Nice review Cam, well done. I notice you never mentioned the Trek Madone in this review for comparison and would love to see you compare these bikes. I recently picked up mine for significantly cheaper than the BMC, and that included SRAM AXS groupset and project One Icon paint. One thing I would mention for your subscribers is the Bontrager Aeolus XXX6 handle incredibly well in cross winds and are well worth it.
@CamNicholls5 жыл бұрын
Good point you raise. My challenge with the Trek Madone was that I only had it for 1 day and it is the outdated model now. If I make comparisons I believe people what the most recent version. I would love to get my hands on Trek bikes, but I get nothing when I reach out to them. Hopefully as the channel grows things will change. Cam

That is interesting to hear people say the Timemachine Rd frameset is so compliant. It is the Roadmachine frameset that is supposed to be geared more for the general consumer that wants a really nice all-round road bike, however I hear a lot of reviewers saying that the Roadmachine is actually a harsh ride. I’m starting to wonder if the ride quality assessments are being affected by the reviewers initial expectation of what the frame will ride like before they ride it.

Hello! I’ve bought this bike recently (still waiting for a fit, then it’s onto the trainer until spring) and have a question about the seat tube bottle cage. I see you’ve got it in the lower position here, and at 3:22 I notice it overlaps the FD mount slightly. On my bike (ultegra di2 r8070 groupset) this overlap prevents the bottle cage from sitting flush against the frame. Did you find this to be the case with the bike in the video?
@CamNicholls4 жыл бұрын
Didn't notice this myself Christian. Only had the bike for a couple of weeks too.
@jochem19864 жыл бұрын
It's not designed to be in this lower position. The rings around the bottles should be in line with one another. It's designed to work together with the storage box, which is only left off if one enters a UCI race. Optionally, you can leave off the aero skirt around the rear bottle cage, and run it "naked", if you insist on running it that low. The reason why there's a lower boss in the seat tube, is for the box to attach to.
@OmarTan5 жыл бұрын
I find it quite interesting that bikes sold to consumers seemed to be specced or promoted with Sram wireless groupsets more than Shimano Di2s, I guess cause the Sram Red AXS is new? Or could it be something else? Currently, the Trek Emonda SLR Disc/Rim takes my heart, its lightweight frame allows lightweight wheels for those climbing days and as the races is not under UCI, you'll be able to race with a lower than 6.8kg (most people seems to be able to get it at 5.6kg easy) bike, and on those flat days, slap on some deep aero wheels and its weight will probably be at around 6.8kg.

Very informative video... glad I didn’t miss it... I’m also glad you touched on the potential post ride soreness or relative absence of it on the BMC.... I love the clean lines... the only thing that unsettles me is that price point... but such is the realm of aero bikes in that category, ie Venge, Cervelo S5 (Dura Ace Di2), Cannondale System Six, etc... that’s a lot of coinage for a non crit racer, with no sponsorship... lol

I kind of like the look of this bike, but it all starts with the price tag which leaves me wondering what makes this bike so much better than e.g an Canyon Aeroad... The price of this bike's frameset would be somewhat close to the price of an fully build Aeroad with DI2...
@craigwilson1185 жыл бұрын
The handling is about the only significant difference (and perhaps comfort). The Aeroad is very twitchy even with the fork in the higher trail position, it's a pure race machine. I guess the BMC is an option for people considering S5, S-works, SystemSix etc. but the Aeroad still holds up!

I would love to see you compare this to a budget aero bike eg. Merida Reacto Disc (2019 model with Shimano 105 currently on sale here in Australia for only $2399). I think their wholesaler/distributor might be based in Brisbane too. I would be curious to know if you could detect much of a difference. The reacto claims to be one of the most aero frames and cycling weekly's velodrome testing showered it was right up there at the top. Funnily enough there's a sale on at Evans in the UK. The BMC One TimeMachine has been reduced to 7k and the one Cam is showing here is reduced to 6k. Personally I'm not getting one as I recently bought a Venge Pro 2019, which I'm pretty happy with (but needs some di2 adjustment), also in a UK Sale. Seems you get great bike reductions in Sales here in the UK, I mean the BMC One was on Sale for 11k and has been massively reduced. Cam, any chance you can do an Aero Bike countdown of what you've reviewed e.g. BMC/Venge/Cervelo S5 etc. and what your order of preference and 'number one' actually is ? Very interesting. I see you mentioned the BMC's longer wheelbase but I've not had any aches on the Venge so far (mind you, not ridden it for more than 90 minutes yet). What I will say is that the narrow aero bars (in terms of the vertical space to the drops) do sometimes bang your wrists, I think I will have to adapt my style a little when on the drops, I've got pretty slender wrists though ... I also saw this feedback online somewhere re the Venge. All Good thanks for the video Cam.

@waynosfotos5 жыл бұрын
Good point, many manufacturers licence open moulds by OEM chinese manufacturers to save the very expensive mould construction costs, I also question why so many 2018-2019 bikes look so similar?
@julmeissonnier5 жыл бұрын
@@waynosfotos Manufacturers can still have a specific composite lay-up in the same mold, which is essentially a different frame but they are really becoming very similar. I guess it is a 1, 2, 3 punch: 1. The dictates from UCI about what shapes are and are not allowed 2. The dictates of the wind tunnel about aerodynamics and 3. The economic pressures and the cost of a full series of mold size (4 to 6 sizes at least) which is an investment of several $100,000's for companies that are quite small and have to change model frequently to remain in the game... At the end you can questions how long many of these high-end (supposedly) western brands are going to be able to charge 5 to 10 times the price of the frames you can buy directly from the Chinese factories, especially when the leading Chinese manufacturers are getting into the game of sponsoring racing teams to establish their own brands, as Giant and Merida did before...

What do you think about this bike's abilities to climb ? Nowadays it seems that aero bikes get more versatile and are not so bad at climbing anymore.
@CamNicholls5 жыл бұрын
I'd say overall, reasonable. In comparison to an all round race bike it's not great, because it's on the heavier side and the stiffness for out of the saddle acceleration isn't elite. However, for an aero bike it's great, because of the comfort factor, particularly at lower speeds, such as when you are climbing.

@@CamNicholls thanks for the quick response, is it due to the longer wheelbase on the BMC?

Great review mate. Stunning bike, a little out of my price range though😁. It’s a cool time to be a rider - aesthetic design and tech hardware together.

Hey Cam, hope you’re keeping well mate. Enjoying the recent uploads as always 👍🏼 After your opinion as I know you’ve ridden all 3..... which did you prefer out of the S5, Venge and BMC TMR? Looking to get one of the above, but not able to test them all. All great looking bikes, so a tricky decision! Cheers 👍🏼

Venge was my favourite but TIMEMACHINE was incredibly comfortable for a fast aero road bike.

BMC should do a paint collaboration with Ferrari to make it official. But should that happen, Colnago and De Rosa will get pissed.

Gladiators Cycling Club GHANA I think it was a bit click baity to Associate this bike with Ferrari. It is not Italian, and BMC as I am aware have never been associated with Ferrari.

Last edition of TmrO edition had the cheapest model at 2500 usd. 7500 is ridiculous for the newer cheapest model
