This is exactly what I wanted to see: a more "realistic" (if you can call owning a 4090 realistic) kind of benchmark. These and the 1080p "true" benchmarks complement each other, giving you a sense of how the CPUs truly compare against each other, but also what kind of real life performance you might expect out of them on your actual rig, in situations where you're more likely to be GPU bound. 1% and 0.1% lows are better though, and that can be significant.
@RobBCactive2 ай бұрын
@@jvlivsakamaxiaid lots of reviewer channels provide 1080p/1440p/4K data, just in a limited range of games to show the less difference a faster CPU makes at higher resolution. That was done ad infinitum to 5800x3D with caution on expectations at higher resolution. But chips like the 5800x3D have aged better because faster GPUs handle the higher resolutions better. The CPU test is about establishing ceiling framerates, to hit fps targets on later upgrades with later GPUs. Even then games are patched sometimes removing bottlenecks changing the "real life performance" available with a faster CPU and GPU
@jvlivsakamaxiaid2 ай бұрын
@@RobBCactive Absolutely. What I wanted to point out is "lower res" reviews alone may set an unrealistic expectation for uninformed consumers. Let's say "9800X3D is 20% faster than 7800X3D on average". Then you throw away your 7800X3D expecting huge gains, and are surprised by little to no improvement. Even with a 4090 you'd struggle to see a significant difference at this point in time. You'll probably need a 5090 to realize the full potential of that CPU, but then, why bother upgrading it now? Maybe when you get to upgrade your GPU, there's yet a new latest and greatest X3D chip. That's why both sets of data are valuable. They give you insight and the ability to manage expectations. An uplift percentage alone is kind of a liar.
@RobBCactive2 ай бұрын
@@jvlivsakamaxiaid well that "on average" depends on game selection, when x3D was first out a lot of game engines were bottle necked, including those would reduce the general performance boost, while excluding undersells the large boost seen in some games. I really don't need to see endless repetition of CPU results with GPU bottlenecks, referring new viewers to past videos makes sense. Uninformed consumers watching reviews are informing themselves, watching HUBs explanation of CPU game testing clears it up. As can be seen the comments people are drawing the wrong conclusions based on "realistic testing".

Got a 7950x3d for less than 500 when 9000 series dropped. Don't think I'll be upgrading until there is a 50% performance increase over that. I use process lasso to use the cpu the way it's meant to be used and have the gaming performance under control. background software assigned to the performance cores and game launchers on the vcache cores so that all my games will be on the right CCD.

Where's the benchmark for simulation speed on Paradox games? Or any other strategy games? People only seem to showcase these new CPUs for their FPS at 1080p - I don't play 1080p, but i mainly play strategy games.

Is there any benefit in me upgrading to the 7 9800X3D from a i7 9800k, if I game at 4k? I have a 4080 GPU and sometimes my CPU hit close to100% in games like Forza Motorsport.

@MrAnimescrazy thank you!!! I appreciate the response! I'm running on some what of a budget. So I'm making most of my purchases on black Friday. So I won't be waiting for any of the new drops. I'm going to go with the 7950X3D in combination with the 4080 super. I wanted to wait for the 5080 but if it's till going to be 16g ram I honestly don't care about the upgrade also scalpers are going to make it way difficult to purchase when it drops, so I'll be happy with the combination I'm going with since I know exactly what I'm getting in terms of price and specks.

Yay, a useful set of figures, thanks! Everyone else seems to be set on 1080p (or even 720p 500+fps) benchmarks which are no use to me whatsoever, I play at 4k and it's really helpful to know that the 7800 is just as quick as the 9800. I'm upgrading from a 10600K and was wondering whether to hold out for the 9900 or 9950, this suggests I'm unlikely to see a significant improvement at 4k gaming for the extra outlay so you've almost certainly saved me a couple hundred pound :)
@RobBCactive2 ай бұрын
You don't understand what the CPU gaming benchmarks are telling you. It's about telling you the ceiling fps rate you can expect with that CPU in particular games. So if you target solid 60Hz @4K then you can go to game benchmarks and see what CPUs manage that, in some games CPUs will struggle. If you want 120Hz @4K then your options are far more limited. That is a canary in a coal mine, especially when it's newer titles that need better CPUs than 10600K with a weak platform with just PCI3. You really going to run a high end GPU on PCIE3? The 3090 was already bottlenecked by that in 2020. Will future GPUs require a new CPU or is a 10600K going to see CPU bottlenecking more serious than that shown in this video. 90% GPU utilisation is only slight performance loss. The benchmarking was also compromised by using the AMD pre-install which is W11 23H2, when those reviewers who switched to 24H2 found a good performance increase in line with AMD's claims. What happens to your 4K gaming if you choose to use upscaling, then your game is working often at 1440p not 4K, many games secretly reduced game resolution for performance reasons then upscaled themselves, the manufacturers have improved on what was feasible for individual game devs to produce.
