When my harshest Drill Instructor handed me my Eagle, Globe and Anchor; I cried. That was an authentic feeling. In USMC boot camp you ‘lose’ your personal identity and refer to yourself only in the 3rd person as “this recruit” or “recruit so and so.” Until that fateful day, when you finally become an individual again. But this time, you’re a United States Marine. As challenging as that was at the time, it was easier than integrating my Anima which I’m only beginning to do, about a year after being rejected by a woman I projected my Anima on. I became obsessive, saw synchronicity all over when I met her and afterwards. I got tarot readings... the whole mess. Anyway I’m glad I found this channel. 😄

Deeply moving. Your’e grace and wisdom to reveal your humanity is another reason I was instinctively drawn to your work. When I first came across your videos I saw real people who had lived and had real applied intelligence. Increasingly rare, especially in this field. Thank you all again for your important work.

My father ran way before I was born. I had a few mentors along the way, but never really felt confirmed as a man. I have a vivid imagination and over the past 10 years I've been honing my ability to have lucid dreams. There's always a particular woman in my dreams that shows me the right path. At one point she granted me my own version of Excalibur, so to speak. After that I felt responsible for my own actions, I felt like a man. I've come to think the woman in my dreams is my Anima and every time I follow her wisdom I feel more in touch with who I can be.

Toxic masculinity be a byproduct of faulty culture. The man shouldn't have apologised for crying. It is a liberating feeling to see older males be vulnerable. It is so uncommon in my life that basically saw a unicorn. It makes me realise that structure is important in one's formative years, as principle. How one's life goes is the details. It also makes me realise a feeling of safety and stability in these formative years are important to how brave and Liberal one becomes in life and that it is only absolutely necessary until it is time to leave the nest. This was an insightful video. Thank you for doing the dirty work so we can put the gloves on when we eventually deal with it.

For years, I've watched these videos from the shadows. I haven't commented on any Jung To Live By videos in all that time because listening is enough for me. But after watching this, I need to say, thank you. My relationship with my father is very complex and these are helping me to reflect and ultimately grow into the man I was born to be. What a journey it's been and will always be. Thank you all for your role in that, and thank you for sharing yourselves with those of us who can appreciate it.

Thank you for sharing. For the unconfirmed man, a male mentor is a true gift of God. A second chance to regain that masculine identity. Those emotions come from a deep place where the soul knows how much it needed that affirmation and guidance. You got me to connect with those feelings of my own, thank you. It's powerful.

This is amazing! I find your videos quite refreshing and entertaining, especially in the terms of sharing such experiences. I've even started to understand what should be done and what should I experience. You know, at the same time, I tried to do the same thing, like sharing experiences with others and those acts helped me. Eased my tension and at the same time leaving with the feeling that it's time to go to the next level, metaphorically speaking. Your materials are quite unique. Really a treasure for me.

My father was always too kind too giving and at the same time raised us in a house full of trash, the worst hoarding I have ever seen. This was confusing for me along with my mother re marrying over and over again. My idea of a father as a kid was a confusing one. It can be corrected as long as we are aware of what we are missing. It pains me to see this man cry about how is past effected him. I am facing harsh judgments at the time that I just now discovering myself. I agree at the end of you can help Somone grow you should, the world is full of evil. We need more willingness to help

Crazy to hear you mention Robert Bly at 13:05. I actually went to the Minnesota's Men's Conference (founded by Bly) last year and it felt exactly how you described: pleasant, yet artificial. There was something cathartic about being around other men, but at the same time, it felt forced and not as fulfilling as I'd hoped

Hi. Thanks so much for your content. I have a 13 year old son and would like to do some sort of initiation with him. Do you have any suggestions? He is artistic and enjoys the outdoors but spends a lot of time playing video games and not a lot of time with his peers right now (due to COVID and also that he is a bit shy and introverted). Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Really live your discussions. Thanks so much.

Hi kyle sturrock, many thanks for your kind comments. If he likes the outdoors and is also creative and into imagination (via videogames) something that combines the outrdoors and a creative moment connected to a natural environment, that involves privacy (you and him) and a meaningful but not too contrived 'moment', is what I'd suggest. Kindest regards, Steve,

All of this can be corrected. This culture doesn’t breed these types of teachings. This is a strange period of human history to be borne into. It’s a lost generation but those who know they are lost are the ones doing the work and mediations to be found and we need more people knowing what kind of world we live in

First ... I have to thank you a lot for this ! I find this soo useful Second ... i have a few questions : Can we confirm ourselves by ourselves ? Do movies and tv shows help ? What to do when we are on our own ? No peer group and no active father figure ? + Toxic culture in which the elders themselves are divided against each other ... Iam kinda lost
@JungToLiveBy4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mik Halabi, many thanks for your contribution, and your kind words. In the circumstances you describe, its is necessary to fall back on our own resources - and these are best found outside of ego-consciousness. It is possible to relate to a Jungian notion of the 'Self' as in the second centre to the personality, but, the problem with that is abstraction away from a lived and natural experience. A connection to instincts will be best, as these will configure the right path for you - that's their purpose. Navigating yourself out from the circumstances you presently find yourself in will change your 'configuration' from one that reflects a past adaptation, to the telic goal of your personality. Kindest Regards, Steve,

I think you miss understand what Robert Bly was saying, he was not trying to bring back the patriarchy or rituals to initiate men. You said that feeling is a doorway to instinct and you quoted C.G Jung” You never become conscious until you can separate yourself from the psychology of your parents”. Just like you Bly said that man’s grief is a door to man’s feeling, over time, men lost touch with what Bly calls 'the male mode of feeling'...'something that gives the son a certain confidence, an awareness, a knowledge of what it is to be male.'" Until he hadn’t gone into the grief of his father, he didn’t have access to the feeling to do that he had to ascend as he describes it into the horizontal. One of his approach in doing so was using poems and stories and in someway this movement was very similar to the movement around Jordan Peterson. I only wanted to point to Bly because of similarities in your discussion and I think he does a better job than Peterson.
@JungToLiveBy4 жыл бұрын
Hi again Gunnar Omarsson, many thanks. I'm very aware of Robert Bly's work and have been since the 1980s. The context of my remarks, is important, and has to do with pseudo or contrived rituals, that are ineffectivfe, becuae they have to be repeated. A true transformation does not require repetition. This isn't at all to say that Bly works like that, but, to point out that a great number of young men today go into 'repetition-compulsion' mode, over 'ritual', because there is no transition from one state to another, only the attempt to repeat the 'error'. To understand this its iomportant to understand the neuroscience of affect, and how the brain forces sich repetition when 'prediction errors' have ocurred. I'd recommend the work of Mark Solms to get an angle on this. Kindest Regards, Steve.
