DISCLAIMER: I am not a veteran or active service member of any branch in the US military. The reason for the use of Corporal in my username is that it was a nickname one of my high school football coaches called me, and when I was deciding on my username during my account's creation in 2012, I decided to have my username be a reference to my brief time in high school football

I forget the details, but Carl's Jr. Bought Hardee's, then left the brands as they were. There's a video by The Company Man that goes over it.

I was living in Meadow Lakes when Sonic was built. I remember needing to wait over a week until the hype died down a bit so the lines wouldn’t reach onto the highway

28:45 Permitting employees to take the extra food creates a perverse incentive. Instead of only making the food that is needed, the employees are unintentionally encouraged to make extra so they can take it home. By requiring extra food to be thrown away, you remove that incentive. I suspect that once that rule was put in place, the amount of food wasted actually went down (wasted in the business sense). Less waste means greater profit. From a purely business perspective, the rule change makes sense to me. Though I should note that I've never worked in fast food so there may be some relevant detail that I'm missing.

As someone who worked at a mcdonalds, the amount of wasted food that was thrown into the garbage was immense. When your working in fast food you always make extra weather or not you can take food home just in case there is a sudden rush. Letting employees eat the extra food that passes the 'fresh' time make the employees happier and incentivizes the kitchen workers to put fresh food into the order instead of the older stuff, which keeps the customers happy as well so they will come back more often.

Your assuming everyone who works fast food is a dirt bag and will take advantage of the store at every opportunity. From your comment, I'm guessing your management. Believe it or not, employees who are taken care of and don't hate management, will generally speaking, not take advantage of the situation like that. And with the numbers this company is showing, I highly doubt that's a problem. As counter-intuitive as it seems, spending a little more in one area can save you big in other areas.

@@johnediger7820 I wasn't assuming shit. I was talking about incentive structures. The incentive structures I described are a fact. The only thing that's debatable is the degree to which people respond to those incentive structures. And when I'm talking about people responding to incentives, I'm not necessarily talking about people taking advantage of the company (though those people do exist and it doesn't take very many of them to necessitate a rule change). A lot of people respond to incentive structures subconsciously. Let's say you have a good person who hates wasting food. If they're required to discard extra food, they'll be inclined (consciously or subconsciously) to be more conservative with their food production. If that same person is permitted to take the extra food, they won't be inclined to be as conservative with their food production because they know the food won't go to waste. Will this difference be enough to warrant the rule change? I don't know. I suspect it would vary from location to location. But the point I've been trying to make is that these kinds of decisions generally have a rational basis and are not founded on the irrational assumption that all the workers are bad people. So how did I arrive at this surmise? Did I base it on my decades of managerial experience as you assumed (the management part, not the decades part)? No, because I don't really have managerial experience (I was made a part-time supervisor for about a year at my first job. The entire rest of my life I have had precisely zero people working beneath me). Instead I based it in part on my study of economics, but more so on my decades of experience listening to my coworkers (and myself) bitch about rules and procedures only to later learn those rules had a good reason for being in place. And I've embarrassed myself too many times by making faulty assumptions about someone's motivations. So now whenever I hear someone bitching about someone else, my first instinct is to play devil's advocate, to try to find some reasonable basis for the alleged wrongdoer's actions. That's what my original post was.

@@gimiwanishkaa My sincerest apology!! I misunderstood your point and jumped to a bad assumption. I understand your point and agree to an extent. There is a subconscious incentive to over-produce. However my first job back in the day was at a Jack-in-the-Box when I was in high school. We threw out a crazy amount of food at every closing. We also had people who were practically living in their cars they were so far below the poverty line. It was really tough taking that big ol bag food out to the dumpster when I had friends who could only afford the absolute cheapest of groceries.

Have you ever considered reacting to Joshscorcher's reviews of MLP episodes? Several can be found on his main channel as well as his FOB Equestria as taking blank too seriously.
