Please correct me if I am wrong. Theoretically, if you chill the cloves and plant them in the hydroponic setup, you could repeat this, say every month, and keep harvesting every 100 days or so! Incredible!

Since growing hydroponically is faster you/we can be harvesting every 100 days into the summer if you start in October through August you can at least harvest garlic four (4 ) times!!! With this hydroponic growing method!!! Excellent job love ❤ your chanel 😊

Thanks so much for showing how to use a more soil-like base for the plant as well as the nutrient solution. I seem to struggle with other medium. (Yes, I may be a spazz.). This seems to keep the plant happy by mimicking it’s natural way to grow and solves the problem of watering, nutrients AND having an option to grow inside during winter months. Thank you SO MUCH for demonstrating exactly what I was trying to work out in my head.

I use a lot of garlic for cooking, so I'm going to try this method. I already have the Kratky grow tanks where I grow vegs. inside during the winter months. I'm curious when you placed your grow tank outside? Did you put the tank outside under the sun immediately after you planted the cloves in their cups, or did you wait until they sprouted green tops ?

Excellent video. Can you post a link to a video about making those containers and what supplies are needed? Rubber maid type containers are expensive. I have started 3 firehouse 5 gal containers with collards and cabbage. Also what are those pots called and where did you get them? Net pots can be expensive. As a senior on a strict budget I need to keep my growing attempt supplies at around $10 a project. My friend gave me some nutrient she mixed.

This exactly the type of set-up I have started experimenting with... A hybrid hydroponics/potting system for garlic and other "root" veg. I knew it could be done. The information I was needing was time for each stage. Hard to know what to expect when, when everyone else is either growing in soil (either pots or outside) or strictly hydroponics and harvesting the greens as they might with spring garlic, not looking for bulbs. It would be better if you change the solution water instead add more solution water, because if you only add solution water, you will get lower nutrient's ppm every time, and it affecting the growth. That's why the leaves turning brown and dry at early age. Garlic is a heavy feeder crop, so they need constant uptake. My simple method to know when to change the solution is using TDS Meter, if your growing solution 1/2 of the initial ppm, it's time to change it. If your initial ppm 1000, change it when it get to 500. Also, use that masterblend in generative stage (>50 days), for vegetative stage (0-50 days) use a blend that has 3-1-4 NPK ratio.

Question: I would like to start an indoor hydroponic garden. If I'm using grow lights indoors, I was wondering if I could use the clear, shallow under bed storage containers so I could more closely watch the root growth and the nutrient level. Is there any reason I couldn't, or wouldn't want to use those, other than cost?
@quaydvt7378

The only problem with that is that light exposure to the nutrient solution will encourage algae growth. Very simple to just lift the pot occasionally to check the roots.
@fungholio
@fungholio 9 ай бұрын
You need to install an elbow at the bottom of the container, then put a piece of clear tube on the elbow. Then you can look at the tube and it tells you the water level. Just cover the tube with black plastic or cloth or something so that light doesn't hit the water, then just slide the cover off to see the water level.

Great job! I never expected garlic to grow well hydroponically but you have done it! Some soft-neck garlic plants will split when it has been in the ground too long. The individual cloves mature and then start growing. I have also seen it when the bulbs are growing in rocky soil - I think there is pressure on the growing head of garlic so the cloves don’t get big. They split instead. Maybe try a slightly larger individual pot?

I know garlic benefits growing in cool weather but sometimes we have just to try and see how it will turn out. So, yes some set cloves are almost 3 weeks now in the fridge and I plan to sow them 1st of July. The first experiment was sown end of Feb (end winter to Spring) the temps here fluctuates from 55-80F and in Summer it get to 100-110F. We don't have a long cold winter.🌱🙂
