My personal read of the situation though is that - if the JW never came knocking on his door Terada would have done his job (at least to the best of his ability), since he seems to try to "loyal" to Kazama AND the JW which is why he compromises with 2 unarmed bombs equivalent to the 2 lives spared by Kazama. Caught between loyalties this was the best compromise he could do.

To be fair Kazama trusted him and Kiryu trusted Kazama and he would see no reason to doubt Kazama (which on hindsight terrible idea)

I always assumed that Sagawa had to take responsibility, because it was his and Shimano’s failed project to help Omi set their foot in Kamurocho. The plan was for Shimano to acquire the Empty Lot, then sell it to Omi and have them eventually take over Kamurocho (kinda like what Arakawa did in Y7). Shimano would’ve become an Omi officer, and Sagawa could’ve been promoted for his contributions. But the plan got derailed, Shimano’s treacherous intent was exposed and he was given a choice to either kill himself or cut all ties with Omi, pretending that it was never his plan to help them take over Kamurocho. Obviously he chose to back off and killed an Omi executive who visited for the negotiations. Now imagine this from the Omi’s perspective. You were getting ready to expand on Tokyo, being promised the one patch of land that could screw the Dojima family and subsequently the entire Tojo clan. But instead Shimano kills your negotiator and pretends he was never in on that plan to begin with. You can’t punish him for that, he’s not your subordinate. But Sagawa is. He was essentially a middleman between Omi and Shimano. So naturally Sagawa is the one who’s next in line to take responsibility for this train wreck of a plan. And it most likely has nothing to do with them being sworn brothers (though that was probably what kickstarted their whole partnership in this scheme in the first place). As you can remember, there were other instances when sworn brothers were members of different organizations in the series. In Yakuza 5 there were Aoyama (Tojo clan) and Watase (Omi alliance), in 6 there were Someya (Tojo clan) and Koshimizu (Yomei alliance). Both of their brother oaths were pretty much public knowledge among the yakuza, the latter was even kinda promoted as a sign of strengthening the relationship between Tojo and Yomei

I’d love a lore video about Tanimura and what could’ve happened, if we recall 4, 5, and 6, he had Little Asia, but by 6 it was completely changed, and I’d assume all the people who lived there like Nair were kicked out or forced to move, and I think this would include Tanimura. In Yakuza 5 in the Amon substory he never answered Akiyama’s call, assuming its because of the Amon Clan. In 8 he’s mentioned in the bucket list and Kiryu says how he wants a good reason to reach out, and I really hope he will return, he’s such a good character and I could see him being in Judgment 3.. if that were to ever happen.

Re: other lore videos, honestly, it’d be neat to see you do full summaries of each game’s story. When I first got into the series, I was _very_ overwhelmed and wanted to watch summaries of the previous games so I could catch up, but there weren’t any solid ones. Obviously in an ideal world, everyone has the time to play every game (and I eventually did anyway), but having a good resource for catching up definitely makes a series a lot less daunting for newcomers, and I feel like you’d be good at providing that.

My understanding with the whole sworn brothers thing is that if its between different organisations like Shimano and Sagawa, it's usually less them being fond of each other and being like brothers as we see with Kiryu and Nishiki/Majima and Saejima, and more a political move to keep each other in check, essentially putting a high ranking member of the organisation and tying them to your own, because I'm pretty sure something similar happened to bring an end to the Ueno-Seiwa conflict (admittedly been a while since I played through 4, I could be wrong)

I think an interesting video would be delving into RGGO Lore, AKA the small tidbits you get to see of certain characters and their interactions with others, like Tanimura and Nishiki or the way that Mine and Daigo's relationship gets expanded on. Basically covering a bunch of different characters in one video through RGGO. Then again, you could always just include the small RGGO lore in these character-specific lore videos you do. I'd also love to see a Judgment RGG Lore video, perhaps a more in-depth dive into Higashi (he's my fave) and his character development and the way he interacts with others etc. I know you've done a video on him a few years ago but since then LJ and KF have come out. Regardless, I'd love a lore video on the Judgment series in general since I know you'll cook.

Majima is so awesome. I hope after Pirate Yakuza we get him as a major character in 9 while they give Kiryu a much needed rest. Terada's flaw is that he's got too many plot twists written about him, to the point that his character becomes unbelievable. I think if they left it at the Korean mafia flashback with Kazama, he'd be all right. But all of the twists he's involved in at the end of 2 make his character seem really convoluted without it feeling smart. But at least he serves as a good foil to Majima in the Majima Saga thing in Kiwami 2.

I´m a little sad you didn´t go deeper into his participation during the 10 years Kiryu spent in the joint. They mention Nishiki climb up the ranks by "betraying" the Tojo and working with Terada, but if Terada was always a buddy of Kazama during this, was all of that Kazama´s plan? Also Nishiki is the one starting the meeting where he tell the others that the money was stolen, saying his source is Terada which, again, could be a lie and it was actually Jingu, or again, some kind of plan by Kazama? Also a nice detail to debate is the final part of the story he brings Omi´s men to help Kiryu but then he gets betrayed because the Omi chairman is working with Jingu, now retrospectively this could be a lie to make Kiryu trust him, after all in Kiwami 2 the chairman of the Omi is quite reasonable.

Based on the Yakuza movies I've seen, some of which are based on real-world accounts, it doesn't really seem like you can't be sworn brothers with people outside of your organization, so I think Sawada was probably killed because he vouched for a guy who killed a high-ranking Omi member rather than for being sworn brothers with Shimano at all. But obviously the games don't always reflect reality either so who can say what their intentions were with that scene.

When Kiryu and Terada met on the boat in Y1, did they both recognize each other? Did they know they met once 25 years ago? Maybe only on or none of them? The reason I'm wondering this, is that at the End of Y2 Kiryu talks about how they met, but I don't get why he never brought that up before with all the jingweon stuff going on trough out the whole story. If Kiryu was decided to be yhe Too chairman,will it be better ? Tojo lack of leadership despite Daigo best efforts, cause imbalance of power in the underworld. Omi more solid eventually we see Tojo perished first then Omi under extraordinary circumstances also disbanded. I have crazy idea what if Kiryu stay as chairman. Use Y2 to introduce Daigo , make him new playable character. Give Daigo chance to shine, maybe in Y3 he can be more acceptable in the eyes of Yakuza's fans.

I have no clue wtf the writers were thinking when they wrote Terada's whole character arc. Looking back it's baffling. Why would Kiryu make Terada chairman? Why not Kashiwagi? People say Kiryu chose Terada because Kazama trusted him, but Kazama trusted Kashiwagi for at least 20 years and everybody's favorite cold noodle enthusiast was actually a member of the Tojo Clan. Why fake an assassination on yourself to get revenge on the Tojo Clan? Certainly it would be easier as chairman to get that revenge, maybe get a bunch of Jingweon assassins into Tojo HQ during a meeting of all the families and slaughter them. Or he could have not shown up to such a meeting and just blown the place to smithereens with hidden bombs, considering bombing a building is a big plot element of the game.
