You should have asked for an Ulster fry. A full Irish fry is different from a full Ulster fry. No beans or toast with an Ulster fry which has the potato bread and soda bread. Some places in Ulster call potato bread 'Fadge'.

I’m from Ulster and growing up we ALWAYS had potato farl and soda bread served with our fry up. Soda bread is used for quick breakfast “roll” for workers and so on. It’s damn tasty and I worked in a place once that deep fried the soda bread. “Back bacon” is traditional but the fat should be crispy & rendered rather than flabby. The Europa and Culloden(Hastings group) all do excellent fry’s that have mushroom / butter herb mix on side. It’s interesting to see an Italian enjoying this, as it’s usually the other way round.

Mmm I'd say my top3 in Edinburgh would be 1)Royal Mile+castle, 2)Calton Hill, 3)the whisky experience. While for Glasgow I'd say 1)The necropolis, 2)Kelvingrove museum and 3) tour of the murals. But there are so many things to do in both cities, it really depends what sort of activities you typically look for, I'd have a look at tripadvisor for lots of ideas!

@@DanFandelli LMAO very true, I guess the gray sky and the music created a very...well...melancholy atmosphere, as if you were approaching a Funeral Home as opposed to a restaurant. But (as an American) I remember visiting Northern Ireland years ago and taking a bunch of bus tours, a couple older fellows took me under their wing and introduced me to the Ulster Fry. Love at first sight, let me tell you. A buddy of mine who lives in D.C. managed to find an Irish-American pub/restaurant that served the Full Irish after I described its wonders to him, but I don't know of anyplace that serves an Ulster Fry stateside.

Potato bread and tattie scones are basically the same thing in both countries, but what scotland puts out as a soda scone is like eating a bready frisbee. Soda farls back home are far better than the scottish ones.
