I was raised JW but refused to go when I started high school - deep down I questioned its teachings but could never discuss it with anyone for fear of being shunned and disfellowshipped. They always stressed how armageddon was just around the corner and if you weren't an active member (which meant going door to door and following all their teachings etc) you would be destroyed with all the "worldly" people. They taught that Catholicism was pagan and totally apostate and basically they were the only ones with the "truth". As I grew older and started studying the bible on my own and researching the Catholic faith (I was always drawn to it for some reason) I started to realize how gaslight and brainwashed I was about everything I was taught about the Catholic faith! I've heard people say they had a really hard time converting to the Catholic faith but I was DELIGHTED to discover it was the true apostolic church founded by Jesus Christ - not some deluded heretic born in the 1800's with no theological training or apostolic succession. I was confirmed in 2016 thanks be to God!!

When I was a Protestant, Martin Luther was portrayed as the saintly, virtuous man who saved Christianity from an apostate Catholic Church , restoring it to what Christ originally intended. Now a few years into my conversion, I am astonished at the tremendous damage Luther inflicted to the cause of Christ. If nothing else, it sows great confusion, because when you see the many denominations, sects and widely varying beliefs, it can’t be what Jesus intended. There has to be a mechanism in the Church to resolve doctrinal issues and render proper interpretation of the sacred texts. There was and is such a mechanism, the Magisterium, because look what Sola Scriptural got us. In my humble opinion, Luther’s ego and pride resulted in the literal disemboweling of the Church by removing sacraments and books of the Bible he didn’t like. I 100% believe that many Protestants can and will be saved. Even the most devout Protestants will lament what could have been had they availed themselves of the fullness of faith found only in Catholicism.

John Calvin on the Sacrifice of the Mass: "It appears that the ancient Fathers called the Supper a sacrifice. ... Yet I cannot quite excuse the custom of the ancient Church. For by gestures and manner of acting, they outlined a kind of sacrifice, as if it were the same ceremony as there was in the Old Testament, except that in place of the animal bread was used for victim. Because this approaches too near to Judaism, I do not approve it." Baptismal regeneration and sacrificial Eucharistic worship are not even close to being "medieval innovations" - they're unanimous Christian belief from the beginning - and yet the Reformers still rejected them... along with (almost) everything else.

The generation speaks of their characteristics, not the length of time. The generation was wicket, corrupt, evil, perverse. Read the Lord's description of the Jewish people in various places. That is exactly how they are now. They are a wicket people, godless and back in the land in unbelief. They will continue in this condition right up until the time when the Son of Man returns to deliver them at Armageddon. They will look on Him and realise that this man is the Jesus they crucified and rejected. They will believe as a nation and be saved, or at least the remnant will.

I am a SDA, and have commented on this podcast a few times. I like watching Joe's content. I want to share some things concerning the SDA portion of the video. I don't have any condemnatory for Joe as he always seems to strive to get details right but even with that its impossible for him to know the greater picture on something like this just as it is for about some Catholic history. This isn't really a rebuttal but more of clarification from a well studied SDA. Concerning Hebrew's 9, all SDA believe Jesus entered a literal heavenly sanctuary after His ascension and began His High Priestly ministration, this did not begin in 1844. It is debated within the church of the movement from the Holy place to the most holy place is literal or symbolic, if the Sanctuary is an open concept or does it literally have two fully separated apartments. This is minor because the important point is too understand what began in 1844, the judgment of Daniel 7 and Daniel 2, which is completed in Daniel 12:1. Here is a list of mistakes the Millerites had that led to the false prediction: 1. The "daily" (sacrifice is wrongly supplied in dan 8 , 11 and 12 but they knew that, however they got the meaning wrong) 2 this led to a wrong understanding of the sanctuary in the same chapters. 3 this led to a false understanding of the event of the 2300, 4 originally calculated the 0 year so that is why they originally had 1843. 5 the 2300 is a yearly prophecy so it didn't need an exact day, oct 22nd, it only needed to be understood as the fall of 1844, so yes the karaite reckoning issue was not necessary and isn't important today either. 6 no one knows the day or hour passages. This was the most obvious error, however critics fail to realize that Jesus told His disciples numerous times about His death and they failed to accept it. This was far more of an obvious error than the Millerites as it was numerous times and they were with him in person, unlike the Millerites 1800 years later. 7 they didn't fully understand the parallel prophecies of Daniel. All of these study mistakes led to the failed understanding of the event. The event was not a spiritual return. Jehovah's witnesses make many second coming passages about 1914 and spiritualize those passages. SDA do not do that. All second coming passages will be a literal 2nd coming. Concerning October 22, Hiram Edson vision isn't meant to claim that the judgment and cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary began in that specific day. He only saw movement in the vision. The prophecy of the 2300 being yearly doesn't require the exact day, on the fall of 1844. I realize many SDA then and today believe the exact day is important but this is a mistake that should have been corrected long ago. The cleansing of the sanctuary is the final blotting out if sin in the books of heaven during the judgment. The record of sin is in these books and will be blotted out. The saints will go over these books during the 1000 years. Revelation 10 is a prophecy of the 1844 great disappointment. If anyone wants to study the entirety on the book of Daniel I can do so on zoom. I believe when seen in entirety the opposition to our belief on 1844 is exposed as error whether a person is a preterist or a futurist. In closing, yes they falsely predicted the wrong event but they all confessed it. Some went on to better understand the prophecies while others continued to predict future dates until they came to nothing, while others went back to the popular Antiochus Epiphanies IV view of Daniel 8. I probably forgot something but this gives a deeper dive into the issue. Blessings Corey McCain

The first SDA mistake was the attempt to predict the date of Christ's return. If only God the Father knows then any mere human attempts will end in failure. Plus, the "slice, dice, and reassemble" approach to Scripture is disorienting.

