Wayne, great to see the conclusion here. We as customers spend an ungodly amount of money for these builds and we should get two basic things; a quality fit for purpose model AND great customer feedback/updates. Besides these Spifire issues, I’m particularly frustrated with partswork builds. I’m still waiting for a replacement Plinth base from Agora for Cobra as first one was broken, that’s been like 4 months. For Eaglemoss Ecto 1, waiting over 6 months for next build. I get COVID, but cmon, let’s try to get back to normal.

Thank you Wayne for posting this video & I am sure your dad will love having that now static model to admire. Thank you for being so honest about your build. I’m signed up for Ecto-1 ( waiting months for parts) and frankly, after seeing how noisy the roof beacons are and how bland the interior detail is, I’m debating on continuing that one. We can always trust what you tell us, and that is why you are my go to channel for they builds!! I’m sure your dad will love this model and it will no doubt bring back memories to him! All the best to you and your father

Considering the ultimate cost of this model you would have expected to end up with a fully working Spitfire, you might as well have built a 1/32 construction kit which would have cost so much less. Its outrageous that the company that released this model didn't design it to a better design before taking peoples money

I'm convinced that hachette must of known about the problems as they built a prototype for the first ever advert. All they seemed to be interested is getting your money. Personally I had one part that had to be replaced which I had no trouble getting from them( within 2 weeks) and I must of been one of the lucky ones as I had no issue with fit, or colour mismatch bar the pilot hatch not being correct colour inside. Just waiting for the power mod now.

You should buy the new Airfix 1/24 Sptifire for a fraction of the price and give it to your dad. I think it isn't much more than £100 and full interior detail. It was supposed to be released this summer I believe.

Glad to see other people have issues with models, I built two large scale Japanese locomotives the 50 and 51 and the build went well from start to finish however on both of those within minutes of completion the drive trains locked up. All down to one very small screw that spins easily off a small cam. Purely a design fault so I have two static models with neither able to turn their wheels.
@twigwonderkid2 жыл бұрын
Wayne, you summed that up perfectly. It’s exactly my thoughts. The model is really lovely. The electrics and base are horrible. I’ve fixed the gaps and am so pleased with that. I had to glue with araldite the sides as the tail was so heavy and was leaving a gap at bottom of sides and wing root The front dropped so I have glued the two engine struts to firewall and then the firewall to the mount over the gearbox as the back of firewall should be flush to that mount and that removed the gap forward of the cockpit There is a bigger issue one guy Alex found and that’s the brass screw falls out in the lifters. If you check how this is built there is an issue there right enough. What can happen and has happened to Alex resulting in his plane crashing onto the deck breaking the plane and more importantly the propellor. So the Perspex rods sit on a plastic bottom and this sits on the screwed rod, held in place by the brass nut. As the plane is heavy the plastic departs from the brass nut, leaving the nut at the top of the screwed rod and the whole perspective rod falls to the bottom crashing the plane.

This is definitely a humbling hobby sometimes. And it sucks that this went so horribly wrong. Makes you wonder if they maybe didn't put this thing through full testing before putting it into production. I mean, it worked in parts when you tested them out, but it's different testing individual sections versus the whole thing. Anyway, it still looks nice, and you dud everything you could. Without driving yourself completely mental, you put together a nice model. Your father will love it.

In many ways, beside the fact that I have no space for displaying models in my house, this is why I'm reluctant to invest such a large amount of time and money to build these models. While I'm sure the building experience is worth it, if by the end of it the model doesn't meet all expectations, it can feel like a huge waste of resources and I'm sorry this model hasn't been up to standards for you. It sure looked good when it was first announced, and at the time I was hoping you'd also be doing the full diorama with the figures but I'm glad it's done to a point where your dad can enjoy it and you can move on to more interesting projects.

That’s a real shame, Wayne. I feel like this is the problem with subscription builds is that you don’t see problems in ramped up production until it’s out in the wild. Luckily DeAgostini has a couple of R2 runs under their belt, so no problems there as of yet for me. But KITT is coming to the US soon and I’ll be watching both builds with anticipation!

Wondering why the prop is in the feathered position? Was that a flaw in the model? Just looked to be sure, and as is the case with most piston single-engine airplanes, there was no way to feather the actual Spitfire prop. Certain single-engine turboprop designs allow for feathering, to reduce windmilling drag in case of a power loss . And of course, multi-engine propeller airplanes require feathering ability, same reason.
@WorldofWayneUK2 жыл бұрын

@andrewcutts31972 жыл бұрын
The thing that put me off the build to start with, is the fact that there only seems to be one photograph of the particular Spitfire that was chosen. It shows an earlier ‘pole’ radio aerial, internal rear-view mirror, and if you enlarge the photo, what looks like a duck-egg blue or silver port undercarriage door. That’s not to say that this particular aircraft didn’t go in for servicing and upgrading at a later date. I would have preferred a straight build with opening panels on the wing to expose the Browning machine guns. Do you think that the specs for this model were a tad over-ambitious? At least you’ve got a nice model there for your dad.
@adrianabbott46232 жыл бұрын
What a shame. I can understand your frustration though, as a previous comment said - we spend a considerable amount of money on these models and expect parts to fit properly and working parts to actually work properly! It has really put me off buying one of these - I'll stick (sorry, pun) to plastic. I do hope your Dad is happy though.

I have only done one part works model. The Shelby Cobra. When that was completed, I could not get the headlights to work. Wayne did try to help me with that problem (thanks buddy). But I could not get them working. Now Wayne has had problems with both the Enterprise build and the Spitfire. If that Spitfire was mine, I would be demanding all my money back. I will not be building another expensive partworks model again for sure. I am building the 1/32 scale Tamiya Spitfire at the moment. Assuming I get it painted well, it will look far better than this thing.

Hi Wayne. As I said before this model should have come with a mental health warning. the electrics on mine started to work then gradually a number stopped. I used the Power Mod from Partworks Upgrades which does work a treat, it's just the internal stuff that fails on the Hatchette side of things. I have decided to continue with the ground crew parts and have put model railway grass sheets on the base and will turn it into a diorama and use as a static display. It is a shame as it was a costly kit and a let down to be honest. I am sorry now that I didn't go for the Zero as my Agora kits have all been good to date. Anyway thanks for the Spitfire build series and here's to following you with more.

Thanks for the video Wayne and we all share the disappointment when it doesn't turn out the way it should especially with the amount of money these models cost . I'm building the Routemaster which is brilliant but I'm also building the Leopard which I can't help feeling may also be disappointing when complete. The Leopard is different to all the other models as it is supposed to be a full working RC model as apposed to a static model with working features. The suspension arms for example should be metal and not plastic as there is far too much flex in them and to have the road wheels running on those plastic axle shafts and held on with self tapping screws is crap. The metal and rubber tracks are brilliant so why spoil it with rubbish wheels and suspension. This Leopard has two other competitors from Tamiya and Hen Long. The Tamiya is a similar price but it has a metal chassis and suspension arms, The Hen Long is half the cost ready built but there are a lot of upgrades to full metal, When we got issue one with that metal turret and tracks I had high hopes but since then I've lost some heart in the build. I hope the gearbox doesn't have plastic gears in it when it comes.

It really is disgusting how some of these builds end up and people wasting hard-earned money. Plugging and unplugging on my Ecto-1 has caused issues because on one of the tiny plugs doing this has bent the wires (the two prongs) and I can't connect two sets of wires now. I don't know why they tell us to join when we are going to have to separate later on. But back to The Spitfire and it's sad what has happened for the reason you especially were building it.
