Awesome. Thanks! I'm going to try out the adjustment clip idea. Often times, my footage is from a camera so old that Resolve doesn't recognize it. Technically, it's c-log (from the first gen Canon R). But getting my clips balanced--and especially dealing with blown out or crushed colors---is a challenge. Perhaps starting with the adjustment clip will help. Thanks!

Great tips! That last tip is good but IMHO it’s much faster & easier to go back to the edit page & do a “copy & paste attributes”. With Log footage you can also apply the rec 709 lut on a clip or selection of clips in the inspector. I usually do this in my bin before I start my edit. (These tips pretty much all work in FCPX as well) Many ways to get it done.

Is there an option for an adjustment clip to only affect a certain layer or layers, or will it always affect everything underneath?
@TheModernFilmmaker2 жыл бұрын
That is correct, the adjustment layer will effect everything underneath. So you could put layers on top of it that you do not want to be effected by it
@mykrobinson60902 жыл бұрын
@@TheModernFilmmaker sure wish there was another way :) like when doing tutorial videos, for example and you put your camera layer above the screen capture layer, it would be great to be able to grade the camera layer with an adjustment clip. What I end up doing for my other channel (Let's Talk About REAPER, if anyone is interested in audio stuffs...) is to just do my best to grade the shot (not my gift) before cutting, since it's a single camera anyway. Wishful thinking, hopefully in the future they can add targeted adjustment layer options where certain tracks can be told to ignore the adjustment. Thanks for the response

I'd prefer to use group and timeline nodes. As with those you get the ability to add the nodes to a bunch of clips and can still modify one node to affect all in the group. And with adjustment clips the clips have to be next to each other. With group nodes you can select every other clip if you want and make nodes that affect only them, before or after the clips individual nodes. For example. Maybe there's a multicamera setup where multiple clips are from a particularly noisy camera. You can add those clips to a group. Add noise reduction with a single node for all of them at once before the individual clips nodes. Set that group node to cache the output of the noise reduction. And you can also add nodes that you want to be run after the clips individual nodes. Or maybe you have a few scenes that all need the nuclear blue day for night treatment from Fury Road. Same thing there. Add all of those clips to a group and put the blueing nodes on all of those clips at once after the individual clip nodes. You can then apply nodes on timeline level that will affect all clips on the timeline which is great for applying a show lut or maybe some film emulation that needs to be the same on the whole timeline. The main advantage there is that you don't have an adjustment layer you need to locate in the clip list and you don't have to update its trimming to make it cover the whole timeline as edits change timings.
