As a LFC fan from Liverpool, we didn’t have that much of a problem with Mcmanaman leaving because we were a poor team and we could understand why he’d want to go to Madrid. The biggest problem we have is how good we are and how instrumental to that Trent is. It’s not the money we’re bothered about. It’s the fact that he thinks Real Madrid are a bigger club. They were awful in the 70’s and 80’s and it was us that were the glamour club in Europe with the likes of Bayern and Ajax. If he thinks they’re better then he’d be better going there……and not coming back.

This isn't the late 90s when Stevie Mac left on a free when we needed to cash in on him. Football deals have changed - at least at clubs like Liverpool who now better understand how to properly finance the club and to manage players as financial assets. The club is being so well run that it doesn't cost us anything to let him go on a free. And it is better structuring player contracts in this way, than at Utd where you're desperately trying to tie down sub-par players on long contracts to protect their asset value, but then unable to offload them - Rashord and Fernandes. Or under Benitez where he wanted to sell Alonso (!!!!!!) to finance strengthening other parts of the team. Letting players run their contracts down has left us in such a strong position - Can, Wijnaldum, Firmino, Ox, Milner, Lallana, Keita.

No one is forcing him to stay, but you can’t have it both ways. Leaving for a rival European club, especially when Liverpool is once again competing with the likes of Real Madrid to dominate Europe, feels like a betrayal. Under Slot, we’ve rebuilt our dominance, and to lose a homegrown talent who could strengthen a rival is a bitter pill to swallow, especially for free. For years, he’s spoken passionately about following in Steven Gerrard’s footsteps and one day captaining this team. What happened to that ambition? Now, suddenly, he’s eager to join Real Madrid. That’s not the mark of someone truly loyal to Liverpool or a true Scouser at heart. Don’t mislead us with claims of wanting to lead this club while secretly planning a move to Madrid. If he truly respected Liverpool, the least he could do is ensure the club receives a fair fee, helping us replace him effectively. This is not just disappointing, it feels deceptive.
@kwanlinus69992 күн бұрын
He is clearly going for the money. Real is likely paying him at least 250k a week. Wage-wise, we simply can't compete. Tbh, it's much of FSG's fault. They knew Trent's contract was running up, they should've given him an ultimatum last August that either he extends or he would be sold.

How can trent 'ensure the club receives a fair fee' ?. If he signs a contract so that Liverpool can then sell him then he's locked in a new contract and the club can then turn around and say you aren't going. Not to mention the club that wants to sign you aren't going to be hugely pleased if you've just cost them more money and might turn their attention elsewhere and you would potentially miss your chance to sign. It's not the players job to run the sporting operations for the football club, if Liverpool wanted to get a 'fair fee' for Trent they should have been looking at moving him on when he had two years on his deal remaining. I think saying a player can't move on to a team in a completely different league without disrespecting the club, just because three's a chance we might face them in the champions league once or twice a season is a bit rich, it's not exactly like he's going to a rival premier league team where we are guaranteed to be facing them multiple times a season every season. And yeah maybe Trent did once have visions of leading this club in the way Gerrard did and maybe he changed his mind, players are allowed to change their minds. Also remember Gerrard always had unfinished business with Liverpool because he never won the premier league and you can tell especially in his later career that was his main objective, Trent has won every major trophy with us and there's really not much he's not done here.

Let me clarify this for those who are a little slow at understanding particularly the situation with Trent. It's not necessarily the 'why he's leaving,' (if he generally wants a new challenge, that's understandable by any sensible fan) it's the HOW! He's leaving. HOW is Trent leaving on a FREE CONTRACT acceptable, naively presuming Liverpool fans are gonna be ok with that? It's the HOW! Not the WHY! If Trent (a Liverpool graduate) really cares for his boyhood football club, LIVERPOOL! He wouldn't do this in this fashion/situation, that's the issue. He will already go down as the most gifted RB the club has ever seen. He would leave Liverpool as the most talented RB in Europe. He then would join Madrid as the most talented RB in Europe. If he was to go Madrid and play like he has for Liverpool then over the length of that contract he will go down as one of the very top Madrid players in modern era without a doubt.

He'll be in the same boat as Michael Owen. Disagree with the comment that McManaman is in the same situation - he was treated unprofessionally and poorly by the club and tried several times to engage them in contract talks. Owen and Trent will be seen to have deliberately wound their contracts down with no intention of signing a new one, costing the club a transfer fee after the club gave them their start - there will be no way back for such treachery!!

I'd be very disappointed if he left, especially on a free, but I could never truly hate him for it. Liverpool fans are generally very emotional, which is a compliment, but It's not about them or the club, it's about Trent. The fans & the club will go on without him regardless if he does leave & he'll be going on his own terms (because Liverpool were procrastinating while his contract was running down) to try & make his dreams a reality. I don't like it from a selfish point of view, but I couldn't hate him for that if I wanted to.

Let’s be frank… they are only interested in TAA because there’s no transfer fee! What’s this media obsession with Real Madrid… they only sign players on freebies. The only reason to sign for them is the huge sign on fee and wages… don’t go there because you’re wanted, they wouldn’t pay a fee for you and their outlay will be ‘refunded’ when they sell you… great business model though.
