I'm on my third 575M manual. The first was a Grigio Alloy ex-press car; I was the second owner; I only sold it to buy a Pozzi Blu car with race seats, just mega, but I got horribly told off for speeding in it, so I sold it to keep the Majistrates happy. I now have a Grigio Titainam/Sabbia car. It's just perfect, but now moving on again. Find it on AT.

Thanks for a good and accurate review of a car that has always been near and dear. I’ve owned mine since 2018 and have enjoyed every minute in it. Robin Hastings assisted me with an OEM manual conversion and I have since added FHP and HGTC springs and Maranello Skunkworks steering ECU and rear sway bar. It’s a perfect big GT now, in my humble opinion.

I've owned a 575 F1 for over 12 years. I love the style and simplicity of the dashboard and driver aids. It now needs a big restoration, sticky buttons, shrinking dash, some paint and wheel plus a major, I expect the invoice will to be ring bound on collection.

Great video - really enjoyed that! This is my dream car and I will get one someday…hopefully soon. I currently have a 2006 GranSport which I think is an amazing car and also practical given the 4 seats (and my kids love riding in it). Would love to drive 575M back to back with the GranSport. I have absolutely no doubt the 575M is better than the GranSport in almost every way, but it’s a huge premium over a GranSport. Keep up the great work, James!

I wonder how much the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S' are doing in that steering feel. Back when they were new one of the reasons the 575 was felt to be not as good as the 550 was Ferrari OEM fitted Bridgestone tyres to the 575 and dropped the Michelins as an option. The reason; Bridgestone were providing tyres to Mr Schmacher's company ride and there was an F1 tyre war with Michelin.

I much prefer the 575m to the 550. It's supposed to be a GT, a Cruiser, so I prefer the automatic. If you want to have a driving experience just get a 360 with a manual.

Well done James on a great review of one of the all time great Ferraris. But then I’m biased, as I’ve had mine for 9 years now. And still get blown away by the looks every time I drive into the garage and see that front profile. I’ve recently upgrade the exhaust to one from Super Sprint. I feel it’s added up to another 50 geegees. Cold start sounds like a V12 should sound. And I had the ecus remapped to decrease the shift time, so it’s even more responsive now. One simple thing to Shante are the paddles. There are wonderful Carbon Fiber models available as after market items. They change the whole feel of the shift and make driving far more involving, especially on the twisties. Definitely worth it. As you said, they are not inexpensive to maintain. But my AD has a mechanic that is excellent on them, so mine runs beautifully. A manual one just sold in the US on bring a trailer for $241,000.

Thanks for this excellent review highlighting what a great car the 575m truly is. I second your observations about the driving experience (mine is a 2004, like the one you drove, albeit without the FHP). For those concerned about reliability, I have had mine for four years now and it has been much more reliable than my prior 360, which had comparable mileage. Other than routine annual maintenance (which includes the belt change every five years), on the 575m I have had one leaky power steering hose a couple of years ago and one pinhole leak in a coolant hose recently. That's not bad for a 20-year-old Ferrari V12 although, as you rightly point out, one has to be mentally and financially prepared for a big bill somewhere along the way. One difference that I'm not sure that you mentioned is that the 575m has a revised cooling system that is much less prone to overheating -- maybe not much of an issue in the UK but it could be one here in the States.

I've been agonizing over whether I should get one of these. They seem like an incredible value, but the paddle trans makes me pause. Most of the recent reviews I've seen all say that they F1 shifts great and that it's not worth the extra 100 grand for a manual version. Thank you!

I had a Ferrari 360 Modena with the F1 transmission and I really enjoyed it. It let me drive the car at the limit a lot easier than a gated shifter would do, and it provided all of that mechanical feedback that a manual transmission will give you, given it's a manual and not an automatic. You may miss the hand and foot motions from a more traditional gated shifter, but I can't imagine the massive price difference leads to an equivalent increase in experience. Overall, I found it the ideal blend of driveability for everyday needs with the feedback and raw driving feel of a typical manual transmission, and I really miss it.

