Laura, a truck driver will tell you this. Never descend steps facing out from them. Always descend steps as on your combine facing the steps. You don’t want to accidentally fall forward to the ground. Always have at least one hand in contact with the steps or hand rails too. I was once a straight truck driver. 😊

Yep. Back when I was still driving, I once came out of the cab facing outwards, stepped to the ground, and my foot folded completely sideways on landing. Sheer agony and laying on the ground for a couple minutes in the yard (hoping nobody saw me do such a stupid thing). And that was at the start of my run... it was a long painful week with that damaged ankle. Never did that again. Three points of contact, facing the cab, always. 🙄

Years ago, we didn't waste taxpayer money on ethanol production. It does not make sense energy-wise. Also, it destroys countless small engines per year, and that not only effects the bottom line of common person, it requires more energy to be spent, and CO2 to be released.

Great that you have a hand held blower to get rid of the unwanted dust. I have often thought that combines/tractors should come equipped with air compressors, air storage tanks. Also, would be nice to have a supply of water and a pump in case of fires. Yes, it's more overhead, but saving that equipment from a fire is worth a lot.

Maintenance is the key to machine longevity. Consider the level of attentiveness that airlines pay to their planes, especially to the engines and hydraulics. Air filters are critical to airflow in engines and keeping them cooler! Blowing out the dust is essential to preventing friction and jams, and removing combustibles. Its great that you and Grant are so aware of the requirements for safety and longevity of operation. May that combine operate efficiently and satisfactorily for many years to come!
