The movie is basically Mean Girls in a period drama, with higher stakes. Having seen the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It illustrates how disingenuous people are. The movie highlights how, those who are the most fixated with the outward appearance of propriety and those who are a stickler for formality, are generally the most depraved.

What makes a film like this better on the big screen? Does it have stunning cinematography or something?
@hippocheese146 жыл бұрын
@@titusorelius9458 I saw it in theaters and there isn't anything about it visually that makes it better on the big screen. There is however a lot of classical music, if that's your thing.
@brianwilliams40336 жыл бұрын
@@titusorelius9458 It's not so much that the cinematography is 'stunning'... but it's very unique. It's unmistakable the choices they make in lenses and shot blocking. It's almost disorienting in a way, but it's consistent with the tone and theme of this movie. I'll put it to you this way: for a moment there, I thought I was watching a 3D film.

Just saw this today. Excellent! Dig the director’s other outings, but the stilted dialogue got a little same-y, so to see his visual style applied to an extremely emotional film did wonders for me. Little to no difficult deciphering the lines due to dialect (The VVitch was a tricky theater experience for that reason), amazing costume design and sound editing, lovely soundtrack and killer performances all around. Better Than Sex for me too, y’all!

I knew most of what would happen but it didn’t matter. The alleged lesbianism has also been debunked and that also didn’t matter. The script and performances made for a really great film.

Does that mean the homo-erotic subtext in the full trailer is also in the final cut of the movie, or even leads into an explicit homosexual angle to the story? I was hoping so as professional rivalry and backbiting between members of a royal court would not be an engaging plot for me unless the hostility gets highly personal in some way or other.

Yorgos weirdness is a disguise for emptiness of substance. Not only is this a total bastardized version of history, there is not one character who acts morally, who appears to have any sense that anyone ever acts morally, who shows any kindness, true courtesy or respect for anyone else. At every opportunity, spite, corruption, sensual gratification as a major motive in life with a complete lack of moderating reason is put before us. I am aware I will be told don’t I understand irony or satire. I reply that I can recognize when a pretense of satire is used to as a cover for rottenness. But this is typical of his work. Poor Things was vacant of a well developed narrative as well. He consistently presents heavy circumstances in a story that in no way attempts to support the weight of such moments. It's as if we are just suppose to accept everything simply because it's strange or shocking through a filter of camera angles and decorative scenery ! Most of it just seemed ludicrous.

I just saw "The Favourite" today, and I was utterly bored. It was the dullest movie that I saw in 2018 (and I'm stating this on December 31st). If someone had told me that I would be bored and frustrated by a period piece dark comedy film that has a lesbian power struggle love triangle, abundant frontal nudity and sex, intense classical music, political backstabbing as well has men wearing high heels of the 18th Century that starred Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, then I would have called that person an idiot and laughed in his/her face. I also would have been terribly, terribly wrong. I hated the movie. I hated it, hated it. hated it. I saw naked boobs and I was bored. How is that even possible?!
