In case people didnt realize it: The sequence where we see venat walking at the end and getting hit more and more, those are representing the calamities and the subsequent rejoinings. Remember, with every calamity, haedalyn grew weaker and weaker. EDIT: see blitzwaffens reply for another very good possible explanation for what it represents.
@TheSilverwing9993 жыл бұрын
This is not at all what I got from the scene and I think my version is loads better than that. The scene is basically hydaelyn/venat walking through the beginning of all the worlds she has created and looking down on all the plague, and sorrow and suffering that she herself has created and being basically powerless to help mankind because they have to find their own way and answer the question Hermes posited. She gets darker and darker through that scene because the burden is weighing on her extremely heavily, and at this point she is the only one who knows what happened (we weren't born yet). Imagine carrying so much hope on your shoulders but being alone without friends to help carry that burden, but still knowing that you did the right thing. That if you hadn't done it the world would be doomed. At the end when she looks up through all the tar with her blue eyes it represents her resolve to see this through. Regardless of how much she is hurting inside for doing this to everyone. Basically I dont think it was specifically the calamities that hit her. It was just the horror of it all slowly getting to her. But she never relented. She kept walking on.
@chaous20003 жыл бұрын
@@TheSilverwing999 it was 100% the calamities that physically hit her, the visual tells are all there. You can also see her get more and more mentally fatigued, which can easily be attributed to what you said. Her seeing what she had done, the worlds of problems, and the ultimate destruction of each with a new rejoining.
@Blitzwaffen3 жыл бұрын
@@chaous2000 She doesn't get hit nearly enough times for all the calamities. It lines upore that the hots she takes are moments when she shields us. Remember every time her blessing protected us she grew weaker after every hit. It's why Midgardsormer scolded us for relying so heavily on the blessing. And it is also why she is walking along with us for the scene where we approach Emet on the first. She was with us every step of the journey.

I really wish that rather than everyone just saying "Calm down!" one of the Scions would have rushed the old woman, BACKHANDED her, then said VERY CLEARLY "The monster transformation is caused by literally giving yourself the worst kind of panic attack! Believe in whatever you must to keep yourself from fearing, or ask one of us to knock you out and take you to safety." seriously cause nobody stepped in as she started getting more hysterical, she transformed and set everyone else off...freakin idiot ball being held by everyone in the know...
@HintedImage3 жыл бұрын
@@Xenmaru00 Isn't that the purpose of Meteion's despair effect? She echoes the accumulated negatives of the ruined worlds towards Etheriys, causing its life to taint and ruin itself. Hitting grandma would've caused just as much (if not more) panic out of her as trying to calm her. Bonk her out, and it'll just occur again when she wakes. At that point, it's that person against the burdens of despair, and there is very little that could be done by an outside source. If she can't find the strength to continue, then that's that.
@Xenmaru003 жыл бұрын
@@HintedImage Well that's the thing, the despair effect requires conscious connection for it to activate. if you're unconscious, or emotionally numbed out, it cant take hold. Something like absolute shock, a temporary inability to comprehend the current situation in front of you, leading to a total but temporary paralysis of conscious function, effectively, a strong enough confusion effect, can delay the transformation. its the acknowledgement and unconscious embracing of the absolute, all-encompassing despair that triggers the transformation, the _belief_ that there is no hope, no possibility of escape/survival/victory, that causes the dynamis to react and convert the Sundered into the Terminus Beasts. Knocking someone out before the transformation halts their activation of the dynamis _in that specific case_ only. They are not conscious to trigger the reaction, thus no transformation. as well, as i stated before, being BLANK-shocked, will also delay the reaction, as their minds are "rebooting" and thus not calling out to the dynamis. If someone, preferably Ahewan, had pimp-slapped her out of nowhere, she'd have been shocked enough for them to try to verbally override her fears the same way that Graha later was able to for the man who's son just got turned and then squished. Allaying her fears was impossible at that point, but it wouldnt have been impossible to either knock her out as she got worse, or shock her out of it and get her to push back against the gnawing uncertainty and fear. Knocking her out and then immediately giving a brief explanation to the surrounding people that _giving up on all hope_ is what causes the transformation, would have yes, made everyone tense, but at least planted the seed that they could understand what forces them to mutate. Following up with "anyone who does not believe they can remain calm, step forward, and with no judgment, we will gladly cast a sleeping spell on you for your and everyone's safety". Anyone can succumb to the transformation, but their emotions have to be overflowing with hoplessness-laden fear and despair. the deeper and stronger and _more unchecked_ the feelings are, the more powerful a beast they turn into. the cascade effect is from the fear-tainted-shock of seeing someone just rapidly mutate like that, and losing control of one's senses. but one has to be _conscious_ to transform. the second Granny started getting hysterical, Y'shtola should have slung a sleep spell at her, knocking her out, and stopping the transformation. A quick explanation after that, and the chaos would have been managed much sooner than what actually happened. It's one of those moments where everyone just held the idiot ball and nobody was prepared for decisive action even though they knew the fastest way to stop someone from succumbing is to knock them out or worse, kill them. But even killing them might not work cause the last-second acknowledgement before death might transform them and that _might_ have some kind of regenerative property to it. so it's safer to see someone getting hysterical, and knock them the hell out before they turn.

