This reminds me of the air powered sanders we used while I was in the Navy and worked in the Corrosion Control shop (basically aircraft paint/body)

Hi Sheen, in the first minute, you made a mistake by explaining the two settings of the Rotex. The name Rotex comes from ROTieren, meaning ROTate and EXcenter, meaning ... EXcenter. So as you know, the Rotate mode is for heavy sanding, the Excenter mode for normal and finishing sanding. Also when polishing withh polishing pads, you have to use the Rotate mode. FYI, I bought my first Rotex 150 in 1993 and I am still using it. It's one of the best Festool machines I ever owned.

One professional’s opinion stated that this is the one sander he would choose as the lone sander in a hardwood floor refinishing project. He was not recommending it, but was stating that this tool was up to the task , if the user was also up to the task. The extra time and effort notwithstanding, do you think the rotex could handle the sanding of a hardwood floor say 20’ x 16’ ?

That sounds painful. The answer is yes for sure. It would be one heck of a hand numbing and backbreaking project and also expensive- you'd probably go through a few boxes of paper for that much sanding. Personally I'd rent a floor sander, since it's purpose built for that. However, I'm guessing the question is coming from the standpoint of, "if I get the tool for general woodworking, can it double as a floor sander." In which case, yes, it's probably your best general purpose sander compared to anything else on the market.

Do you consider this sander to be the best all around for material removal/finishing? There are many Festool Sanders to choose from and I am only interested in getting one right now to do multiple jobs.

I already own a Makita GV500o..you think that with a dust cover and HEPA would be as good or almost to the Festool 115? I would like to save some money if i could. Lead paint project on my house.

Thanks for the review. Considering you we're using the sander in Rotex mode for 20 minutes did you notice any forearm fatigue? It seems like since this mode can be really aggressive that it can take a toll on your forearm. Thanks for your input.
@MachinesMore11 жыл бұрын
Clay, Sure thing. Nope, no fatigue at all, nothing more than one would experience from handling a random orbital sander. That's the incredible part of the sander- it's really not hard or taxing to handle in Rotex mode. From the get go, the sander has a soft start, and from then on continues to moves very smoothly, yet it sands like a wild beast. It's really something you have to try. There is some increased vibration, so if you are sensitive you might want to take a break every 20 minutes or so in order to give you fingers some rest, otherwise they might start to tingle.

estoy buscando una maquina similar y me he inclinado por la festo o la boch pero que sea de 150 mm ¿sabrias donde la puedo encontra a buen precio a pesar de que sea de segunda mano?

hello, I am a kitchen cabinet refinisher. Which sander would you recommend for me?
@MachinesMore9 жыл бұрын
Hi Jose, I would get a RO150 for raised panels, end panels, tabletops or wood countertops. Then a RO90 for face frames, rail and stile doors, and drawer fronts.

Nice review. Have you found the need to break in the RO150 or any of your other festool sanders?
@MachinesMore11 жыл бұрын
Matt, when I received the RO150, it was a tester, so I didn't get a chance to use it fresh out of the box. Based on user feedback, there is some merit to breaking the sanders. I noticed on my RO90 that it had slightly less vibration after using it on two projects. It wasn't yielding poor results at the beginning though, it just worked smoother afterwards.

The Sepia filter on your video's is distracting from trying to really see what you want the viewer to see. Looking at your cutting board, it would more impressive if you could see the colors of the wood.