I think this is a really charitable and coherent clarification, and I think it’s great that you make it. I do think, however, that the larger issue remains, which is, why be a part of this group? It was entirely built out of this tumultuous period in New England when LDS and Miller and White were essentially making up new things from a position of not being very well versed theologically. It doesn’t make sense that Jesus would be so bad at setting up a church properly that he fails for 1800 years until Joseph Smith or EGWhite can come along and fix it for God. As a person raised mainstream Protestant, it just seems crazy unless you were just raised that way I suppose.

@@atrifle8364 This, alongside there fact that SDA's are very clearly Judaizers who just seem to ignore the fact we're not bound to a lot of the old covenantal stuff. EI (to summarise St. Paul) "you don't need to be a good (word that'll likely get my comment deleted) to be a good Christian". And Jesus' declarations that what was unclean is now clean (Mark and Matthew). The issue is, the SDA's just outright ignore Jesus on a lotta things. Alongside believing Ellen G. @@emilyzlockard from my perspective the devil knew the prophetic time lines of the 2300, 1260, 1290, 1335, were all coming to an end between 1798 and 1844, and that God was about to reorganize the church thus he setup counterfeits to confuse the situation. It worked well because he knows people don't study these prophecies. The argument of the 1844 failure by the Millerites is a smoke screen in order to keep people from studying the Prophecies of Daniel and Revelation. As Trent Horn wisely spoke in a recent video, "you lose, I win fallacy", is a fitting example of this scenario.

Joe Heshmeyer overlooked, or couldn't understand, the simple question Jesus' disciples wanted to know, "and that's not the only thing Joe overlooked"...That question is in Matt 24:3. The disciples asked him when will it be the sign of your coming and the end of this age.? Jesus gave them the answer in full detail. Jesus gave them signs, not dates. Wars and rumours of wars, Earthquakes in diverse places, false religions, such as {Catholicism, JWs, Adventists, protestism} etc. Famines and pestilence...Those signs have always existed, but in the last days, they'll increase dramatically. Finally, those signs will trigger WW3. and the Second coming of Christ {to clean up the mess that humans have caused.} and to save his Church as in Revelation 11". Not the Church in Revelation 17. That is the Church we know today as the Catholic church. The CC is doomed. "Truly I tell you, this generation shall not pass until all these things have happened"Matt 24:34 Those things haven't happened yet they are still happening. Jesus wasn't talking about the generation of that time. Jesus was talking about the nuclear Generation. That's this generation!". Only now the 2,000-year-old Prophecy can reach its climax. The prophecy is ready to be fulfilled any time from now on. All that is needed is for some dictator to start pushing down his nuclear buttons.

It seems to me that the Catholic way to fix this "wonky" interpretation of Hebrews 9 would be to claim, "Peter was the first pope", right? I mean, that's how the Mother Church fixes her wonky interpretations, isn't it? For example, we have CLEAR commandments of Jesus (the King) nullified by, "Peter was the first pope." That's how Mother does it. If it's good enough for the Mother then it's good enough for her children. If not, why not?

Is it your opinion that the Heavens have not yet been sanctified by Christ?
@GizmoFromPizmo9 күн бұрын
@@michaelbeauchamp22 - That's not why I made that comment. Catholicism has an out for all her contrary and contradictory doctrines. It's always the same excuse: "Peter was the first pope". Why, therefore, would it be out of line for any denomination to use the same cheat? Any time you don't like what the scriptures say then declare, "Peter was the first pope" and everything past that is adjusted to your liking. That door swings both ways. If your denomination has a theology that counters the clear word of God then you're engaged in the same scam as all those you find fault with. It's the whole "beam in thine own eye" scenario.

@@michaelbeauchamp22 - It's no straw man. You know I'm right. Mariology: Where is all that business in the apostolic faith? Nowhere. You can't cite B/C/V for any of it. All you get is some reference to some mysterious magical magisterium as authority. Okay, where is that specified in the apostolic faith? Answer? "Peter was the first pope", of course. You see, any and every theology that counters God's word is supported by the same trump card - the cheat that fixes. It's a get out of jail free card and it's played over and over again. A "Roman Catholic" daring to showcase the theological and Biblically un-based errors, beliefs and acts of other religious spinoffs and still champion your own questionable oddities is almost shocking. Almost. With the exception of Islam's 1500-years of being wrong (eh hem), "Roman Catholicism" has developed its own convoluted biblical paths for 1700-years. You shouldn't throw stones at wrong religious groups with so many paths prescribed by Roman Catholics on hapless and weighed down tithers to make membership in that club quite the dangerous choice. (By the way, Walter Martin beat you to the punch 50-years ago.)
