Some of you don't know your NBA history. Brian Shaw is referring to the rule in 1995 that prohibited hand checking from the backcourt baseline to the opposite foul line. Iverson came into the league in '96. Yes in 2004 hand checking was removed completely, but the rule change in '95 was already prohibiting it much more than before, and that's what Shaw is referring to.

Ty lue & Derek fisher fouled the shit out of A.I the entire series. I remember a play when iverson got hit in the face, his head band was around his mouth & no call was made. After game Derek fisher ran all the way to the tunnel to give iverson his respect, then went back out to celebrate with his team. The 76ers couldve made the series more competitive if they wouldve made those free throws. Those role players were horrendous.

Handchecking was totally outlawed in “04” but they started calling fouls for it after the Rockets second title run which ran defensive players like Derrick Harper out the league. Teams like Knicks, Sonics, Pacers and Miami suffered greatly and tried appealing the foul calls to NBA office until it was outlawed completely in “04”. Jordan would’ve averaged 45-50 if it was outlawed before completely “04”.

@@dameianjones6641 Yes, this is what people are missing. Handchecking from the backcourt baseline to the opposite foul line became prohibited in 1995, which means that for perimeter players guarding other perimeter players from the foul line out, it became more difficult and more hand check fouls started being called in that area, which is what Brian Shaw is referring to.

Hand checking has been illegal since 1979 in the NBA. The league tried to enforce the rule in the 94-95 season, but since players were still hand checking due to the ambiguity of the rules language and refs not lacking consistent enforcing, the NBA finally eliminated hand checking in 2004. So B. Shaw ain't capping. It just wasn't enforced consistently.

Iverson doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Steve "Mr. Efficiency" Nash. And Nash didn't win MVP because of his _amazing_ ability to break down his defender one-on-one. He had no skills at doing that so hand checking didn't have much effect on his numbers. He won it because his passing AND shooting made his team much much better.

"that team would’ve been fine with any other pass 1st point guard..." Wait, so now JKidd isn't a pass first PG? Someone should probably inform the league office of this since the NBA website has Kidd at second all-time in assists. JK was there droppin' 10 apg with Marion by his side and they only made it to the semifinals one season and didn't even get out the first round the next. After Kidd left Marbury was there droppin' damn near 9 dimes a game alongside Marion _and_ Stoudemire and they still couldn't get out the first round of the playoffs. Starting to sense a pattern here? But the _very first year_ Steve runs the show they make it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Then, just to show it wasn't a fluke, he leads them back to the WCF again the next year. Pretty obvious who the difference maker was. "...if we being honest as good as Nash was for that team he’s also the reason they couldn’t win a chip because he was the worst defender on the team..." Do you really want to rep zero-defense-playin' no-chip-havin' Iverson and then talk smack on Nash for having the same flaws in his resume? And if you actually go back and look at those series (I was watching them live) Nash outplayed the other team's PG in pretty much every one of them, including Tony Parker. So, his marginal defense definitely wasn't the reason for them not winning a chip. In conclusion, Nash is absolutely deserving of _both_ of his MVP's. In fact, he should have won it a third year in a row because the season they gave it to Nowitzki, Dirk promptly punked out in the first round of the playoffs whereas at least Steve got his team to the semis.

Both of these stats confirm that he was just a guy who chucked it up a million times and I believe he's the reason they came up with the term "volume shooter". I don't know how many games I looked at his boxscore and he was 7-29 or 9-33...numbers like that and yeah he would score 30 but they were horrible shooting games. He had a TERRIBLE shot selection. Some of you just don't know your NBA history. In '95, they began to prohibit hand checking, by implementing a rule that said you couldn't hand check from the backcourt baseline to the opposite foul line. That's the rule that Shaw is referring to here. He should've been more specific, but to clearly to him it felt like that that rule change made it so that hand checking was not being allowed nearly as much. Then in 2004, hand checking was removed completely.

Yall stop it. Jordan nor Iverson wouldnt score 40-50 a night in this era if KD, one of the most efficient scoring machine ever, cant do it now. Yes KD, Jordan, Kobe, Iverson can score 40-50 a night if they took 30-40 shots a night and got 10-15 foul calls.

I also think Brain is mistaken. Iverson played along with all those other great players in that generation they played in the most defensive era in basketball. All those games if you were a teenager or in your early 20s and we're watching basketball, all those games were in the 70s 60s and '80s scoring wise. So no, they were still hand checking in 2001. I recall seen Derek Fisher do it on Iverson and Ty lue kept holdn him.

AI was the only offensive option in Philly. So he was taking a lot of contested shots. His field goal percentage improved when he got to Denver, since defenses couldn't key in on him with Melo being there.

@@KH-no7ph I wouldn’t say stopped, since he the defensive strategy was to turn him into a volume shooter, for the opposing team to win. So AI’s percentages suffered, also smaller guards that weren’t great shooters had lower field goal percentages.
