He did right by himself and his family and I am glad players have more power and control today in part because of him. I hope you can walk back into Boston and the garden any time and get the cheers you deserve. 💯

Shaw was such a good player in college. His UCSB team came into Long Beach (State) and beat my team. That's back when the that league (PCAA at the time which became the Big West) would put a few players in the NBA with Shaw being one of them. Long Beach had this guy, Morlon Wiley, that got drafted by Dallas. I was hoping the Lakers would draft him as Jerry West was there scouting the game. Lakers got him eventually and I've often thought he saved those Shaq/Kobe years by bringing them back against the Blazers. You always see that Kobe to Shaq lob highlight but it was Shaw that made that comeback possible. Portland never seemed to recover after that series but that team used to give the Lakers fits.

Even before adding Pip, 'Sheed and Rider stood out as the players us Laker fans came to hate with a passion but they also backed it up with very good play, looking clear alpha over Campbell and Eddie Jones who to me looked scared of one on one guarding Rider. Getting Smitty made it better not to hate them as much. But those Blazers were ridiculously evenly matched too, even against that stacked '98 squad. Sabonis was a legit long range threat at the 5, still a very new concept in that NBA era and it was always painful to watch him killing us that way. Brian Grant was very effective guarding Shaq and getting Shawn Kemp in return ended up a bonehead trade but I presume he wanted out to get his payday. But on B Shaw, I always wonder if meeting Kobe as a youngster while in Italy was destiny as B Shaw became a very key piece to that first dynasty and who knows who'd he'd have played for if that never happened.
@stampscapes
@stampscapes 3 ай бұрын
@@allclassallthetime4739 Yeah, Rider was a nightmare matchup for Eddie for some reason. Big Blazers team back then. I remember Shrempf coming over from Indiana and really finding his groove/role with that team. Sabonis really seemed to be the glue with that team picking everyone apart with his vision/passing. I always remember him standing at the top of the 3pt line. Yeah, Grant was a monster. Played great for the Kings right out of college. That one year when the Lakers signed Rodman, I remember when they played the Blazers and got spanked, Rodman said something like "I just couldn't bang with all those big guys tonight".
