Perfect demonstration of using a tension wire to support the H-brace. The only suggestion I would offer is to use the rebar on the upper brace as a tab to wrap and hold the wire. Leave about 1" of rebar protruding and it provides a very nice and strong tab.

Pretty much the same way I've always done it except I always used one wrap of 9 gauge. I wasn't sure how well it would work with the 12.5 but it looks great, and looks better to me than the ratchet tighteners everybody seems to be using.

I realize that everyone does it their own way.😎....... Just thought I'd add a suggestion... Besides the staples, my dad always taught me to cut a notch in the posts for the wire. It didn't have to be deep. But it helped keep the wire from wanting to "walk" up/down the post and pulling the staples free, as you tighten the wire.

First off, I love how clean this brace wire is! Keeps them well inside of where the electric wire will be running. What exactly are you referring to as "brace wire"? Is it just 170k psi wire or something different? Also, I have to agree with another commenter that the locking wire isn't really doing much. However, I think that by adding another lock at the top and bottom "Y" would definitely accomplish the locking effect. I'll be giving this a try pretty soon, Thanks!

On the final tighten, my twist didn't make it to 25 turns. It snapped at 19. My fault 100%. I just left it to the test of time, I'm not going to do it again. Mostly just decorative since it's only 165' and no cattle...fence is for keeping humans out. Thanx for the tips, it looks good.

Sweet. Mine is similar, but I use rebar to twist and leave rebar in to retighten on down the road as needed. Curious on how you tighten this up later on. Are you just removing the lock wire, twisting, and relocking?
@shawnpila
@shawnpila 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Yeah we haven't had to re-tighten anything yet but I would assume having to take out the "key" to re-tighten and then redoing the key to lock it all in again. Thanks for tuning in and any suggestions for improvement is always welcomed. Aloha! :)

Sorry, no. Don't place staples along the grain, angle them a bit in the correct direction. You opened up a crack immediately at the top of your post. You kinked and weakened the brace wire when you temporarily bent it back on the staple to hold it. When you tie off your wire, run the first wrap of the tail wire on the inside of the loop then the rest on the outside like you did and it will keep your join from slipping. Your "key" locks nothing, and you'll have to remove your "lock" wire to re-tension. You need a stick or piece of rebar that is held against the horizontal brace in order to keep the brace-wire from unwinding. Cheers!
