I'm 56, and I'm just recently learning about some great bands that existed back when I could have easily found them at the record store, but was busy listening to more mainstream rock and hair metal (not that there was anything wrong with those bands, either). I wish I had known then about bands like The Hoodoo Gurus, The Dream Syndicate, The Feelies, and more. Unfortunately, we didn't have the internet to easily discover new music back then, just radio, TV and word of mouth.

@@lawrencehorner8418 60 here, I was the same until I accidently found the Ithaca College Radio station back in early 80s, the first song I heard on it was Lloyd Cole "Brand New Friend", the rest is history. Cheers

Underplayed and understated. This band was the epitome of cool, and this song contains lyrics that are so aloof and disaffected. Kind of a signpost for The Feelies.

What does it mean What can you do about it What can you say You don't even know about it Nobody talks Nobody listens Well look around Yeah look out your window They're having a ball Having a party Well come inside You can do what you like Well it's a nightmare It's all negative Nothing matters And what if it did You could lock your doors Close all your windows and Hide away It's only life

This is cool. Back in 1993 I lived in this flat and one of the guys there had this album and I always liked it but I forgot what it was called. For some reason I thought it was a Jayhawks album but then by chance I discovered this tonight on KZbin and clearly remember the album cover. The mystery is over.
