In high school, we had a priest for a teacher and we were talking about our favorite TV Shows in class one day. He went on about how he loved Blackadder and thought it was the best show in the world. He was laughing and quoting his favorite lines from Blackadder. I asked him if he ever saw Father Ted, the smile ran away from his face and he suddenly became very serious, he gulped and said "Yes, yes I have" and then quickly changed the conversation. I always think about that whenever I watch the show.

I need to say this somewhere, and this seems like the best place. I was sent to Ireland (Republic thereof, obv) several years ago on a work trip, and my birthday happened to fall in the week I was there. I begged for a couple hours off to go see the Father Ted house for a gift... just for a look, even. Well I got my wish even though it was a couple hours' drive, and my cabbie, John, who'd been contracted by my company to look after our transportation needs for the week, could scarcely believe I - an American girl - even knew wtf I was talking about (but my mother somehow raised me on British and Irish comedies because she's fucking funny, so I did indeed know). He told me he'd mentioned to his wife the night before what he'd be doing that day - taking some weird crying embarrassingly excited random ass American to *the Father Ted house* - and he said that she replied with "it's a shame Dermot Morgan didn't live to see this day!" It's been nearly ten years and I still have the photo of me nearly 50 yards off but distinctly AT the Father Ted house, and genuinely leaking tears of joy, as my profile photo in several places!! Ireland is such a lovely place full of such lovely people.
