no animosity. In fact they seemed happy to talk to each other. Patches even said that PK knows his family well, etc. I think this supposed rift between them is totally blown out of proportion.

See, I think that's EXACTLYYYYY what Tony was referring to when he asked about the jealousy from PK's teammates. Pierre pretty much answered "YES IT WAS JEALOUSY" by answering something like "No, hockey is a team sport." Basketball ball isn't a team sport? I guarantee you if PK was Pierre Karl Tremblay, he still would have been a Hab. Im not saying it's racism, but rather "cultural conflict" Pk was a superstar in a conservative sport, and it rubbed the people who were trying to keep hockey the same the wrong way. (players, journalists, fans, etc)

Very very well put, i agree. We see this superstar culture in literally every other sport except hockey, ESPECIALLY when it concerns a black man… hockey is a conservative (and white) culture. The sport has to adapt to it though…

Jarome Iginla was universally loved by hockey fans, and a star. And Montreal more than most has had its share of superstar players, so I don't think either of your points are true. I think hockey loves team players and hates selfish ones, and PK was more the latter.

Patch is a patio star, a Prima Donna kind of guy, and PK felt he should have been the captain, not Patch. Both were unfit to be captain to begin with, so nothing but trouble laid ahead.

He didn't donate 9 million. He donated 1 million and rest were pledged and raised through his foundation (i.e. other people money). However, he never raised close to even 3 million. Still a lot of money, but to have the camera crew and news outlet for that much is ridiculous. Most players donate way much more and never heard a blip from the news. Usually teams will donate together.

Think about this for a second, an Olympic ski legend that was past her baby making prime would be able to cash in for life if she married PK. She declined cash for life....what does that tell you? They were engaged and all she would have had to do was get married and then divorced sometime later and claimed a portion of cash and assets or dependent at the very least. What did she see that was so alarming that she couldn't walk the aisle?
