Paul, if possible, please take a look at the I/O usage of the Corsair iQue Link software. If you use it to monitor the pump, temps, PSU, etc., the amount of I/O used on the USB subsystem may be shocking. As a test, try connecting numerous USB devices (e.g., high poll rate keyboard & mouse; HD webcam; headset; boom microphone) and load the system by playing some games. I'm just interested to see if you experience any USB device disconnects while loading the system.

hi i actually have this motherboard and wanted to let you know the slot you installed the M.2 into shares lanes with the GPU. The only Gen 5 M.2 slot that doesn't share lanes is the one directly to the right of where it is currently installed. I'm unsure of the actual performance impact of splitting lanes, but I wanted to let you know.
@waterproof_teabags35922 күн бұрын
Yeah your right m2_2 and 3 lane share but m2_1 is safe . Seems the Gen 4 spots not lane share either. Seems best way to go is a powerful Gen 5 and then 2 Gen 4s for extra storage.
@boukeelsinghorst484823 сағат бұрын
8 lanes pcie 5.0 should still be plenty to not bottleneck a 4090. Maybe with a 5090 you have to start thinking about where to put the M.2
@Zelb7521 сағат бұрын
@@boukeelsinghorst4848 The 4090 is a pcie4 card and will drop to pcie4 x8. It will impact performance 5 to 10%. With a 50 series card there would not be any performance penalty.

I just built a new system with that x860e-e motherboard too! I liked the look of the ssd heat pipe as well, but found that if you use ssd2 or ssd3 ports under that heatsink you will limit your very fast graphics card to pcie x8 instead of pcie x16. Better to use ssd port 1 - the taller heatsink with quick release to the right!

Hey, just letting you know. The slot you used for that M.2 SSD is actually slot 3. While it is gen 5, it will take away some lanes from the GPU. Both M.2 slots 2 and 3 share lanes with the GPU. If you want the SSD to have it's own dedicated lanes (and let the 4090 have all of its available lanes), you need to use M.2_1, which is the one on the right side of the mobo with the tool-less access. It is also a 2280 form factor. The way you currently have it configured will hamper the 4090. I just built on this mobo, and made the same mistake initially.

Great build. Small tweak IMO, having just built mine on same MB. For first PCIE 5 NVME use the one on the right / front (M2 slot 1). The two at the back will take PCIE lanes from the GPU slot making the GPU x8 instead (same as x16 PCIE4 bw though). Would be happy to get this PC for free!
@Reivbv2 күн бұрын
If you install Gen 4 NVMEs on those slots that share lanes with the gpu, will it still cause it to run on x8 instead of x16? Thanks!
@jeevana.63912 күн бұрын
Yes, the m.2 will be at PCIE gen 4x4 while the graphics card slot will be at PCIE gen 5x8. With any current gen graphics card, it'll run PCIE gen 4x8 though.
@Reivbv2 күн бұрын
@@jeevana.6391 I don’t understand why Asus chose this configuration. Why would you populate those NVME slots when it bifurcates your GPU lanes. 🤦
@jeevana.63912 күн бұрын
@Reivbv Consumer CPUs only have so many PCIE lanes. When AMD introduced X870(e) boards, the intent was for motherboard manufacturers to run the USB4 ports through the chipset, but every manufacturer has decided to use lanes that are normally reserved for a second, direct connection from the CPU to an m.2. For X670e, I know Asus split the lanes between USB4 and the second, direct m.2 and it led to issues with drive and the USB4 ports if both were utilised. The saving grace for all this is that when GPUs with PCIE gen 5 release, 8 lanes should be more than enough for even the top end GPUs since it's equivalent to Gen 4x16

Ah, yes that pesky glass panel retainer screw. There’s a trick to getting it unscrewed with ease. The most popular build I sell is very similar to this build. It uses the 6500x case. When the case panel is closed, the screw usually just spins and doesn’t grab. Try opening the glass panel then unscrewing it. Usually comes out much easier. Also, once you get it out, it’s easy to remove next time. Great content! Love the build and tech news videos!! Two years ago your holiday build inspired me to build in the Hyte Y60. And I still use the AsiaHorse sleeved cables in most of my builds.

Very sleek and aesthetically agreeable build, nice. Something bugging me though, at 18:42 - If I know my 3DMark, CPU over 60 degrees and about 50% utilization during a graphics test would have me investigating. And it peaked at 77? There's a spike to over 100 degrees right at the end. Not necessarily botched or anything, but I then wouldn't call the cooling config "overkill" in this case. It looks like either something was running in the background, or the 4090 _really_ lets the 9800X3D stretch its legs and just something about the cooling is off. Edit: not scientific in any way, but just for some reference - I just ran the same test with my 3090 ti and 7800X3D, scored halfway between the average and best scores, and the CPU was about at its typical *idle* temp of 35-40 degrees during both graphics tests. Also on an AIO.
