Hi Richard, your videos have been extremely inspirational and educational to me. They are one of the many reasons why I have been focusing a lot more on shrimp keeping. You don't find many shrimp keepers mentioning Otocinclus Catfish as a tank mate as a lot tend to use plecos and I'm so glad that I finally got to see someone else (other than myself lol) shed a little spotlight on them. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to seeing more videos and/or possibly doing some sort of collaboration down the line.

My second attempt at keeping cherry shrimps is much more successful and I now have some baby shrimps in the shrimp only 1 gallon nano tank. But I also have quite a lot of daphnia, cyclops, and a number of tiny hydra. So far the hydra has not been a problem to the shrimplets...?

I got 100 shrimps before. Around 17 of them got eggs. I wrongly introduced neon tetra (x11) to the tank, then I saw NO baby after 1 month. Now I have put the fishes to another tank, then next round I can see tens of babies happily growing up.

Thank you for this video! Excellent as always! I have just been away for a vacation abroad, and just had my partner coming to give food and to make sure everyone in the aquarium was doing well. When I came home, I all of a sudden discovered a lot of tiny shrimps :D I do have fish as well (Pseudomugil luminatus), but in my aquarium I have a lot of plants, and a root with a big hole where I've put a lot of different sized stones. That both make the root stay to the bottom, and provides a lot of places for tiny shrimp to hide. And of course there's moss growing on the root :D Because of your videos, I doesn't do much cleaning either. I try to keep things so well balanced that there isn't much algae growing, but of course there's some of it. I clean some of it from the glass sometimes, but otherwise? No. I make sure to test the water quality regularly and even though I never do water changes (just fill up when needed), it seems to go perfectly well. So, thank you once again for all your educational videos! I learn a lot, and I'm so happy that my aquarium seems to be fine even though it's my first one.

Hi Richard, I really enjoy your channel. I have a question about my orange neocaridina. My original shrimp are quite colourful and bright but my babies are very light orange and almost clear. Is there any chance they will darken to the parents colour? I have a few that are around 120 days and still that light transparent orange.
@FishKeepingAnswers Жыл бұрын
So without giving a long winded answer, you may find to keep a bright, colourful colony, you have to remove every shrimp that doesn’t meet the grade. I would have thought that after between 120 and 180 days they will be showing their final colours.
@michelleagius7352 Жыл бұрын
That is what I thought too. I have a much larger second batch (actually 3 batches hatched days apart) of babies growing up now. I'm really hoping at least some of them colour up nicely.

I first started with fish a half year ago. Watching some you tube to learn more about it. Came to your channel and i'm now only interested in shrimps. Last week i finally purchased some blue and yellow neo's. I keep them in separated tanks. I saw one yellow shrimp crawling true the tank for a couple of hours. Searched for it and i tought he was changing his shell. He was laying a lot on the back. Next day he/she was dead. The other one's are ok. Is it possible, in the future, post a video of some "strange" behaviour ? How to recognize certain diseases. ? Thanks !

I only have experience with deep red colored cherry shrimp. When they are born I can already distinguish the (lack of) coloration after 1 week. At least when we are talking about the difference between the colored and see through types. Distinguishing the quality between the colored baby shrimp however is not possible. They need to grow further for that. I oy have 2 aquariums. 1 shrimp tank and 1 Discus tank. I cull the discarded shrimp by adding them into the Discus tank. I thought they would die, but it seems that neocaridina shrimp can thrive in 28°C and avoid Discus fish with ease

The trick to feed natural protein to shrimp is keep a shrimp only tank and put in some daphnia. Keep the lights on to grow algae for the daphnia. The daphnia die and they become a calcium and protein source for your shrimp. I love experimenting with small selffeeding ecosystems (I do feed extra pellets or dead guppies from time to time or if I buy salmon slices for myself I feed them tiny bits of it or even leftover bits of Discus beef heart cubes)
