My great-grandparents had a ranch and they had turkeys and pigs. I never saw it but my mom told me that when she was a kid she would watch as they ring the turkeys neck and bleed out the pigs. I visited once and remember seeing an armadillo in the bed of a pickup truck, later that day at dinner there was that armadillo meat on the table. Didn't taste bad, definitely tasted gamey. Thing is that kids do have the capacity to understand where their food comes from, they just view it as a natural thing.

@RodKruz as the farmer states, people knowing where their food comes from might actually persuade them to move away from a meat based diet. I personally prefer to eat meat, as part of a balanced diet alongside fruit and veg.
