My mother comforted me with food, mainly sweets. Perhaps s.t. she bribed me too, I can't remember. That was back in the 50s and 60s when the harmful effects of sweets were less well known. However, I can bear witness that this sets you up for lifelong comfort eating. By God's grace I am only moderately overweight, not obese.
