The Fastest Way to Get The Raw Mat Selenium in Elite Dangerous Odyssey

UPDATE - I went back yesterday and today in both Horizons and Odyssey and the drops were terrible. While I could still find Selenium its nothing like it was. The planets still say 5.6% Selenium but gathering it this way is no longer efficient. I guess Fdev decided to screw this up as well. Sorry CMDR's, we'll have to find another way to gather this mat.

Doesn't work this way currently at the end of Jul, 21. Selenium drops rare and randomly among more common minerals - 1 drop per 3-5 stones.

It didn't work for me, no idea if they have changed something, but visited about 10-15 craters and a good hour searching but no selenium, in fact nothing, since percentage was higher than I've seen before i was to say the least a little disappointed. I did however find mesosiderite on the upper edges of the craters, but again no Selenium. But due to a slight malfunction in my route plotting (went to SYNUEFAI CA-H C13-5 Body 6 D by mistake first) Doh! However on my route from there to the correct place I did some exploring and found a planet SYNUEFAI KN-Q D6-47 1D, with loads of geysers and furmeroles, and was finding plenty of Selenium there. So until a better place is found, that's where I'll go.

Doesn't work for me. I've been exploring 4 or 5 different craters, never found more than a few basic rocks, that dropped 3 seleinum in total over 2 hours. What is shown in the video (get out of ship and immediately find rare rock that spawns several seleniums) is fantasy. The thumbnail "crazy fast selenium" is clickbait.

You see me do it right in the video, it wasn't click bait but thanks. But as I understand it Fdev has fuq'ed things up a good bit so while it worked great a while back it may not currently. I uninstalled ED so I can't go check to verify. Thanks for your comment tho!

I can't find any rocks to shoot I see signals that I can follow; but they never lead anywhere. I haven't seen a single deposit in 45 minutes

On the wave scanner, look for 1 or 2 bars low down for natural features. Pattern is variable but wider when farther away. Key is to go to a body with a high percentage for the mineral you want. SYNUEFE CA-H C13-5 Body 6 D has 5.6% Se. eddb.io/body/17353008 Running around in a large crater reduces the wear and tear on the SRV, so you don't have to synthesize repair it that often. While you can get it from the 2 bar signals (bronzite chondrite) it's rare and there's typically only one Selenium when it does appear there. I recommend only chasing the signals for mesosiderite which typically contain more than one selenium within, tho there are no guarantees. This approach typically yields me selenium the fastest. o7

That is not a Selenium signal, that is a mesosiderite signal and Selenium is random in any rock type: Bronzite Chondrite, Mesosiderite, Metallic Meteorite, Outcrop, it doesn't need to be a specific type. Selenium is a RNG material present in any of the rock types. Depends on the position of spectrum, low signals are rocks/minerals, high are ships and outpost or crash sites. Selenium is only present at maximum of 4.8% in pristine reserves, because is the rarest among elements, so it doesn't matter the planet, no need to venture hundreds of ly out the Bubble for finding planets with 4.2, 4.5% Selenium. I usually find pretty quick the need and fill the other types aswell, depends on the planet, not needing to go always on Outotz Cristalline Shard sites. :) Problem is this Odyssey changed the way we even drive, the terrain is too bumpy on most planets, it makes very difficult to drive and the SRV damages pretty quick. o7

Scan that planet, it's 5.6% Selenium, it's worth the ride. The video points out its Mesosiderite, and while the other out croppings "can" contain Selenium as I state in the video the mesosiderite tend to contain multiple drops sometimes up to 4 which as you know is 12 selenium. I've done this on many bodies and this location has by far filled me up the fastest consistently. You seem very hostile, if you don't like this approach you don't need to use it. I appreciate this guide, but I just had terrible luck with those Mesosiderites. I could identify the Mesosiderite signal, but I was finding them at a rate of approximately one Mesosiderite per six craters. If I was lucky it would have one selenium, several had zero. Perhaps I simply had a bad string of bad luck, but at these rates I'm just going to go out to the crystal shards, load up with all of the other high quality raw materials, and then trade them all to the materials trader for selenium. I hope that someone else has better luck with the Mesosiderite spawns than me.

I’m guessing they nerfed it at some point because Fdev likes to make you grind, no shortcuts. I don’t play ED anymore so I can’t test it to double check. Sorry it didn’t work out for you!

This is exactly what happened to me too. In 3 hours of crater searching i found 1 Mesosiderite with 2 Selenium in it. The very last crater i checked spawned 4 Metallic Metorite but no selenium in any of those. 3 hours for 2 selenium is a grind I’m not willing to put up with. Farming crystal shards and trading them for Selenium would be quicker.

So all the haters: I just decided to check this site, flew 8 jumps in my aspx not even 5 minutes I found 23 selenium from the mesosiderite.
