@Hoch134 3 жыл бұрын
@@ausintune9014 I understand why they would implement that. It makes sense to filter liquids and air and those things act as a safety mechanism. My point is that they continued to use them even after experiencing many faults over the years. Many people don't know about these meshs and get problems with overheating components of the turbo or the engine itself. And that is not longer 'not considering' or 'forgetting' but it is basically planned obsolescence.

About the coolant reservoir: There are clamps to block the coolant hoses, if you work on VAG cars, these are your best friend in the world. By using those you don't have to drain the entire loop. In addition, believe it or not, there is actually a VAG specialty tool for.. well... it's literally a giant syringe to suck the coolant out of the reservoir. Also a VERY IMPORTANT disclaimer: When you refill the coolant after you drain it completely, you HAVE to refill it using negative pressure. Sounds counterintuitive, but it's the only way to do it, otherwise you are going to have air in the system. This is one of the ways to do that: Use a Venturi Nozzle to pull a vacuum on the entire system with compressed air. A T-Piece with a valve on each input will allow you to hold that vacuum, and a coolant container attached to the other input of the T-piece via a hose will allow the coolant to be sucked into the vacuum of your car's coolant system once you've achieved that vacuum. Sounds weird as f*ck, but you have to do it this way on many modern VAG engines, especially this one.. and it's also quicker than doing it the "normal" way, once you've made the tool. Edit: I just saw that you already addressed that last part in your video.

The first thing I thought of when watching this video was, "ah, so thats how audi decided to fix premature turbo failure that plagued the B5 series of audis" The reason those turbos failed was from the bearings wearing out from dirty oil, this filter keeps those turbos going. I dry heave whenever someone says “German engineering.” I’ve yet to work on a German car and think to myself “wow, that was an ingenious way to design that!” I always end up hours later, laying under it, surrounded by every tool I own, contemplating pulling the car on top of myself. One time use hose clamps, one time use bolts, hard plastic hose and coolant flanges that go brittle, “life time transmission fluid” that kills the transmission, electrical gremlins that break and fix themselves, etc. A famous German once said “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” I’ve only ever experienced that with Japanese cars.

I think the big difference is the "good for mechanics" engeneering and the "good for the customer who pays money" engeneering. Rich (german) dudes want cars that can do everything, are fast and comfortable. If you can buy a new Audi RS7 you probably have enough money on your hand to pay a guy to repair it for you. Toyota has a different approach to their cars. The reason you see Toyota pick ups driving on farms everywhere (exept maybe USA) is because they make cars that do the "bare minimum" (wich is still a lot) but if you break down somewhere yo can easyly fix your car. There is no night vision camera and shit in the way. And the dope part is, you can get Toyota parts everywhere. Sometimes they are even interchangeable between models. The customers are two different groups. German Luxury cars are for people who want the best car, Asian cars are for people who want the best car to work with.
@totalyep
@totalyep 3 жыл бұрын
Japanese cars are complex too, but they know what they are doing and design them correctly. Speaking as an engineer, it’s easy to make something complicated, it’s very hard to make it reliable. I find it so irritating that almost every German car, even ones you can buy new today, will be leaking oil from somewhere after 3 years of service. There is just no excuse for this.
