Well he’s an official character from the lore; Themberchaud, he’s fat because he was used as a portable forge slave by the dwarves and deliberately overfed so he couldn’t escape and would be easier to kill when he got too big to be kept safely.

Little funfact, the duergar (the dwarfs of the underdark) produce these dragons for their forges by overfeeding them so they can't move really. And if they get too big they kill them and start over.

@@Grintock DMPC paladin, probably at least level 11 so he can get natural smite damage without spending spells thus the nonstop magical goodness. This also gets him 2 attacks per turn in addition to the additional one for dual wielding (lack of damage bonus is mitigated by the paladin smit), saving throws out the butt and probably some crown powers that force everyone to target him. Essentially... he's a tricked out DMPC to deal with the obvious cinematic moment.

This reminds me of the dragon empress in the D&D webcomic Order of the Stick. She is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and since she heard that the bigger a dragon gets the more powerful it becomes, she is overeating to get bigger. :) Ep 719 and 754 feature her particularly.

Basically the Duergar (Dwarves that live in the Underdark) train young red dragons to be the heat source for their forges. They over feed the dragons so they become dependent on the duergar. However this isn't really healthy for the dragons so they soon become overweight and mostly immobile. However these are still dragons so when they grow large enough to pose a possible problem they're killed and the process is started again.

One of them pops his head out a ceiling tile from below, is kicked back down by one of the protagonists, and tries to jump back to the air vent and chomp the girl's leg off. It is almost 1:1 the same animation that is used in this scene with the dragon x)

To me a fat dragon is Alligator/ Crocodile rules. The fatter they are the more dangerous they are. A regular Croc or Gator Igor be scary but you don’t want to mess with one that managed to get a lot of meat on their bones.

The only part of this movie that didn't ring completely true to a typica D&D session is that the party is mostly human. If they had done their research, they'd have known that a TRUE party composition is made up mostly of elves.

I must admit, I kind of adore this chonker of a dragon
I waited for them to zoom out like Princess Bride style with the actual players lol. And whenever, the DM rolled a nat 1 gave the reason the fat dragon failed so miserably.
