And sure, there was never a famine as there were lashing of food all over Ireland! Grain, butter, beef, vegetables, mutton, all exported for landlord gain! The potato was the only crop that failed. An Irishman in the 1840’s consumed 10 pounds of potatoes a day on average. Infrequently accompanied by buttermilk. Sure it was not famine, it was genocide

I was on the ground crew for the quarter final between Ireland and NZ at RWC2019 in Japan and, while the result (an overwhelming victory to the All Blacks) made me happy, the greatest impression from this match was the impassioned singing by the huge contingent of Irish fans singing "The Fields of Athenry" to drown out the ABs' haka totally, There must have been half the 50,000 crowd singing and it was spine-tingling, goose bump-inducing, awe-inspiring. Thank you to all the Irish fans present that day for giving this Kiwi a feel of what watching a test at Lansdowne Road must be like.
