i played this track and the album constantly during the late 80's. it simply knocked me for six! I loved and still love the album sleeve and cover. Prince, The Revolution, The Time, Sheila E, Madhouse, Wendy & Lisa, Jessie Johnson, Jam & Lewis Productions! Wow! The Minneapolis sound was the great alternative to the mainstream pop of the era.

I always felt that the Romance 1600 album sounded a bit like a bunch of outtakes, sort of uneven and unfinished. Sheila’s next album was a bit tighter. Wednesday Like A River and Faded Photographs are execellent.

This and Screams of Passion was 2 of my favs from this album. But this was my fav. But we can't forget Nothing Compares 2 U I love their version WAY more than Sinead. It's more haunting yet beautiful. Sadly when I tell my friends about it, they've never heard of The Family MY Family owned a Roller Skating Rink from 1971 to 2009. You best believe I played Nothing Compares 2 U by The Family for couples skate when it came out BEFORE Sinead. At least our skaters knew who released it first lol

@@heatmiserscottyblazeOf course it was better,it was like 4 years before her. She didn’t even understand the song. And she did a karaoke of the song. Listen to hers, it is just like the original. Only the arrangement is different. She didn’t “make the song her own,” she sang it just like St.Paul.

This is an amazing song and far and away the best song on the album, which is otherwise middling. It has such a slinky, sexy, propulsive feel to it, which establishes a very palpable mood (like a soundtrack for cat burglars!). Clare Fischer's strings are absolutely incredible, creating a great percussive elegance that places this song alongside Prince masterpieces with a similarly dramatic and prowling arrangement, like "When Doves Cry" and "Thieves in the Temple." But the thing is, Prince didn't actually write this one--Bobby Z. did. I think it's ironic that the one song Prince did not write for this album is actually the project's best. "Screams of Passion" is excellent, but not nearly as compelling or accomplished as this.
