I just met Maurice Newton today at a local estate sale. He was humming John Denver's Country Roads in the garage when I walked out there and we got to chatting. He's a character and is very proud to share his music. He made several new fans and he does have a beautiful voice.

According to "Marv Goldberg's R&B Notebook" it was Maurice Newton. His inspired vocal style reminds me of Eugene Mumford (Billy Ward's Domino's) & Tony Williams (The Platters)... all still thrilling a half century down the road. Later Fidelitys cuts featured Emmett Smith's higher range, more in the vein of Clyde McPhatter & Dee Clark.

Hadn't thought of The Joker in years! Spun it just now - aural joy. Thanks for the reminder. My guess is Myles didn't collaborate with the Fidelitys, since he recorded on Ember, Dot & King while their cuts were on Baton & Sir. On the other hand, Wikipedia says he wrote for & co-wrote with many '50s artists, so who knows for sure?
