This was not the beginning of a culture, it highlighted the end of one. Street racing(which has been going on since the late 40s) has only declined since this movie, just as interest in all forms of motorsports is in decline. The younger generations would rather watch youtube or make videos for youtube/tick toc. Most guys 35 years and younger can't tell the difference between an inline-6, inline 4 and a V6. AND could not change the oil on a car or even check the oil level if their life depended on it.
@sir_christmas_leopold_duckson6 ай бұрын
@@spartanx169x It was kinda both. The tuner scene didn't really exist on the east coast before this movie came out. You are right, though, about the younger generation not knowing anything anymore. I stopped going to meets years ago now.

@@spartanx169x How much can an 18 year old afford compared to even 25 years ago? When I get my license I could have got a beater project car for a grand, how the hell is some kid going to do that easily today? The only people that can do this are either boomers, rich/upper middle class or people who dedicate their whole life to cars/wrenching and leave little room for anything else.

In the late 80's / early 90's I loved to do that drive on PCH through Malibu. Of course it was never that open (typically jammed up on a weekend). But at times you could open it up, especially after you get past Paradise Cove area. I had an 88 Acura Integra (1.6l DOHC, 5 spd stick) and it was basically a Civic Si with a bigger body. It was low and quick, and handled great. I had a lot of fun in that car (and a few tickets as well). I had more fun driving around the backside of Palos Verdes with all the curves, that's how I know the car handled so well.
