I grew up being "bribed" with food. I'm 20 now and recovering from an eating disorder. Any unhelthy relationship with food is dangerous. This was painful to see

My mother put food in front of me but I didnt like it so she took it away and reheated it the next day, as I went half the week without eating as soon as I had money to buy my own food (aged 16) I started hoarding food in the wardrobe and binge eating. I'm 28 now and still bingeing.

If your kid can't hear the word no at age 5, imagine when he's 35. The junk food, the babying, the lack of discipline; These parents are literally doing everything wrong. The 5 year old is huge because he's been given loads of calories. He's tall, but also overweight, that's easy to see.

These parents are so self centered and spoiled, putting their needs ahead of what the children will need to be successful adults. The food bribery thing was horrible, they would develop very unhealthy relationship with food and become obese or have eating disorders. How can any rational person think it is ok these days to use food to bribe behavior?

I saw the mom do that at least twice. I know she went back to her old ways as soon as the door closed behind Jo. Mom was never on board with any of the advice and changes Jo was giving her. I don't know why she even asked for Jo's help except an opportunity to be on tv.

Mom had her priorities with the food & snacks wrong. 5 year old eating constantly is bad for his health. Snack jars were quick thinking on Jo Jo’s part. She doesn’t play she gets to the point like an army Sargent. Mom finally got it together.

My mother comforted me with food, mainly sweets. Perhaps s.t. she bribed me too, I can't remember. That was back in the 50s and 60s when the harmful effects of sweets were less well known. However, I can bear witness that this sets you up for lifelong comfort eating. By God's grace I am only moderately overweight, not obese.
