0:28 Queen Anne's life really was tragic. Between 1684 and 1700, she was pregnant seventeen times. 12 of the pregnancies ended with miscarriage or stillbirth. Four out of her five liveborn children died before the age of 2. Her only surviving child was sickly and died at the age of 11. And she outlived her husband as well.

No, that was Queen Mary. Anne's pregnancies were all real.

@@Aqquila89 They were real but failed. She might have some illness or genetic problem, or maybe it was a side effect from smallpox... there are many theories but the point is everyone she loved died way before her. In later years, her health started to fail and yes, her life was sad and tragic though she worked her best to be a good ruler.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like period pieces just as they are. One of my favourite genres in fact, as I am a massive and possibly clinically obsessed history buff. But I also like when these films throw in anachronistic twists, if they are done well. (Like Kate Beckinsale's character in the recent Love and Friendship.) If they are not done well...blech.
@ThePaganSun6 жыл бұрын
+valar Oh, I see. Yeah, you have a good point. If period pieces do have a slightly modern spin, they have to be done right and make it feel seamless. Otherwise, it would just be jarring and wouldn't work.
@squamish42446 жыл бұрын
One that I like a lot that divides people is the 1999 Mansfield Park. Partly this is because it looks at what was Austen's time was actually like outside of her narrow POW. (Although there's nothing wrong with that, of course.) Another is because the actual character of Fanny Price in the novel is just not that interesting a person, and taking Austen's actual letters and splicing them into the text was brilliant, I thought.

I love Emma Stone; I thought she was great in "La La Land", "Birdman", "Battle of the Sexes" and other films of that sort. Having said that, though, she does have a very modern look and I'm not sure that fits well with this time period. Not quite Matt Damon in Great Wall, but close to it.

And to be clear, I still think she looks good in this. Stone continues to be a very interesting actress for me in that she seems to be taking more risks, and playing to her range in the best possible way. I hate when they cast modern-looking actors, but I always can't help but wonder, what exactly makes them look modern? Did they not descend from the people portrayed in these movies? Maybe they are mixed race which made them look different from people back in the day who mostly married within a race? Or maybe they're very thin which was not the standard of beauty at the time and wasn't too common? I'd love to know the answer to this
