this bike is a dream to work on. you can change the stem to a 2 cm longer one without having to put longer brakehouses. not possible on the venge. even if the bar looks aero it's a round oversized clamp so you can mount any other handlebar. not possible on the venge a lot of people adjust theyr saddlehight on the go and can't reach this screw with a multitool? this just isn't a real world issue and is way better there than on the back where all the dirt and grid sprays on. the look is arguable and the price is high but this bike has so much love for the small details that realy matters. btw if you are are racing on the level where you throw away bottles to save weigh you probably will use your climbing bike for those races. give this bike the kudos that it deserves!!!
@CycoWarriorx6 жыл бұрын
Where the bike industry has lost their marbles, IMO, is pricing. After components, the valuation of these bikes do not equate into a sustainable model. Basically all bikes require one thing - someone to ride it. Hence the bike can only be so light and it can only be so aero (until a person sits on it). The real question to me is where is the bike industry headed. It can’t be just lighter and more claims of aero bike performance to justify pricing. Embedding more tech, probably is the better arc, because justification for BMC’s pricing is pretty shallow considering it doesn’t come with aero bottles. 😏

This review makes several claims that are plain incorrect: 1. The bike comes with 2 Elite Water Bottles yes - But you can use any bottle you like - they all fit no different than a normal bottle cage. In fact the design allows for a very positive entry/exit engagement when you are out on the road. Also the aero cage assembly can be removed if you prefer a standard bottle cage mount. 2. The handlebars and stem turn for shipping just like any other set of bars.- no issue with travel. I use the EVOC travel bag (soft version). 3. Seat post clamp works great zero slippage. 4. The design is understated and functional - no loud decals - everything just works. 5. No bike bag hanging off the back seat... I have this bike custom version in white - so far I love it. In future please separate facts and fiction...

somebody tell BMC to change their name scheme, it's mental... they can't have numbered versions of numbered variants of each of their bikes.all of'em using the same 3 numbers. I'm surpised it dosen't confuse employees themself 😅
I'd forgo the aero advantage to at least have equal rim heights front and back. this looks silly with the deeper front and shallower rear.

It's slightly less expensive than the Venge, but there are not inexpensive models like the Trek Madone (has mechanical options). The Ultegra Di2 version is pretty heinously expensive, but it does come with proper tires, deep carbon rims, aero cockpit (very expensive when bough aftermarket), and Di2. Its not necessarily overpriced, but it is a bit *excessive* for any bicycle to cost so much.

We have already seen stem and seatpost integration go to the moon and back, so would happen to the bottle cages: back to oval tube shapes, more options on cage mounting. Future is modular, definetely for serial and mass production.

I think the future for integration is modular geometry. We will see a continued trend in built in features to adjust the characteristics of the ride. Trek has it with the adjustable iso-speed system and sliding rear axle on the Crocket. Some forks have the ability to swap a plug adjust the trail. Bikes are being designed to accept 700c or 650b wheels. We will eventually see a bike with so much built in features that you could tune the geometry for the weekend crit or the week long bike packing.

Impressive piece of equipment, obviously not for the average cyclist. I believe we need products like this, so bike designers can keep the good and ditch the not so good. Eventually the good (and pretty) tech rolls down to the bikes most of us love to ride... ones that don't cost €12,000.
@ryu22416 жыл бұрын
Joe, love the bike but, I agree, anything too contrived looks great now - dated later. Manufacturers forcing proprietary water bottle and cage integration is a faff: would hate to crack a cage or lose a bottle. I would probably need just one bottle for my one hour sprint rides after work. Whatever happened to economies of scale. Carbon bikes have been on the market for years; bring the price down!

On the topic of vanity and bike style... You are right that in a few years it could look dated with new trends and styles coming to market. But I think that is true of almost bikes. On the flip side of that, if you take a classic alloy frame (for the sake of example lets say a Moots) with traditional tubes and a current build specs, it will look on point today, or in 10 years with newest gen components. There are styles that can be timeless, and others (like this) that won't be...