It’s good to know Venat’s voice actresses sounds great in English and Japanese. I’d say her and the twins sound the best this expansion and I know you’ll be playing it or editing it when you come to that section later with the twins but you’ll know what I’m talking about bc it’s impactful as hell

I loved the detail at the end of Elpis, when Venat was walking through time, each time she was damaged more and more was because of each rejoining damaging her and taking her power away. Im so glad i didnt join the "Hydaelyn is evil" train. In the end Venat was only left with terrible options and she did what others would be too scared to do, it must be a weight even worse than Emets to carry. The entire Elpis arc was incredible.
@qaztim113 жыл бұрын
She was in a shit situation, with only shit options. Like she says, what she did was not heroic or kind, but it was necessary.
@13thdarkness3 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I didn't think of that relating to the rejoinings for whatever reason. I interpreted it as her sharing in the suffering of mankind that she caused as she lived on to look after them in atonement. That she wouldn't rest until she saw to mankind being able to sustain their existence beyond the final days. I suppose showing Venat walking through time being weakened by the rejoinings mirrors that in a way, considering how many millions perished because of them. Perhaps the scene personified both her sharing in the torment she gifted mankind and the literal nature of her growing weaker as a way of saying she isn't omnipotent and experiences pain and suffering the same as anyone else. That could also be a reason, among others, for the parallel between her and the WoL facing Emet.

What I love about the time travel segment this game was that it didn't change the past or future, you're already living the timeline where you have and will travel back.
@13thdarkness3 жыл бұрын
Also going into that chapter we were of the mind that the past can be changed, which made it even better. Despite the allusions to the eventuality we got, it still was unprecedented given the nature of time travel in the established narrative. All that's to say they were able to subvert expectations without doing anything and retcon how time travel works while still having it make sense in the most interesting way possible. If this isn't incredible narrative work I'm not sure what is!

Hearing the Japanese voice acting is always so neat, since I play with the EN voices on. There’s *so many* famous Japanese VAs in the cast, I can’t believe it. Maybe someday a JP voiceover NG+ is in my future.
@RioFordays3 жыл бұрын
This is a Japanese game, the dialog was written in Japanese first and foremost. The English dub, while of superior quality than the usual, is still a localization. Koji is doing an amazing work and I have nothing but respect for him. However, it also sometimes loses a lot of finer details from the Japanese script. For instance, the scene in Elpis when Venat is asking you to tell her about your adventures on that balcony, in JP she reacts by saying it must have been so nice being able to hear, feel and think about all of that. That very specific choice of words on her part was non existent in the English script, which is a shame. And that's only one example. Do yourself a favor. Replay the whole story in JP.

@13thdarkness3 жыл бұрын
It was actually several things from what I can tell. It could definitely be the power of hers that we use being expended. It can also be the rejoinings weakening her power as a whole. My own interpretation is that she's bearing the burden of walking alongside mankind to ensure they live on, as both she and they are fated to suffer for the sake of finding joy. It's a parallel too, one concerning her acting as light within darkness, or hope within despair, since she was covered in literal darkness. Her walk mirroring the WoL's walk toward Emet also shows that she's not only by our side, as in mankind's side suffering as we do, but that her purpose in continuing to exist is to help us find our own purpose. She isn't omnipotent and above burden, bearing it is literally who she is. The same as the WoL, represented too in how we both once held the seat of Azem, and that we both walk unflinching amidst despair toward either the end or our end, whichever comes first.

Wow Matsya's voice is completely different in JP. ngl I like the English one better but either way, man that scene where he's running away with the baby was absolutely heart wrenching. With all the death and despair throughout that whole part of the story, having him and the baby also succumb would've been the logical conclusion. Definitely glad that didn't happen.
@azkon79753 жыл бұрын
That part where he's reciting the prayer against despair even as he threatens to turn really got to me. Our Scion cast might be okay (they've more than forged themselves in the fires of the previous expansions) but someone on the ground like Matsuya was *not* fine. They do not have the experiences to guard against despair. But even so, our elephant boi is doing the best he can. I like to believe that reciting the prayer and doing his best delayed his transformation just long enough for a miracle to happen and Estinien appears.

Watching this made me realize that I wouldn't be playing FF14 if I had to use the Japanese VA's. Like, who's bright idea was it to have Matsaya sound like he's 11? @@AStrangeWindmill I really preferred the JP VAs as they sold the characters way better in my view. My impression of Matsaya using thr JP voice line supposed to be a kid fisher that is learning how to sell stuff. I love how JP Venat sold the Answers sequence too, especially the delivery of the last line. The EN Venat went too flat on the 'light everlasting'. But which is better is subjective.