@@xx-----------xx873 like any manual transmission, it's a matter of getting used to 1st gear. It was actually quite simple and easy to use once adjusted. I used my Ferrari as my daily for about 2 years and did several cross country road trips, putting about 12K miles on it. If you're only using it for 500 miles a year or so, you may never get fully comfortable with the system, but if you drive it regularly, it'll become familiar like a broken-in baseball glove. 1st gear was pretty easy from memory, primarily in traffic. For very low speed precision moves like nosing in to e.g., parking spaces, you'll need to figure out how to let the car go on its own and lightly feather it while keeping your foot ready for braking. Again, once you figure it out, it's not as easy as an automatic, but it's as simple as a manual, without the added difficulty of feathering the clutch with your other foot.

Yes, I’ve just done mine. They’re not as popular to convert due to the more involved hardware and the longer time it took to develop the parts, but it can be done now.

Sounds like your 550 steering is not right. I have a 550 and I have never felt the steering feeling too light. The weight of the engine on it allows it to turn in very nicely. Maybe your tires are in need of refreshing?

The biggest problem I have with the 575 isn't the 550, it's the 456. The 575 is arguably a better car than both, but the 456 is (in my opinion), a much better Ferrari.

I utterly adobe the 456. It’s the only modern big Ferrari I think I would buy . I think it looks so classy and understated in a colour like green, blue or black. Just a cool classy car 👍🏻 My ex-girlfriend has a 550 manual in black, that is a beautiful thing, but for me the 456 shades it.

@@leechampion6538 The 456 is understated and sleek and clean, and in some ways I can agree it is a more coherent design than the 550 ... (you can certainly see the heritage in the 550 though) But for me personally it ends up being a bit too generic "Pininfarina" (made me think of the Peugeot 406 coupe, which isn't necessarily a bad association!) so a bit too wedge shaped. And despite growing up in the 80's and 90's I'm not that fond of pop-up headlights - especially on a GT. Tastes differ ofcourse and I respect the choice :) (taking an extra look at the 456 now made me appreciate it more) I don't think the 550/575 is perfect either though. The proportions/shapes are a bit peculiar, and the overhangs might be a bit much... The thing I like the least is probably the way the fenders are shaped a bit like a 60's GT, angled "outwards" as they go over the wheels. This makes the wheels sit waaaay too deeply inset in the wheel arches. It ruins some of the muscularity of the car for me, and you can't just increase the track width either, because then the lower part of the tyres will stick out too much in the open air.

Would still prefer the 550 over this one, mostly coz of the headlights and the air intake on the bonnet that simply look wrong on the 575 but oh boy, I simply love Ferrari s Le Mans blue and I also have a certain appreciation for ppl going like "maybe the 550 looks better but I m getting a 575 coz it s superior". The truly weird thing for me personally is that the one Ferrari I deemed as the ugliest of all Ferraris is the one that truly tempts me nowadays...yeah the 612 and next up would be the other one I didn t like when it came out: the 599.... lol. Knowing that even between the two, the 599 is the much better car, I think I d still go for a very individually speced 612 if I won the lottery... otherwise I simply wouldn t and couldn t risk going for any glorious Ferrari V12.

456 Was already tested on this channel. The rear seats Are for skinny kids of average height up to 14 years or thin people 160cm max. Have you considered AM Rapid? Might be much more Practical....

My uncle has a 355 GTS and one of his friends has a 456...which used to be my dream car in the 90s...both still have them btw. I grew up in the sports car/ classic car realm and I d strongly caution you, the 456 is tricky and next level costly compared to even a 355, let alone something like an Aston Vantage. Whilst certain funny (often costly) stories of my uncle might be as entertaining as they make me pale(Cayman pleb here), there s been one really striking theme...the top trump story among all of the sports car owners in this circle has always been in the hands of his friend with the 456 in terms of "omg" and "how can this or that be that much more expensive". So yes, please proceed with care for your own sake...

Everyone knows that real cars have manual gearboxes, but... I'm terribly disappointed that no one makes cars with the good old-fashioned rubber bulb you had to squeeze to inject some petrol into the (rudimentary) carburettor. And when manufacturers stopped making proper brakes - you know, the wood blocks with leather wrapped around the outside - that was the end of real car driving. Worse yet was the awful invention of the starter motor; what was wrong with hand-cranking the engine into life? And as for climate control! Real cars didn't have any of than namby-pamby nonsense. This is why a 1905 car is worth millions whereas today's reliable comfortable safe junk is only worth a dozen or two thousand pounds. Modern rubbish. Besides, what was wrong with the horse and cart anyway?
