All of the women in the movie were models which modeled with Mila Jovovich, she basically asked all of her friends to do the movie with her and they jumped for joy to be in a movie. Notice all the women are absolutely beautiful!

Unless she's ever in a truly good movie besides The Fifth Element, I'll always think of her as Leelu. Most of the movies Milla has starred in weren't great and I don't blame her for that. It's just unfortunate. I guess some people must have liked the Resident Evil movies. I could almost see the vision of how they might start getting good after the first one, but then they just got weird.

The first part of the aria in The Fifth Element is "Il dolce suono" ("The Sweet Sound"). It is based on the aria from Act III, scene 2 of Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor.

So, Emma, if you ever get the chance, go see the opera Lucia di Lammermoor, which is where the Diva's aria is from. Specifically, the scene is a new bride's wedding night. That's all I'll say because of spoilers. I saw it in New York at The Met.

It's a love mystery about Ludwig van Beethoven. The movie also has Isabella Rossellini, who is Ingrid Bergman's daughter (Casablanca) and whose accent sounds like yours.

This is a great movie. Not only is the movie itself unique, but it has one of the most unique soundtracks ever heard. I love the music as much as the movie. The only other movie I can think of that pulls this off is Blade Runner. FYI: I was unsubscribed from your channel involuntarily. I knew you'd like this movie, Emma. I regret not seeing this at the theater. At the time, I underestimated how good it is. I rented the DVD a year later and it blew me away. The director was Luc Besson and another of his science fiction movies you might like is called LUCY, starring Scarlett Johansson.

Interesting tidbit: Luc Besson, who did this movie, got married to the lady who played the Diva when she was 16, (which inspired the movie Leon, the Professional). They divorced when he got involved with Mila Jovovich while filming The Fifth Element and they got married soon after.

This is my favorite movie of all time. I was in the US military in South Korea when this movie came out. The military assignment was a really bad assignment and a rough time. This movie came out and I waited in line at the military base theater for an hour to get in when it was about 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Was totally amazed by the colors, story so on. I went off the military base the next day to a movie shop (they were VHS tape shops back then). They had a mural of the movie which was 4 foot by 6 foot. The mural was the part of the movie where Leeloo jumps off the building. I had a few yen in my pocket (didn't know how much I had; it was like 100 US dollars in coins in yen). I grabbed a handful of yen out of my pocket and pit it on the counter and pointed at the mural wanting to buy it. The guy behind the counter got really big eyes and walked over to the mural, took it down, folded it up perfectly, put it next to the pile of yen on the counter and pushed both the mural and yen back to me smiling and nodded his head in courtesy. My eyes got huge, and I pushed the yen back to him and he pushed it back to me, so I put the money back in my pocket and graciously accepted the folded mural. This was in 1997, that mural is on the wall in my house right now. A wonderful memory of my life that brought laughter, color and happiness in a bad time. Things are much better now, a very fond memory for me during a hard time in life but more importantly a complete joy watching your reaction which to this day is still my reaction to this movie. Thanks for sharing!

Funny thing is he was nominated for both best and worst supporting actor in various awards. So was Milla Jovovich and director Luc Besson. Apparently, people either loved or hated this movie. Me, I think it is an amazing piece of imagination and just plain fun.

One of my favorite movies . Had my choice of seats in the theater when I saw it the first time , but now have it on disk , and enjoy it at my leasure . The soundtrack is one of my favorite features , but story and casting are in a battle for second place .

The language Leeloo speaks was written by the director, they could actually hold conversations with it. She really whacked her head in the reactor chamber. The diva is the director's future ex wife, Milla is his future wife. The armor worn by the aliens is called an encounter suit. The more lights and decorations the higher their rank. Basketball players were hired to wear it. Yes, I've watched this a few (bunch) of times.

This is the only movie that I saw more than once in the theaters. Saw it 3 times. It's quirky, goofy, funny, with stunning visuals, and great action. Though, seeing the stunning Milla in it may have something to do with that too. Especially for a teenage boy.

The *feeling* of this film, is an incredible amount of energy. The large majority of it is fast-paced (as it should be), but it has appropriate ‘slow’ moments, so that we (the audience) doesn’t get tired. •••• If there could be ANY valid example of a one-shot film that’s thought of as a ‘competitor’ to Star Wars, it would have to be this film: Both are mixtures of science fiction and fantasy; both have a whole set of ICONIC characters that no one will forget; both universes have incredible world-building, including fantastic gadgets, aliens and costumes; both have extremely memorable music. This film came out in 1997 - two years before the first film of the Star Wars prequel trilogy (The Phantom Menace). I’d like to think that George Lucas enjoyed this film, and that it influenced him in some ways (The huge, infinitely complex futuristic New York City environment, reads like it could have influenced the feel of Coruscant, the capital of the Republic, in the Prequel Trilogy.) Note that there are “tips-of-the-hat” to Star Wars in this film: Major Iceborg’s hair is a deliberate homage to the Princess Leia ‘space buns’ in the first Star Wars film. •••• Two film recommendations: - While the pre-production of ‘The Fifth Element’ was being assembled, Luc Besson wrote and directed another extraordinary film: “Leon: The Professional” which, like ‘The Fifth Element’ co-stars Gary Oldman as the major villain. It also stars a very young Natalie Portman in her first film role. The story is inspired by one of the “bit” characters that are shown to audiences in Besson’s previous film: “La Femme Nikita.” - “His Girl Friday” from 1940, is the only film I can possibly think of, that rivals “The Fifth Element” for its insanely fast pace. But, where “The Fifth Element” relies in equal parts of writing, directing, music, costuming and set design to WOW the audience, “His Girl Friday” was more limited in what it could do: It had to ‘channel’ everything into the writing, directing and acting. (It succeeded - it’s a timeless classic, as well as perhaps the film with the most sustained fast-paced dialogue in film history. And, I think you’ll love Rosalind Russell as Hildy Johnson, the female lead.)

I'm always fascinated by people's "choice" to either trust the researcher or the priest. And, how the researcher group changes their mind. Beautiful writing, casting, and directing on that scene - major social issues inter-playing together, they knew their audience well and so many stepped right into it. It's also amazing to see how many people don't know about the Nazi's spread into Africa/ME and why the stones would have been in danger.

I wondered how you would feel about this movie when you got around to watching it. Now I know. That piece of music you anticipated to hear and loved was perfect but it was a recording done with the directors wife who played the Deva. Having said that, don't sell your own singing voice short because that's one of your greatest talents/strengths which I like about you. When you have no singing voice such as I, you can appreciate what a well trained singing voice can sound like.
